Children of the Gods (A Chosen Novel) by Monica Millard

I would like to thank the author Monica Millard for posting her book Children of the Gods (A Chosen Novel) in the group The Nexus in the discussion topic Authors Requesting Reviews on Goodreads for review and allowing me to read and review it.

Reka a seventeen year old girl lived inside the City of the Gods. Everyone outside of the city thought they lived a perfect life never wanting for nothing, having all of their needs met. But they were so wrong inside the city they had no freedom, the one thing that they wanted the most. The gods told them what kind of music they could listen too, what foods they could eat. They lived a life of fear.

A very long time ago Reka's village was very poor. They never had enough food to feed everyone to keep them from starving. The Holorans came to them pretending to be gods, they were aliens. The Holorans promised them that they would take care of them and no one would ever be hungry ever again. They promised them the moon. What did they ask for in exchange for providing their ever need, want? They asked that they give their children to them so they could use their bodies as host for the Holorans.

On the night of the choosing everyone that was the right age to be in the choosing all lined up in their rows. Reka was one of the chosen. They took her away to her new home which was a ship. Reka was so terrified when they reached the ship and the doors started to slide open that she almost fainted. Upon entering the ship she learns that she will be the host body to their queen. They place an alien worm inside of her that is the queen. Reka is a very strong person; she is the stronger of the two between her and the queen inside her body. This is not normal; the queen is supposed to be the stronger of the two with Reka only being an annoyance inside her head.

Reka tries to be the person that she thinks that the queen is from what everyone tells her about herself, the queen. But on occasion it is very hard for Reka, she is not a mean nor a hateful person. Neither does she want to be. Reka tries to make the lives of the people on the ship better for them. She changes some of the rules that were applied by the queen herself. She does end up making friends with the staff.

Reka doesn't execpt nor wants to love Jaxson but she has no choice. She finds herself liking and loving Jaxson no matter how hard she tries. Jaxson is a very nice and handsome man. She also likes Jaxson's guard Griff too, she never expected this either. Although she does have some conflict with a woman by the name of Duester. Duester is jealous of Reka and would very much like to have Jaxson for herself. There were times that I wasn't sure if Duester was jealous of Reka because she wanted Jaxson or because the queen was her friend.

I really enjoyed reading Children of the Gods. It was extremly well written. I was kinda disappointed in how it did end though. I was definetly expecting something more something way different than what did happen. I hope that their will be more stories about Reka's life.

Chosen - A Children of the Gods Short Story by Monica Millard

Chosen - A Children of the Gods Short Story by Monica Millard

Chosen - A Children of the Gods Short Story is a prequel to Monica Millard's Novel Children of the Gods (A Chosen Novel). Reka lives in a world where aliens have come to earth pretending that they are gods. She has lived all of her life (seventeen years) with the Holorans stealing her friends and using thier bodies as host. At a young age she was taught to stay humble and remain below the radar of the gods and never reveal her ability.

On the night before the choosing Reka sneaks out of her mother's house to go be with Niko the guy that she is in love with. Reka doesn't think that Niko knows that she even exist but she wants to talk to him and let him know how she feels about him. Reka is worried that Niko will be chosen by the Holorans and taken away. Although she knows that they could just as easily take her and not Niko or both but on this night she more or less believes that they will take Niko before her.

I read the prequel to Children of the Gods after I read Children of the Gods (A Chosen Novel). I actually did not know about it until I had finished Children of the Gods. The Smashwords link was at the end of the book. I am glad that I found it and read it. It explained more of who Niko was to Reka and how she felt about him. It is very short with only 10 pages but I did enjoy reading it. It showed a slightly different side of Reka. The prequel is free on Smashwords, on Amazon it is $0.99.

My Recommed for this week:

Hollowland (The Hollows #1) by Amanda Hocking

ebook

Published October 1st 2010 by Amanda Hocking (pubit!)

Goodreads synopsis:

"This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

My Thoughts

I really liked this book, well because I like zombies and anything that is horror. Remy is a kick-ass girl that is a very independent girl who can take care of herself. It has all the action that you need to keep you wanting to read more. It was one of the best books about zombies I think I have read so far.

I think Amanda Hocking did a very good job of grabbing the reader's attention and keeping it. I was so lost in the story itself that I felt as if I was right there fighting along side Remy the whole way. Looking for Max wanting to find him just as bad as Remy as if he was my little brother too. I felt like I was being attacked by zombies. As if my family, friends and my whole life was gone and it was no more.

If you are a new follower leave a comment below so that I will know and can follow you back. Also leave a link to your Friday Recommend so that I can visit you and see what you picked. Thanks for stopping in for a visit.

Review: Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi

Juliette Ferrars has been locked up for 264 days. She hasn't seen nor spoken to anyone in 264 days. The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. Juliette didn't do anything wrong, all she did was touch someone. Her touch is deadly. All her life all she's ever wanted was for someone to love her, to be her friend. Her parents abandoned her when she was very small child.

One day they put Adam Kent in the cell with her. Juliette knew Adam when they were children but she thinks that Adam does not remember her. Warner, the leader of The Reestablishment had Kent put in the cell with Juliette to spy on her. Warner wants Juliette on his side because to him Juliette can kill people with her bare hands just by touching them would be a great assect to him and his army.

What Juliette doesn't know when they put Adam in the cell with her but finds out later is that Adam does remember her. Adam wants to help Juliette take her away so that she can live a normal life. After Adam spends sometime with Juliette in her cell, Warner has both of them taken back to his army base. Warner tries to talk Juliette into being apart of his little army but she will not help him to kill anyone.

Juliette and Adam escape with Warner and his men hot on their trail. They go to where Adam and his little brother, James live. Kenji Kishimoto a friend of Adams who is also a soldier in Warner's little army follows Adam to his home. While trying to escape Warner a second time Adam and Kenji are injured. Kenji takes them to his friends.

I won Shatter Me from Turning The Pages 200 follower Giveaway. I loved Shatter Me it was a great book with a lot of twist and turns that keeps you turning pages and wanting to know more. A page turner that will keep you up half the night. I really liked Juliette because she never felt sorry for herself or whined to anyone about her problems or that she didn't get want she wanted. I loved how she handle the situation when her and Adam was interupted one night by Adam's little brother James. She didn't think about herself, she was worried about James and the life that he had been dealt. Have you read Shatter Me? What did you think? Leave me a comment and let me know. I would love to hear your thoughts on Shatter Me.

On My Wishlist Week #5:

The Witching Pen (Witching Pen Novellas #1) by Dianna Hardy

Published August 26th 2011 by Lulu

Goodreads synopsis:

It's hard being the most powerful witch on the planet. It's even harder when you're a twenty-five year old virgin who'll lose all of that power the moment you sleep with someone ... that's why Elena's never slept with her best friend and flatmate, Karl, despite the true feelings they harbour for each other.

Elena's about to discover that there are even more difficult things in life to deal with. One of them comes in the form of a pen she discovers one day, a pen that allows anything she writes to come to pass...

Suddenly, it's not just her powers or her heart that's at stake, but her very soul, as a dream demon with a seductive pull uses the pen to try and turn her away from her reality, and from Karl.

But the pen is just the beginning. Everything Elena has believed in is a lie, and her world is about to fall apart...

Why I chose The Witching Pen

The Witching Pen has been on my TBR list since Mar 11, 2012. I love reading almost anything with witches in it. Especially if it contains info about witchcraft, Wiccan and how it is practiced. The summary makes it sound like a fantastic read. Elena being the most powerful witch on the planet and she can't sleep with anyone or she will lose all of her magic. A Witching pen that everything that she writes comes true now that is magic.

Leave me a comment with a link to your Wishlist Wednesday. I would very much like to see what you chose. If you are a new follower please let me know in comment so that I can return the favor. Thanks for stopping in for a visit. I love my visitors.

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten All Time Favorite Characters In Books

My Top Ten All Time Favorite Characters In Books

  1. Edward Cullen - Twilight Saga by Stepanie Meyer.
I like Edward because he loved Bella so much and would do what ever he had to do to make her happy and to keep her safe. He understands Bella and Jacob's friendship.

  2. Bella Swan - Twilight Saga by Stepanie Meyer.
Bella has a lot of love not only for Edward and Jacob but a lot of other people too. She wants to do what is right for everybody and to make them happy.

  3. Stewart Redman - The Stand by Stephen King.
Stewart was such a good person that when he met Franny and Harold he told Harold that he wasn't gonna take his woman from him. He found out later that Franny was not Harold's woman. Therefore he wouldn't be taking Franny from him when they feel in love.

  4. Jess - Witchblood by Emma Mills.
Jess is vary independent person who wants to live her life the way that she wants. She is very self controling, she kinda gets gross out thinking about drinking blood from a human. Although she can handle drinking it from a cup or Daniel her body still reacts to the smell of human blood.

  5. Cassie Blake - The Secret Circle by L.J. Smith.
Cassie is a very sweet person by not going crazy when she finds out that the guy she is in love with belongs to someone else. She hides her feelings so that she will not hurt her friend.

  6. Zoey Redbird - The House Of Night Series by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast.
Zoey knows how to take charge and do what is right for herself and everyone else. She also knows how to handle having more than one boyfriend at one time. Not that I approve of her having more than one boyfriend, it is just a story. Zoey can kick some butt when she needs to and stand up for herself and her friends.

  7. Stevie Rae Johnson - The House Of Night Series by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast.
Stevie Rae can kick some butt when has to too. She is just a country girl that wants to help all of the bad kids get thier humanity back like Zoey helped her get hers back..

  8. Elena Gilbert - The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith.
I liked Elena because she knew what she wanted and what she wanted was Stefan and she was going to get him and no one or anything was going to stand in her way.

  9. Lanore Vesta - Fire Baptized (Habitat #1) by Kenya Wright.
Lanore was a strong indepent woman that liked to fight her own battles. She didn't want no man fighting for her. She didn't want no man telling her what to do nor does she want to be attached or tied down with a man.

  10. Augustus "Gus" McRae - Lonesome Dove (Lonesome Dove #1) by Larry McMurtry.
Gus was just an all around great guy. He knew how to take care of women and young kids too. He knew how to fight too. He was a very smart man. He knew people and how to deal with them. He knew when to fight and when it was not a smart idea to fight.

Leave me a comment with your Top Ten list. I would very much like to see who your favorite characters are. Thanks for stopping in for a visit. I love my visitors.
