Review: Peak Democracy by G.D. Leon

Peak Democracy
Data is Power #1
by G.D. Leon
Published: October 3, 2017
Genre: Dystopia, Post-Apocalyptic, Science Fiction

Blurb:

In a world where data is power, one man must choose between corporate success and the fight for freedom…

August Remules is a rising star in the mega-conglomerate that houses nearly all of the world’s data. While his years in IT have taught him not to ask too many questions, a fateful interview could take him all the way to the top of the corporate ladder… or send his family crashing down.

Niklas Soderstrom has worked with August for years, but he has far less trust in a system rigged for those at the top. When his friend ventures into the heart of the corporate jungle, Niklas realizes his influence on the data that drives society could turn the tide in a growing resistance…

August’s new position of power seems too good to be true, but it also puts him at odds with Niklas and the people he loves the most. August and Niklas have no choice but to summon their courage to save their friends, their family, and the system that keeps civilization alive…

Peak Democracy is the first book in a fast-paced near-future dystopian trilogy. If you like corporate drama, nuanced characters, and future worlds crafted from current socio-political issues, then you’ll love G.D. Leon’s eye-opening trilogy.

My Review:

Peak Democracy is set in the near future and is about a man that is on his way to the top. He works for a company that holds almost all of the world’s data a company called The Holding. Almost everyone is in debt with The Holding. Almost everyone owes money and will be in debt all their lives. When they borrow the money they give up their freedom to these companies.

The companies know everything there is to know about them and they listen in on all conversations or at least they can if they choose to do so. Different groups/cells are forming to prepare people to fight for their freedom and to hopefully one day take their lives back from The Holding.

One man August Remules works for The Holding and is offered a new job in the company he would like to refuse as it will cause him to have travel and be away from his family. This new job would pay more and hopefully August could have his family out of debt before he retires. August knows he can’t refuse the job as it could cost him more than he is willing to pay like his family. What will August do? Will he take the job? Does he really have a choice?

Peak Democracy is filled with lots of suspense that will keep you hanging on trying to figure out where the characters are going to take you next. It is so very intriguing with all the technology. I can’t wait to check out the rest of the series to see where the characters take us next in the world of Data is Power. Peak Democracy left me hanging for more waiting for the next book in the Data is Power, Manhunt: The Power to Restore Civilization.

I would recommend Peak Democracy to anyone who likes to read about future worlds, corporations and technology.

Review: The Seer's Fate by Christine Amsden @ChristineAmsden

The Seer’s Fate
A novella by: Christine Amsden

She can see the future, but she can’t escape it…

Danielle Hastings has lived countless possible futures, and getting involved with Adam Scot always ends in heartbreak. The gift of foresight has led her to one solid conclusion: avoid Adam at all costs. But when she sees a tornado tearing through downtown Eagle Rock – and Adam helping her save dozens of lives – she knows she has no choice.

Adam lives a charmed life; thanks to his powerful gift of charisma, everyone has a hard time saying no to him. Everyone, that is, except Danielle. Adam is determined to break through her shell…until he finds out the real reason she’s avoiding him. But by the time he realizes there’s no hope for a future for them, he’s in too deep to back out.

It seems there’s only one question the fates haven’t already answered: Will he break her heart, or will she break his?

My Review:

Danielle Hastings can see the future. She has lived many, many future lives. She sees the future over and over again with many different outcomes. There is a tornado heading for Eagle Rock and Danielle has lived through this tornado more than once each one with different endings trying to find the one where she can keep anyone from dying.

Danielle has this thing for Adam a guy who can charm anyone into doing whatever he wants. Danielle keeps seeing them together but in each future she sees Adam leaves her for one reason or another. Danielle is not ready to get her heart broke so she avoids Adam at all cost. Adam cares for Danielle very much and is always trying to come up with ways to get her attention.

Danielle tells Adam about the tornado coming to Eagle Rock and asks for his help to persuade the people of the town that the tornado is coming and to take cover. Danielle is so afraid of getting her heart broken that she is unwilling to give Adam the benefit of the doubt to give life a chance. If she would just give the two of them a chance and try real hard maybe they can change their own futures, destinies.

I have truly enjoyed reading this novella with other characters from the Cassie Scot novels. I have read all the Cassie Scot novels and loved all of them as well. I really loved getting inside the heads of other characters and getting to know them more about who they are and their magic. I can’t wait to explore more of the Cassie Scot worlds.

I would highly recommend The Seer’s Fate and the Cassie Scot novels to all fans of the magical and paranormal world.

About the Author

Christine Amsden has been writing fantasy and science fiction for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and relationships, and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.
At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, which scars the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams.
Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. In addition to being a writer, she's a mom and freelance editor.
