Cassie Scot, still stinging from her parents' betrayal, wants out of the magical world. But it isn't letting her go. Her family is falling apart and despite everything, it looks like she may be the only one who can save them.

To complicate matters, Cassie owes Evan her life, making it difficult for her to deny him anything he really wants. And he wants her. Sparks fly when they team up to find two girls missing from summer camp, but long-buried secrets may ruin their hopes for happiness.

Excerpt - Secrets and Lies:

"I smell trouble."

Evan Blackwood had been staring blankly at a news report about a hunt for a man who had robbed a local bank earlier in the week. Now, he stared blankly at his best friend and cousin, Scott Lee. Evan had hoped Scott would help take his mind off the woman he loved - the woman who had flatly rejected him. Instead, Scott was making things worse with dire predictions… predictions Evan had no choice but to take seriously. Scott was, after all, a powerful intuitive, whose gift had only seemed to improve after his unfortunate run-in with a werewolf ten years earlier.

"What do you expect me to do?" Evan asked. "Hit her over the head with a club and drag her by the hair back to my cave?"

Scott snorted. "You never had to do any of that. You had her right here, in your cave, and you let her walk out. You could order her back, but you won't."

Evan didn't dignify the comment with a response. Scott's instincts had always served him better when it came to physical threats rather than emotional ones, and Scott didn't want to hear that Cassie would hate Evan for forcing her to stay with him. In Scott's world, after she was safe, gratitude would soften her heart. Or if not that, then at least time. If Evan had ever thought anything of the sort, her reaction to his saving her life, and the life debt she now owed him, set him straight. He had to admit, his initial marriage proposal hadn't been at all well done. Nerves he barely acknowledged had fumbled the question into a near-command, Marry me, and she had freaked out. Still, he had hoped she would want to marry him. Now, he wasn't even sure how he could try to convince her without inadvertently coercing her. The life debt made it difficult for her to refuse anything she knew he wanted, and impossible for her to refuse anything he directly commanded.

Scott wasn't the first one to suggest he just claim her, either. Evan's father, Victor Blackwood, had said much the same thing, adding: I want to see you steal that girl right out from under her father's nose. At least Scott's motives were better.

"I spotted one of the Travises in town today," Scott said.

Evan nearly growled. "One of these days, we really need to run that family out of town."

"Hey, you know I'd help you with that if it came to it, but it isn't going to happen anytime soon."

"They wouldn't go after Cassie."

"I wouldn't put anything past them."

He had a point, Evan grudgingly admitted. The Travises had always lived just outside of civilized behavior, and they seemed to make their own rules.

"And I told you about the Blairs asking questions," Scott added.

"You also said they were probably just trying to stir up trouble." The Blairs were mind mages, adept at manipulating people's behaviors with a few well-chosen, well-timed words.

"They may be succeeding."

"Or they may be hoping to goad me into acting too soon, pushing her away."

Scott didn't have an answer to that. Perhaps it was just as well that he didn't understand matters of the heart, since he was too dangerous by half, the beast within him prone to violence. Scott was, perhaps, the only man in town Evan didn't know if he could beat in a fight. He only hoped he never had to find out for sure.

"Come on." Evan shut off the TV with a flicker of will, not even bothering with the remote, resting within easy arm's reach on the end table next to him. "I can't stay here anymore tonight. We'll find her, make sure she's safe, and if not, send a message to anyone stupid enough to try anything."

My Review of Secrets and Lies:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

In ParaNormal Detective we met Cassie Scot who unlike other members of her family she has no magic and needs her family or someone for protection. In ParaNormal Detective Cassie's parents did a disownment spell and kicked her out of the house on the same day. They didn't even give her a chance or the time to find somewhere to live. But luckily Cassie has some very good friends. One of her friends Kaitlin let her stay with her.

Her best friend from school has come back into her life now and she figures out that he likes and wants her. Unfortunately he has magic but she doesn't and she thinks he is controlling her and wants no part of him. But I think she is just hurting from a broken heart you know with her mother and father kicking her out of the house. She is being a little over dramatic about the whole situation but her parents have thrown her out with no warning what so ever. She doesn't know if she can trust him or not. She has feelings for him but she doesn't know if he is making her feel like that or if she really does like him. With Evan having magic rumor has it that he has put love spells on girls for a very long time. This is the reason that Cassie doesn't trust him. She doesn't actually think the rumors are true but she is not sure so she doesn't trust the feelings she has for him.

Evan wants to protect her and so does her family. Evan wants to marry her but she is afraid and she doesn't know what she wants at the moment. She is afraid to trust her own feelings. She is so mixed up. She wants to do everything on her own. She wants to be independent so bad. But what she is going to have to figure out is that sometimes you need the help of another person whether it is mentally or physically.

Cassie and Evan's families are like enemies. They have never gotten along or haven't for a very long time. They can't stand the fact that Cassie and Evan have been friends since childhood. Cassie will not accept any help from her family not even help from her brother. In ways Cassie is a very strong person and is very mature but then in other ways she has some growing to do. Cassie has a good heart and would never hurt anyone knowingly but sometimes when we are hurting we do tend to lash out at the ones we love the most.

I have truly loved reading and getting to know each and every character in the Cassie Scot series and can't wait to read the next book. The ending in Secrets and Lies will throw you for a loop. It will just blow your mind. You will not believe the ending it is amazing. Neither Cassie nor Evan deserves the deal that they have both been dealt in life. If you have not read the Cassie Scot series then I would suggest that you start with ParaNormal Detective first and then Secrets and Lies. I highly recommend the Cassie Scot series to anyone who loves paranormal and witches that also contains a lot of twist and turns plus some mystery and magic thrown in on the side. Pick up a copy of both books today!

Blurb:

Cassie Scot is the ungifted daughter of powerful sorcerers, born between worlds but belonging to neither. At 21, all she wants is to find a place for herself, but earning a living as a private investigator in the shadow of her family's reputation isn't easy. When she is pulled into a paranormal investigation, and tempted by a powerful and handsome sorcerer, she will have to decide where she truly belongs.

My Review of Cassie Scot ParaNormal Detective:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Cassie Scot is a young woman who has six brothers and sisters. She lives with her mom and dad along with her brothers and sisters in a castle with a draw bridge that opens like doors. Cassie also has her own business as detective, a normal detective that is. Before she started working on her own she worked for the police department. The sheriff stops by her office almost every day if not every day or every time he speaks to her and ask her when is coming back to work. But of course Cassie tells him "not today" and he leaves it until the next time. Cassie has been working for herself for about six months now and has just gotten her first job delivering a subpoena to a woman, Belinda who is a witch. But when she gets to her place no one is home and Cassie knows something is wrong right away.

While she is there waiting in her car another car pulls up into Belinda's driveway. When he gets out Cassie recognizes him as her childhood best friend, Evan. Evan and Cassie became best friends when they first met in school and stayed best friends until they were around fourteen years old. Cassie's family and Evan's family never got along so Cassie and Evan were told a long time ago by both of their parents that they could not be friends.

Evan is at Belinda's because his cousin is missing and he is looking for her. His cousin's truck is sitting in Belinda's front yard. So he is there to try and find out where or what has happen to his cousin. When they find her dead in Belinda's house and Belinda missing, Evan hires Cassie to help him find his cousin.

Most people in the town they live in do not like Cassie and her family because they know or believe that her family is witches. Cassie has six brothers and sisters because her parents believe that with seven children that they are protected against bad magic.

While Cassie is investigating Belinda's murder she realizes that someone is trying to kill her and she is only staying about one step ahead of them. Cassie must now try to figure out who is attacking her. Is the person who wants Cassie dead the same person who killed Belinda? Who is after Cassie? Is it her childhood friend, Evan? Is it her "boyfriend"? Want to know who is after Cassie? Yes. Well pick up a copy of Cassie Scot: ParaNormal Detective today to find out. When I was about half way through or a little more I thought I know who did it. I know who killed Belinda and who is after Cassie. Boy was I wrong (slaps forehead, dang).

Author Interview:

The Avid Reader: What inspired you to write Secrets and Lies?

Christine Amsden: Secrets and Lies is the second of four books about Cassie Scot, the ungifted daughter of powerful sorcerers. Cassie came to me in a flash of inspiration as I tried to think about what kind of power or destiny I could give a fantasy heroine that hasn't already been done before. The answer of course was - none at all! This series is about Cassie coming into her own in a world where she doesn't quite belong, and book two continues that journey with a bit more romance and self-discovery.

The Avid Reader: When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Christine Amsden: I can't think of an age when I didn't know I wanted to be a writer. I've always been a writer.

The Avid Reader: What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

Christine Amsden: I remember making up stories to go along with picture books before I could even "read" in the way you probably mean. I've always read, just as I've always written.

The Avid Reader: What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

Christine Amsden: All of them. My favorite stories are the ones about strong character undergoing some kind of transformation or revelation. Unfortunately, there's no genre for that, so I just have to guess. I read a lot of fantasy, romance, mystery, and science fiction. (And I go through phases.)

The Avid Reader: What is your favorite book?

Christine Amsden: Dreamer, the last book in the Cassie Scot series. If you want me to pick someone else's, I just can't! I love too many books for too many different reasons. I don't have a favorite. Part of why I write is that as I read, I often feel like I'm looking for a story I haven't found yet. So saying that one of my own is my favorite isn't like saying I think I'm better than every other author - on the contrary, I have a lot of humility. (To much, some days. It's a hard business, and not everyone is a fan.) But I sat down and wrote the book I most wanted to read, even though I hadn't found it yet. So yeah, it's my favorite.

The Avid Reader: You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Christine Amsden: Again, I have no favorites. I have moods. And mood swings. :)
I like Jim Butcher and Orson Scott Card (his old stuff), I like Heinlein and Asimov and Linda Howard and Catherine Anderson and Jayne Ann Krentz (under all three pseudonyms) and Karen Marie Monina and Jk Rowling. Each one of them fills a slightly different need within me.

The Avid Reader: If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

Christine Amsden: One of my college history professors asked this exact same question on the first day of class one year. I felt a bit weird at the time to answer by saying, "Now's good." I left thinking I should have come up with a better answer, but it's fifteen years later and I still haven't. Oh, maybe it would be fun to travel with Doctor Who for a bit, but I'm not in love with any period of history.

The Avid Reader: When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Christine Amsden: Yes. Some days it flows, some days I want to cry. Some days I do cry. :) Cassie mostly came easily to me, but at the time I was sort of unencumbered. This has been a hard writing year for me. I'm trying to keep working ahead while at the same time trying to market the books that are being published, take on editing jobs to pay for that marketing, and every couple of months I get edits in on yet another draft of yet another book. It's been hard to focus. But I think when all this passes, it will be a little easier again.

The Avid Reader: Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

Christine Amsden: Not at the moment, no. I had cats, but after the last one died a few months ago we've decided not to get another one because my husband has a mild allergy. (He didn't have the allergy when we got the cats in the first place.) I'm okay with it for now. My kids are still young enough to sit in my lap so until they're older, I think that's all I need.

The Avid Reader: What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Christine Amsden: I'm a chocoholic - actually, a chocolate snob chocoholic. Halloween has come and gone with yet another reminder of why I generally avoid cheap candy. It feeds on itself, rather than truly satisfying a craving. And it doesn't really taste that good. But give me some Lindt or Godiva... mmmm...

The Avid Reader: Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Christine Amsden: Lots, actually. I put up writing tips on my blog sometimes, and I hire myself out as a coach/mentor. But the only general bit of advice I have is this: Only write if you love it. It isn't going to make you rich.

Christine Amsden: Thanks so much for having me here today!

As the Christmas season is ripped apart by the news that Jess' old friend Alex has been turned into a vicious killer, festivities are dropped, Jess returns to England and the hunt begins. But Alex isn't the only one being hunted, for Mary has found a way to extinguish the entire bloodline of Malden witches, and it is Jess's book of shadows that's the key. As things hot up, Jess finds she must leave Daniel and the safety of Manchester in a final hunt for her nemesis, Mary. In a fight-off that only one of them can survive, loved ones will fall… daemons will rise… but who will survive?

Excerpt:

'I know it's selfish, but I don't want you to go,' Daniel said, a couple of minutes later.

I looked at him and smiled.

'I'll be fine, I will.'

'You'd better be. I don't know what I'd do without you. Those months I stupidly spent apart from you… they were torment for me,' he said.

'They were torment for me too.'

What others are saying:

"I love this series. I can hardly wait until the 3rd book, WitchLove is released… This is a series that I will look forward to re-reading just as the new book is ready for release."
-Carrie, book reviewer at OnceUponATwilight.com

"The characters feel real, the world feels authentic, and the story literally throbs with an underlying intensity that builds with each page. In short, Witchblood is an imaginative, satisfying read that still manages to leave the reader hungry for more.
-Thomas Winship, author of Vaempires: Revolution & Vaempires: Zombie Rising

"A very well written series!! I love the mix of the supernatural forces in each book and wait with baited breath for the next one. Great book for all ages!!"
-Lisa Curt, Amazon Review for WitchLove

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

I have been very fortunate to have read all of the WicthBlood novellas, thanks to the author Emma Mills. I received a copy of the first novella WitchBlood for being the 50th person to like her page Witchblood the Novel on Facebook back in Feb. 2012 and now she has over 1,000 likes. I have thoroughly enjoyed taking this wonderful journey with Jess, Daniel, Eva, Brittany and all of the characters in the series and with Emma too. I am very heartbroken to see it end but I have been uplifted by just knowing that there will probably be some short stories in the character's futures. I can't wait to see what Emma has in store for us with the short stories and all of the other novels that she will be writing.

In WitchHunt we kind of pick up where we left off with Jess in WitchLove with Jess still in America with her family and Coven of witches. She has gotten her witches licensee and is now a full-fledged witch. (Way to go Jess!) Jess is a half-witch/half-vampire. Being half vampire makes Jess stronger than other witches which gives her an advantage to her magic at times. Jess likes being In America with her family but her heart and place is in Manchester, England, United Kingdom with Daniel, the love of her life and soulmate. Jess is called back to Manchester to help in the hunt for her bff Alex. She has found out that her enemy the woman/vampire that wants her dead has turned Alex into a vampire. Jess wants to save Alex from this woman, Mary but she doesn't realize that the way Alex has been taught by this woman that Alex will never be her bff ever again but Jess must try. She can't nor will she give up on Alex without giving it a try. She believes in Alex and will be her bff until the end.

So Jess returns to Manchester and with the help of all of her friends Daniel, Eva, Brittany, Luke among others they all go on a man hunt for Alex and Mary. They need to take Mary out if Jess is to have any peace and get to live her life without having to worry about someone trying to take her life away from her for something that is not her fault. Luke and his father are trying to find Mary and they allow Jess to come along with them in their hunt but Daniel and Eva are not allowed to go with them because it is out of their territory. Vampires cannot go into other vampire's territory it is very disrespectable not to mention you may get your head chopped off for it or something like that in other words. Daniel doesn't like this one little bit, no way does he want to let Jess out of his site but he knows he has no choice. Jess promises him that she will come back to him. Jess delves into some black magic as a last resort only when fighting with Mary. She will only use black magic if it is the only choice she has. Like if her life or any of her friend's lives are in danger.

I was very sad to see Jess lose her bff Alex with all that she has been through and all of the people that she has lost in her life as a human and now as a vampire but she has gained a new bff with Brittany. She has a new life and a new boyfriend now so I guess it is only fitting that she has a new bff to go with her new life as well. I am glad that she has found all of these new people to help her with dealing with her life as a vampire and that she gets to be a good witch and vampire. I am really going to miss all you guys.

Ok now I have a few questions for you. Have you read any of the novellas in the WitchBlood series? I hope you have said yes but if not then my next question is WHY, WHY, WHY? (Insert pic of me here with my month hanging open.) Seriously folks you do not know what you are missing out on. The WitchBlood series is one of the best series that you will ever be fortunate to lay your hands on. You need to go right now and pick up a copy not only the first book but you will need a copy of all four plus the Novelette of Genevieve's or Eva's story of how she became a vampire. Genevieve (A WitchBlood Novelette) is Free on Amazon.

Book Tour: Forget Me Not by Sarah Daltry

Forget Me Not Banner photo ForgotMeNotVBTBanner.png

Forget Me Not Flowering Series Book 1

Forget Me Not Cover photo forgetmenotcover.jpg

This isn't a sweet and innocent coming of age story. If dirty talk, bedroom toys, and threesomes offend you… this is not your book. There are also no billionaires, strippers, or virgins. This is just the story of typical college kids trying to connect to each other.

"No one tells you when you start school just how homesick you will be, or how hard it will be to start life over with no direction and no friends or family. No one says that becoming your own person is terrifying."

Lily had a crush on her brother's best friend, Derek, for years - which led to their steamy night ten months ago in her bedroom. Now, she's off to college and she and Derek are still going strong. However, when school starts, Lily realizes it's hard to maintain a relationship, while also trying to live her own life. She and Derek find themselves falling apart and she has no idea where to turn.

Enter Jack. Everything about him is wrong for Lily and she knows it, but she can't stop herself from being attracted to him. When things implode with Derek, it's Jack who's there to pick up the pieces - and to show Lily an entirely new set of experiences she didn't know she was missing.

Of course, Jack has his own problems and once Lily gets to know him better, she starts to wonder if she can handle all of Jack. When Derek reappears on the scene, Lily is forced to decide between two guys and herself. Can she find herself without losing the people who matter in the process? .

This is a work intended for readers 18+ as it features explicit sex between people in college. See where it began in the short story, " Her Brother's Best Friend."

Excerpt:

He moves closer and already my body is responding. He smells like cigarettes and leather, two smells I never thought were sexy until now. I want to fall into his body, to be wrapped in his arms, and I fight it. It's wrong and it makes no sense. I have everything I could ever want. Jack is just a distraction.

"I'm not that kind of girl," I tell him.

He steps closer still and kisses my neck. His lips are soft, which is unexpected, and it sends a shiver through me. Jack brings me in to his chest. I can feel his heart beating; it's quickening and it matches mine. I feel his tongue sliding down along my collarbone. There is nothing like this, but I need him to stop. And yet, I never want him to stop. "I'd love to know exactly what kind of girl you are."

Almost as if they are not my own, my hands slip between his jacket and his shirt. The heat of his skin burns me even through the fabric of his clothes. His lips continue to travel downward, but as they reach the curve of my breasts, something in me wakes up. I tear myself away from him and back up a few inches.

"I have a boyfriend," I repeat. "I can't do this."

"Where is he?" Jack asks. His eyes are burning.

"What?"

"Where is your boyfriend? You've mentioned him before, but you run into me a lot for someone who's so in love."

Lily of the Valley Flowering Series Book 1.5

Lily of the Valley Cover photo LilyoftheValleycover.jpg

This isn't a sweet and innocent coming of age story. If dirty talk, bedroom toys, and threesomes offend you... this is not your book. There are also no billionaires, strippers, or virgins. This is just the story of typical college kids trying to connect to each other.

"No one tells you about pain. They tell you that it hurts, that sometimes it's consuming. What they don't tell you is that it's not the pain that can kill you. It's the uncomfortable numbness that follows, the weakness in your body when you realize your lungs may stop taking in air and you just can't exert enough energy to care. It's the way taste and color and smell fade from the world and all you're left with is a sepia print of misery. That's when the shift starts - the movement from passive to active. I fall asleep, hoping that the morning will bring back the pain. At least the pain is a thing."

Plagued by a dark past, Jack sees college as a way out. Desperate to escape the area where he grew up, the people who know his secrets, and his own family, he deals with his problems through alcohol and meaningless sex.

When he first sees Lily, she's the epitome of everything he hates. Yet something about her makes Jack rethink everything he knows and assumes about other people. Now, with the help of his best friend and lover, Jack has to decide if he wants to pursue something that he knows will only end badly.

Can Lily be one of the few people who can see Jack for who he really is - or will his darkness be too much for her to handle?

Extra, extra, read all about it: Zombies Invade London!

It has been thirty years since the Voodoo Queen plagued England with the zombie disease that has since swept the world. Humans have had to learn to function around them while the dead kill innocent people. The government continues its efforts to try to contain and find a cure for the problem.

However, by the cover of night, a man who hunts zombie, known only as Aeron, roams the streets in search of protecting the upright citizens from the flesh eating creatures. One foggy evening Lucille Knight becomes one of these people and Aeron's interest is instantly peeked. A stubborn, feisty "lady" in this day in age? How challenging.

But Aeron will have a little competition when Miss. Knight meets Lord Garrett Ashdown, the son of Earl Thomas or a man better known as: The Inventor. A man who builds automatons for the direct purpose of killing zombies; mysteriously understanding their blood and the way they sense humans.

It is still unclear. And the current edition isn't spilling the beans just yet…

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Gravely Inaminated is way different than any other book with zombies that I have ever read. It will amaze you how different it is. I really enjoyed the differences it had from other zombie books. The zombies are there and they will eat your brains or maybe just eat you but the difference is that the people are living their lives as if there are no zombies. They go to work and still have their parties. They have inventors that invent machines like robots that will walk beside you down the street and will kill the zombies for you. But I guess if the zombies have been around for thirty years after a while someone would invent something to kill zombies to make money off of it. I mean eventually people will have to go on with their lives. But people will also get greedy again and will start living for their selves and it will be everybody taking care of number one again. But I think the zombie killing machines or robot thingy is an awesome idea. I think the creators of The Walking Dead should stand up and take notice of Gravely Inaminated or at least anyone who likes watching The Walking Dead or reading the comics.

Lucy is a woman with a broken heart. She was engaged to be married to this man and then all of sudden just right out the blue he broke it off with her. Lucy never saw it coming; it just slammed her in the face and left a world of hurt in its place. Her beau left her and married another woman. A few months down the road Lucy saw them at a party and the woman he left her for was supporting a very round stomach. Lucy was still hurting some and this kind of upset her. But her bff, Emily came to the rescue and whisked her away.

Emily is trying to help Lucy get over this guy by helping her to believe that another man can care about her and not play her for a fool. While at this party they meet the Countess' son and he has taken to Lucy and wants to court her. But Lucy is afraid that he will break her heart too. Emily is trying to tell her that she is a good person and deserves to have someone that cares about her.

Lucy is on her way home one night when she runs into a little bit of trouble with some zombies. Lucy is saved from the zombies from this dude, Aeron who goes out at night killing zombies and saving people from them. Why do these people not carry weapons with them when they go out? But I assume that is has to do with the fact that the zombies have been around for about thirty years. Lucy runs into old Aeron a few more times and becomes quite fund of him and he also starts having feelings for her as well.

Lucy meets Lord Ashdown at a party one night and she kind of likes him and she thinks he is cute. But her father and Lord Ashdown's mother the Countess neither one likes the fact that neither Lord Ashdown nor Lucy is attracted to each other. Her father introduces her to this guy that works as a teller at his bank, a guy that Lucy does not like very much at all and she has just met him.

Well after her father tries to hook her up with this Mr. Simmons and that doesn't seem to work out he then proceeds to hook her up with Lord Cowley. Oh and Lucy doesn't want any part of him either. So the Countess Ashdown comes to her rescue by asking her father to allow Lucy to come to her home and be her lady in waiting. Since Lucy's mother died when she was just a small child she has not had a woman to teach her proper manners or how to be a lady. So Countess Ashdown is going to be the one to step up help Lucy out by teaching her how to be the proper lady. Lucy is all up for this she can make her father happy and at the same time she can put all these men folk that he keeps setting her with off longer and longer.

Lucy is hurting very badly still from her broken engagement a few months and can't seem to find any trust left in heart and doesn't want to be courting any men yet. But her father thinks she needs find herself a man. Lucy is not ready for another relationship yet but none of this men folk seem to realize this nor do they actually care. For someone who doesn't want anything to do with men at the moment she sure does have a lot of men on her tail chasing after her.

Lucy and Lord Garrett danced well together at the party. Emily commented on how well they looked together and how well they fit together out on the dance floor. Which kind of upset Lord Garrett's mother somewhat only because I get the feeling that she is jealous of him not that she actually thought he was too good for Lucy. Oh but to Lucy it was like floating on air she to be dancing with him. Their dancing together made her feel as if they knew each other all of their lives.

When I first started reading Gravely Inanimated I thought I am not going to like this one at all. Why? Well because I have not read any book about zombies quite like this at all. But you know it was quite refreshing from the norm of zombie books. I am so very glad that I kept on reading and reading and reading. Gravely Inanimate or may Lucy will take you on a ride for your life with all her beau's and all the trouble she gets into with the zombies. I highly recommend Gravely Inanimated to anyone who totally adores zombies.

Blurb:

Coralee Bradley is proud to be the only veterinarian in the small town of Davis, Wisconsin. The picturesque community sits nestled in the river valley surrounded by lush wooded bluffs. Everything about Davis is tranquil except for one thing -- zombies. Coralee finds herself battling for her life against the same people she called neighbors seventy-two hours earlier.

Sergeant Jordan Parks invades Cora's private domain after his black ops zombie fighting unit is overrun by the horde. Injured, he seeks refuge with an angelic redhead. When she suddenly becomes a threat to their safety there's only one thing he can do -- make love to her.

Cora has never seen a better looking man, but it's just her luck to find him when the world is going crazy and certain death waits outside. Jordan soothes her fear using his buff body to bring her to heights of pleasure she'd never imagined possible. One night of end-of-the-world sex will never be enough, but can they survive long enough for another roll in the hay? Cora only knows one thing -- zombies sure as hell don't make good pets.

Excerpt:

The shooting outside stopped. She waited. Taking a deep breath, Cora stood up and checked the window again. The tank in the center of town had stopped its slow progression. A wave of the hungry undead surged over the metallic behemoth. She hoped whoever was operating it was still alive. When she'd first seen the National Guard roll into town she'd thought she'd been saved, but looking out at the overturned jeeps, bodies, and abandoned weapons, she knew salvation wasn't going to be that simple.

A clatter echoed in the back of the clinic. Cora gasped. Her hands were shaking as she picked up her bag. She reached into the top drawer where she kept her emergency tranquilizer gun. She'd never had to use it on an unruly patient, but now she wondered how well the drug would work on an animated corpse. Shivering, she slowly crept back towards her small operating room. Turning the corner, she passed the storage closet and finally her hand touched the knob to the back room. She hoped that feral cat hadn't escaped. Cautiously she turned the knob and peeked inside.

A tall man in a uniform was going through her supply bins. She couldn't see his face, so she couldn't tell if he was one of them. A desperate breath escaped her and she bit her lip. Here goes nothing. Cora threw open the door and dropped her bag. She raised the gun, ready to fire at the interloper.

He turned. She saw blood running down his forehead. The intruder's eyes were wide and framed with thick black lashes, and they were clear, not the milky white of death.

Cora let go of the breath she'd been holding and lowered her weapon. "You scared the shit out of me," she said.

He raised his pistol.

"Whoa, just hang the hell on. You're in my clinic," she shouted. Her knees wobbled. This was just too much. Don't get weepy! She tried to obey her inner voice, but her lip trembled.

"Were you bitten?" He had one of those deep, radio perfect voices. There was a seductive resonance in his tone. He was handsome, movie star hot, and it wasn't just the uniform. The man had well-proportioned classical features. His eyes were shadowed with fatigue, but they were the most startling shade of green. Perfection. She almost felt the heat radiating off him and his six-pack abs.

What is wrong with me? He's pointing a gun at me and today is mostly likely the first day of the apocalypse. Why am I so fixated on his total sex-a-lusciousness?

"Were. You. Bitten?" he repeated in annoyance.

"No," she replied, scowling.

He lowered his gun. "I think you and I may be the last."

At first, she didn't understand what he meant, and then the horrific understanding dawned on her. "The last?" she squeaked out. The idea everyone she'd ever known was dead or -- worse, undead -- squeezed her heart with almost unbearable pain. "Are there reinforcements coming?"

"Don't think so." He returned to his search and spoke without looking at her.

"We need to get out of town!" Cora said as she pulled her bag higher on her shoulder. She'd waited too long. She should've run sooner, but she'd been waiting for her sister.

"The tank was no match for those things. I seriously doubt we'd be able to get past the bastards on foot."

His harsh assessment put a glare on her face. "Hey, those bastards used to be my friends and neighbors." Cora's voice rose as she reminded him to show respect.

"Sorry," he muttered gruffly, but she didn't hear remorse in his tone. His pupils appeared dilated. She realized her only hope looked like he was ready to fall over.

"Sit down. Let me take care of your head."

He must have been looking for some bandages. He'd come to the right place. He sat while she grabbed what she needed. "What happened?"

"I was dodging a few of the infected bastards when I had to scale a fence and duck under a sign. I hit my head."

"You didn't touch your cut after touching the infected? Or let one of them touch your wound?" Cora asked with concern. She had no idea how this spread, but an open gash seemed like an invitation for infection.

"No. I don't think so."

"Well, that's good. Hold still. This might sting."

"Damn," he spat out as she wiped at the gash with an antiseptic covered pad.

"Sorry."

"So are you the only doctor in town?"

Cora grinned. It felt strange to be standing there smiling when all hell was breaking loose a few feet away. "No. I'm the town vet. Davis is too small to support its own human clinic. We don't have a doctor. I make many house calls to local farms. You're the first human patient I've seen in this office, but I don't think you have the luxury of being picky."

He grunted, but didn't tell her to stop. She finished wrapping his wound. His hand was bleeding and she cleaned and wrapped that too.

"I'm Cora. Dr. Coralee Bradley."

"Jordan Parks," he said. She already knew part of that -- Parks was embroidered on a patch on the right side of his chest. The other side said US ARMY. She hoped he was wrong and there were reinforcements on the way.

"So what's going to happen now? What do we do?"

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Cora, a veterinarian is at her clinic taking care of a feral cat and listening to all the noise outside. Cora is listening to all of her neighbors who have turned into zombies. She knows that it is time to leave her little small town if she is going to survive. Just as she is gathering up all of her supplies that she is going to take with her she hears a noise in the other room. Cora is afraid that one or some of the zombies has made it inside somehow. But when she goes to check she sees a man going through her medical supplies. He is the most gorgeous man she has ever laid eyes on.

This gorgeous man is a Sergeant in the United States Army, Jordan Parks. Jordan and his black opps zombie fighting unit were out fighting the zombies and everyone in his unit was killed but him. Jordan was injured during the attack and now Cora is patching him up when zombies burst through the door. Cora and Jordan hide in the supply room and while they are in there they decide to make out. It's not like they have anything better to do while they wait for the zombies to wonder away and right out of the building.

The sparks do start flying real quick like for Cora and Jordan. They realize real quick that they care a whole lot for each other and probably are in love. I know a lot of people will probably think that the romance, sex and the falling in love was real fast but not me I actually do believe in love at first site. It really does happen if you have met your soulmate.

If you like a good romance book and like reading about zombies then you need to give Zombies Don't Make Good Pets a try. Who knows you may just like it, I know I did. I know it was a little fast but hey sometimes so is life. You have to go with the flow on occasion. Sometimes I believe you just know and you wonder how you know.
