BOOK DESCRIPTION

The Illusionist

Fredrick Knowles is an illusionist. A conjuror extraordinary-that is until one night in Vegas when things go wrong. Very, very wrong.

EXCERPT

The Illusionist

Fredrick Knowles was an illusionist.

A conjuror extraordinary.

He performed with no need of gimmicks or patter, for Fredrick commanded more than the routine legerdemain. And tonight, before a packed house inside the Grand Salle Hotel in Las Vegas, he would finally get his chance to show the world that he had arrived, that he was indeed a prestidigitator without equal.

On stage, the warm-up act was finishing her set.

Fredrick stood offstage with Leurre, a French bulldog. Illusionist and dog gazed out at the crowd.

His audience.

Fredrick smiled. His mind envisioned the end to this evening. The assembled would rise and shout without deviation, "Le Magnifique!" Men would look at one another and shake their heads in amazement and wonder. Women would swoon. The clapping would be thunderous and without interruption.

"Le Magnifique!"

Fredrick bent forward at the waist and offered his respect. Leurre bowed as only a French bulldog could do-with a slight dip of his head.

A feeling of well-being washed over Fredrick. He smiled radiantly at the state of his coming prosperity and fame.

But-it was not always like this.

MY REVIEW

The Illusionist

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Fredrick Knowles is an illusionist and since he was a child he never talked to anyone because he was afraid if he did he would tell them his secret and they would think he was crazy, a lunatic. If he spoke and they found out what he could do they would send him away. They would put him in an asylum.

As he grew older he realized that he was not crazy that what he could do was very much real. But he was smart enough to keep his mouth shut and he figured out how he could use what he could do to his advantage to make a living as an illusionist. He wanted to be the best of the best.

One day when he was performing for his friends in the street he met a new friend Leurre. Leurre is a French Bulldog who wears a hat and can do all kinds of different tricks. Fredrick and Leurre performed on stage and was so good at what they did that everyone loved them. Fredrick biggest dream of his life was coming true with the help of his little friend, Leurre.

INTERVIEW

Mike Kearby

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Mike Kearby: After listening to the wonderful stories my grandmother would spin at bedtime.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Mike Kearby: It was a Superman comic book at about age 6.

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Mike Kearby: I actually read across a number of genres. I might find a Sci-fi novel fascinating and then read four or five books in the genre before turning to Horror or True Crime, etc…

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Mike Kearby: To Kill a Mockingbird. Every writer should study the way in which Harper Lee wove her story - simple yet elegant in the reading.

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Mike Kearby: Ray Bradbury. It was his books that promoted my own imagination and the resulting stories I have written.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Mike Kearby: It would have to be 1470 -1520 Italy. Who could resist the opportunity to speak or observe da Vinci? Let's face it, Jobs or Gates or Einstein pale in comparison to the mind of Leonardo.

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Mike Kearby: Not to sound arrogant, but easy. I think it's because the person I always try to please in the writing is Me. That philosophy doesn't always translate into a publishing contract, but it keeps me interested in exploring the ideas from my imagination.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Mike Kearby: I have a full-blood Spanish goat named Mattie. Her mother abandoned her at birth. I bottle-fed her until weaning and the two of us have been "buds" ever since.

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Mike Kearby: My food pyramid consists of: Sushi, soft tacos, and brisket.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Mike Kearby: Write about what interests you. Don't take rejection personally. And above all remember: For most authors, it took 20 years of writing to become an overnight success.
