The Upside of Regret by T.K. Rapp

Publication Date:  May 17, 2017

Brighton and Leah have been the best of friends since seventh grade. Where Brighton is the quiet one who is focused on school, Leah is the bold and daring one who craves the adoration of an audience. It’s always worked for them, until now.

Heading into their senior year, Brighton is challenged with an opportunity that can change the course of her future. The only problem? She just might have to step out of her best friend’s shadow.

But when Leah doesn’t support the choices she makes, Brighton is forced to reevaluate what true friendship is.

Brighton is changing and exciting doors are opening. A new world of music, friends, and even love are falling at her feet. But it’s hard to enjoy it when Leah’s life is spiraling out of control.

Now Brighton must try to not only save her friendship, but also her friend, before it’s too late.

Interview with T.K. Rapp

What inspired you to write The Upside of Regret?

My daughters and I often have very open and honest conversations about a variety of topics. From these talks I tend to get ideas for stories. I realize at 13 & 15, I’m “mom” therefore some of my advice may go in one ear and out the other, so I view my stories as advice for them.

Can you tell us a little bit about the next books in the Aimless Perfection Series or what you have planned for the future?

Leah will be getting her own story…hopefully it will come out this year. And there is the potential for one more story.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Upside of Regret?

Brighton is the main character and she’s the only girl of three kids. It’s her senior year in high school and she’s a very put together girl. She knows what she wants out of her education and tends to be serious. Her best friend, Leah, is the free spirit, the adventurous and popular one of their duo.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

I definitely have my favorites, but it’s so hard to narrow it down. So I will tell you that there are some authors that I absolutely admire because of their genuine kindness toward their fellow authors. People like Stacey Lynn, Carey Heywood, Colleen Hoover, and so many others.

If you could time-travel would you travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you like to visit this particular time period?

I think I’d travel back to a time before I was born, around 1954 when my grandfather was still alive. He died when my mom and her siblings were all under the age of 5, so obviously I never got to meet him. But I’ve always been fascinated with my family history and have learned so much about him. In a way, I feel like I do know him. But I think it would be amazing to have met him.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

I have 2 dogs. Wicket “Wick” is my five year old shihtzu and she’s so stinking cute. She’s always had a personality. And then my other is Stormy Tuesday, my almost two year old maltipoo. Best way to describe her - spaz. Hahah.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us today.

Thank you so much for letting me stop by and I hope your readers enjoy The Upside of Regret!!

Congrats on your new book and thanks so much for the interview. This sounds like a wonderful story and one that I'd love to share with my granddaughter who is 13.
