Review: The Sword and The Prophet By Missy LaRae

The Sword and The Prophet (#1) Title: The Sword and The Prophet
Author: Missy LaRae
Ebook: 150 pages
Published: March 29th 2012
Published By: Pretty Wycked Designs

Goodreads Synopsis

“Why'd Mama hate us so much, Tyler?" My head rested on his chest and his arms came around me. Tyler looked out across the tracks at the train station as we waited to find a train headin’ north and he sighed. It reverberated in his chest and into my heart."

"I don't know Lilybelle. Can't say why Mama’d love us one day, and hate on us the next. We just gotta find our way outta here and we'll be okay. I won't let nothin' happen to you."

"Twins Lily and Tyler are bound together by a bond forged through an abusive childhood that neither can escape, and a closeness that defies explanation. No matter how far they run, the pain of their mother's abuse will still be there. Choosing to run fast and far from their mother, the twins head to Charleston, South Carolina, but everything is not what it seems, and they soon realize they may be in even more danger."

"Having never been exposed to the light of the moon before, Lily sneaks out and dramatically changes into something that both fascinates and scares her. She has visions of a world she's never heard of, and her body changes over night. Desperate to escape the twins devise a plan, but are thwarted at the last minute."

"With only each other to rely on they've got to embrace who they are, and ultimately, the destiny that has been written for them."

"Set on Earth, and Amatia Prime, The Sword and The Prophet is the first book in a series that will introduce you to a fascinating new species that loves once, loves deep, and fights for who and what they are against any evil. With scarred hearts, Lily and Tyler must learn what it feels like to be truly loved."

My Review

Tyler and Lillybelle are twins who just wants to know why their mother would love them one day and then right out of the blue just stop loving them. One day their mother was very loving and kind. She would sit and hold Lillybelle and brush her hair for hours. Then she started to hit them and scream at them all the time for no real good reason. At the age of fifteen they left their mother's house in search of their Aunt and Uncle on thier fathers side.

When they find their Aunt and Uncle, Tyler and Lillybelle are very relieved. Their Aunt and Uncle are very nice and sweet people. They seem very appalled at the way their mother treated them. But Tyler over hears them talking and finds out that something is wrong, very wrong. He wakes Lillybelle and tells her they have to leave now.

Lillybelle and Tyler set out on their own not knowing where their going or what they are going to do. People are chasing them and they don't know who they are or what they want with them. Why would anyone want to hurt Lillybelle and Tyler? They are a very loving species who love deeply. I loved how their species felt about their mates, how strong their love for one another was. Although Lillybelle and Tyler were brother and sister they still had a very close relationship. Even with just friends they loved with their whole heart.

The Sword and The Prophet is one of those books that is going to stick with me for years to come. One that I can't seem to get out of my head. You know its like when you get a song in your head and keep hearing it over and over and over. That is how this book has been for me. Instead of a song stuck in my head there's a book stuck in my head.

Needless to say I loved how the writer portrayed the characters emotions and feelings. Especially the way that they feel about their mates. It is very well written it flowed along at an extremely fast paced. It left you always wondering what is going to happen next. I can't wait to read the next book The Prophet of Dreams.

On My Wishlist:

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1)

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls #1) by Maggie Stiefvater

Published August 1st 2009 by Scholastic Inc.

Goodreads synopsis:

Grace and Sam share a kinship so close they could be lovers or siblings. But they also share a problem. When the temperature slips towards freezing, Sam reverts to his wolf identity and must retreat into the woods to protect his pack. He worries that eventually his human side will fade away and he will be left howling alone at the lonely moon. A stirring supernatural teen romance.

My Thoughts

I have read some good reviews of Shiver in the blog world. I like reading books about werewolves. I want to know how and when do they turn into a werewolf. Will Sam and Grace fall in love and be together? Will Sam turn into a werewolf forever?

Blog A Quote #2

Blog A Quote is weekly meme hosted by Michelle Chew Writes. Each week we will be sharing a quote from our favorite books. For more info and to sign up visit Michelle Chew Writes.

My quote for this week is from Love Story by Erich Segal

“Love means never having to say you're sorry.”

I have remembered this quote for years, not knowing or remembering where I heard it from. I always believed that this was true because growing up we (My three brothers and I) were not taught to say I'm sorry to anyone for whatever reason. But we always forgave each other without ever saying anything. Some how we just knew when the other one did not mean what ever it was that they had done or said. After teaching myself to say I'm sorry I have realized that yes sometimes you do have to say I'm sorry.

My Recommend for this week:

Marked (House of Night, #1)

Title Marked (House of Night #1) by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast

ebook, 241 pages

Published April 1st 2010 by St. Martin's Press (first published May 1st 2007)

Goodreads  synopsis:
The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampyres have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire--that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

My Thoughts

I just loved reading Marked. It is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. The House Of Night books are the ones that have gotten me hooked on reading about vampires. P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast make all the characters Zoey, Stevie Rae, Aphrodite, Erin, Damien and Shaunee stand out and come alive. They make you wonder if maybe they are real vampires out there in the world somewhere.

Review: Mercy (A Short Story) By Cherie Marks

Photobucket

Charlie an eighteen year who lives inside the walls of the community in the middle of The Dead Forest. Charlie and her little sister was sent there by her mother. When her mother sent her there she sent her in men's clothing which Charlie doesn't understand. The community is surrouned by monsters.

The women are used for breeding. Charlie is dertermind to take very good care of her little sister and never allow this to happen to her. She is very upset that they would allow the women to be used in this way. Charlie comes to understand why her mother sent her there in men's clothing and knows she must protect her idenity for as long as possible.

Mercy is a very short story but at the same time is a very good read. I wished that it had been longer and we could have know more about Charile and her little sister where they came from. What reason did her mother send her there to live this kind of life. Who was her mother? Why did they send them outside the walls? I hope Cherie Marks has more plans for Mercy and we can learn more of Charlie's life and the story that she has to tell.

I love the tv show The Walking Dead so I just know that this will be a very intense read for me. I want to know what the virus is that wipes out most of the world's population. What horrifying fate is waiting Eve when she gradutates?

My quote for this week is from Betrayed by P.C. Cast

“Remember, darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good”.

I just love this quote and have ever since I read it in Betrayed. To me the quote means just because you may not believe the same way as someone else believes, does not make you a bad person. Or in the paranormal world being a vampire or a witch and not a human does not make them a bad person.

Review: Musical Chairs (Sunset High, Book 1) by Marla Braziel

Published March 3rd 2011

I won Musical Chairs in a giveaway on LibraryThing

Musical Chairs is about a girl called Annabel who goes to school at Sunset High. The classes at Sunset High are held at night. Annabel is a vampire that gets to choose one high school student a year to kill. Although this is not the only time she can or needs to feed. When choosing her one kill a year Annabel likes her victims to be someone who has a lot of emotional problems. When Annabel decides on her victim she will change her way of dressing to be more in style with theres to better infiltrate their little groups.

When Annabel first meets Aiden she tries to introduce herself to him but he ignores her. What she doesn't know is that Aiden has a girlfriend, Deblin and she is afraid of losing him. Aiden would not cheat on her but Deblin has some very bad hang ups about herself and does not know this. Annabel finally gets Aiden to let her hang out with him, Deblin and his best friend Bane. Annabel doesn't like Bane because he ask to many questions. But she eventually figures out that the only way to stay in with their little group is to date Bane. This is the only way Deblin will probably ever trust Annabel enough to let her be a part of their group.

I like Musical Chairs because it has a whole new twist on vampires. It keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end. Wait, even at the end you still do not know who her victim is, I guess that is why it is a series.

Have you read Musical Chairs? What did you think? Did you like it?

Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1)

Shatter Me (Shatter Me #1) by Tahereh Mafi

Paperback, 338 pages

Published November 15th 2011 by Harper (first published November 1st 2011)

Goodreads synopsis:

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My Thoughts

Juliette has gone through a lot in her life but it dose not cause her to be a bad person. She never wants to hurt anyone although she has been hurt all her life by someone. It has a lot of twist and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting to keep turning the pages to see what is going to happen next. When reading Shatter Me you feel as if you are seeing and feeling everything that Juliette is feeling and seeing.

What did you recommend? Leave me a comment with a link to your Friday Recommend. I would very much like to see what you recommended. If you are new follower please let me know in comment so that I can return the favor. Thanks for stopping in for a visit.

Review: Witch Island By Victor Pryce

Witch Island

ebook

Published April 2012 by Victor Pryce

I received Witch Island from the author for review.

Jack's father was a sailor who died at sea with scurvy when Jack was only 10. Jack knew that he wanted to be a sailor he had to see for himself all the great stories that his father would tell him about sailing the seas. Jack was only 12 when he got the chance to be a sailor and he took it to help his mother to take care of their family. Jack was thrown from the Britannia during a storm and was the first person on the island. He taught himself how to fish with a spear, he made a hut to live. He found that the island provided most of the things that he could use to survive until he was rescued. I liked Jack the best of all the other characters. He seemed really nice and wanted to help everyone else in the best way that he could.

Simon being of the upper class thought he was better than Jack, never wanting to follow any of Jack's advice which could have made his life on the island a lot easier. He thought he was the leader that he knew more just because he was schooled and Jack probably wasn't. Jack wanted to teach Mary how to fish and to start fires. When he told Simon this he was against it. Mary being the daughter of a governor and had always been waited on by servants all her life. Simon thought that they should wait on her themselves because it would not be proper for her when they returned to their lives. Jack tried to explain to Simon that if something happened to both of them at the same time, Mary would not know to take care of herself. But Simon would not hear of teaching Mary anything. Simon thought that Jack was just being lazy and wanted to put some of his work off on Mary.

Mary was a very nice person and didn't know anything about Jack wanting to teach her how to fish and start fires. Mary wanted to help in any way that she could. When she saw that Simon was not going to allow her to help do any of the hard work she volunteered to sit on the cliff all day and watch for a ship to come by. If she saw a ship she could call for the men to come and set fire to the brush pile to signal the ship. Mary trusted Simon never questioning anything that he said. She always did want she was told without question. Why did she never think for herself and say hey I want to do more to help you guys, to do my share of the work?

When I read the summary of Witch Island I thought well this is not the kind of stories I usually read but it sounded like it would be good so I thought I would give it a chance. I kept putting off reading it for that reason. But then I thought ok go for it so I did and you know what I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. I would have liked to have known more about Jack, Simon and Mary's lives of who they were, who their families were, what kind of life did they live before they were stranded on the island, were they happy? I was sort of disappointed with the ending I never expected it to turn out the way it did. I wish that it would have been different for all of them.

The Goddess Test (Goddess Test #1) by Aimee Carter

Published April 19th 2011 by Harlequin

Goodreads synopsis:

EVERY GIRL WHO HAS TAKEN THE TEST HAS DIED.

NOW IT'S KATE'S TURN.

It's always been just Kate and her mom--and her mother is dying. Her last wish? To move back to her childhood home. So Kate's going to start at a new school with no friends, no other family and the fear that her mother won't live past the fall.

Then she meets Henry. Dark. Tortured. And mesmerizing. He claims to be Hades, god of the Underworld--and if she accepts his bargain, he'll keep her mother alive while Kate tries to pass seven tests.

Kate is sure he's crazy--until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she'll become Henry's future bride and a goddess.

IF SHE FAILS...

My Thoughts

Gods and Goddess? I like learning about Gods and Goddess. I know this will be a fantastic read. Gods and Goddess living in secret among us. Bringing people back from the dead. Will Kate pass the test? Will she live? I can't wait to read The Goddess Test.
