A reluctant knight.
A magical descendent.
A race against time.
A freak accident thrusts Nakeeta Alva into a dangerous world of secrets, ancient spells, and a legacy she never wanted. The last in a magical line, she’s tasked with restoring the balance to a supernatural world poised for ruin.
Tasked with the care of their savior, Crewe’s main focus is survival. Used to giving orders, the knight isn’t prepared for the sassy witch’s mouth or her lure. The powerful woman reminded him of his humanity and challenged his beliefs. Keeping her safe is his mission, but the real danger may be losing his heart.
Together, they will save the world … or die trying.

Interview with Shyla Novak

Interview #1

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Bad Blood?

Nakeeta isn’t your average spiritual advisor. She’s the kind that realigns your chakra, reads your palms, and tarot cards. This self-made business owner has a dark past, and a future she never could’ve imagined for herself.

Crewe was a mercenary knight who was turned after he fell in battle. The old world vampire has been tasked with protecting Nakeeta at any cost. He has no clue how high the payment will be, or that his heart might end up a casualty.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

I’m working on the second book in the Bad Duology, Bad Moon. The adventure continues as we meet Joss, the wolf who's been held up as a Moon maiden, and controlled by her Alpha to keep her mother safe. When she learns that saving the world means going against her pack, her life is turned upside down.

How long would you say it takes you to write a book?

Oh wow, it really varies. On average for a 40/60k book, I’d say about a month and a half?

What is your favorite childhood book?

I had many, but I’ll mention one Oh, the places you’ll go by Dr. Suess.

What was the hardest scene from Bad Blood to write?

I think the final battle. I feel like action scenes are always a fine line between being totally over the top and not edgy enough. It takes me quite a few revisions before I’m satisfieded.

What made you want to become a writer?

I honestly, can’t pinpoint the moment. Making up stories was something I always did. Once I realized I could write down the stories in my head, I was hooked.

Interview #2

Do You See Writing as a Career?

After seven years of hard work, persistence, and hair pulling, I’m lucky to call writing my fulltime career.

What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

It changes with each book. At times it can be the research aspect. Some subjects are not as well known and require some serious digging to find accurate information. My librarians are used to me asking them to order in the weirdest books. Other times it can be the emotions involved. Heavily emotional books take a toll on me personally. I have to take breaks, walk away, and at times balance the sorrow, and angst with happy things, or downtime.

Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

I’ve been blessed to meet some wonderful people who I include in my tribe. My RWA local chapter all have to go on this list as well as authors like LaQuette, Rue Volley , and many more that I couldn’t list here at one time. Writing can be a lonely occupation, having friends who understand the business are a life saver.

What is next for your writing?

I’m currently working on the follow-up and final book in the Bad Duology , Bad Moon.

Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing?

If so, what are you currently reading? Yes, I’m an avid reader. I just finished the Simple Faith of Mister Rogers by  Amy Hollingsworth. I jumped at the chance to learn more about the man who became an unsuspecting icon.  I really enjoyed it.  I’m working on picking my next read at the moment.
