GENRE: Urban Fantasy
BLURB:
Adair Finch, the most powerful warlock in the world, is back in business!
But first he must complete his pact with a mischief spirit by finding her a human body. Seemingly no easy task, as the mischief spirit is beyond picky about her future body. But on his way to Oakland, Finch stumbles upon the dead body of a social media star—both a solution and a major problem.
Oakland is teeming with werewolves, full moon witches, vampires, and redwood elves, most of whom aren’t on good terms with Finch. Navigating the supernatural world to gather clues about the murder is hard enough, but now Finch must also dodge old enemies and rivals. And to make matters worse, the murderer just might be trailing Finch, now that he’s found the body.
Good thing Finch has a pact with Chronos. With time on his side, perhaps he can do the impossible…

Excerpt:
The apartment was a cavern of chaos.
Piles of newspapers and magazines created extra walls in the already tiny space. Broken appliances, stacks of chairs, and fourteen coffee tables had been hoarded with the frantic energy of a mind seeking solace in things rather than thoughts.
As Enzo went into the living room, he flashed his light over a mattress that had been gutted for its meager contents. Nearby, the hollowed-out television sets and dismantled radios spoke of a desperation that was not confined to collecting but extended into destruction.
Whoever had lived here—or did live here—was not well in the head.
“Stay vigilant,” Finch whispered.
Enzo darkly chuckled. “And here I was just getting comfortable.”
Andre braved the rubbish and sniffed the air. He pointed to a door. “There.”
They all kept close as they walked over yellowed papers, fast food wrappers, and a dozen toilet seat lids. When Enzo opened the door, he held his breath.
An overpowering wall of rot and decay washed over Finch. He couldn’t breathe. He shook his head, held his breath, and stepped inside.
It had once been a master bedroom.
Now it was a graveyard.
Finch only glanced around the room for a moment, but he counted seven bodies. They were all men, their corpses shoved up against the wall like a pile of dirty laundry. When Finch took a second look, he noted some were more decayed than others.
But they all had the same injuries. Their faces had been torn open and ripped apart, to the point there was no skin left.
Each of the bodies had holes in their stomachs, with all their insides missing. No other parts of their body seemed harmed, except for what the maggots had done in order to drill out of their hosts.
All of them were still fully clothed, though their shirts were pulled up to expose the hole in their guts. Two of them wore suits, one wore a casual T-shirt and shorts, and the others were so rotted and decaying, it was difficult to make out their outfits. Finch couldn’t see any similarities between them, other than the fact they were men.
The faces, though—they had been clawed off so thoroughly, the skulls were damaged.
Kull stepped in, and then immediately jumped back out of the room. “Oh, no.”
My Review:
I enjoyed reading Chronos Warlock, the second book in Shami Stovall's The Chronos Chronicles. I love all the characters, especially Finch and Kull, and their attitudes and ways of speaking. I also love the world created for this wonderful series.
Finch is lost deep in his own world; he is still grieving the loss of his brother, who died over ten years ago. But he has a commitment to fulfill: he promised Kull he would help find her a human body. Finch and Kull come across the body of a very famous influencer.
Kull is very excited, as this is the body she wants to inhabit. She likes the idea of being famous and having a nice body. But Finch tries to talk her out of it without much success. Finch is worried that if Fox-Pistol had been murdered, the person who killed her would try to kill Kull again if they saw that she was still walking around.
Finch has a lot on his plate at the moment; not only is he now looking for a killer, but he also has a job to find a man’s wife who has gone missing. The man believes his wife is cheating on him, but is she? With all the murders that are happening, what if his wife is hiding from the murderer?
The mystery and suspense alone are enough to keep the pages turning. But luckily, we have Finch and Kull to help keep me racing to the end. Oh, and not to mention the rewinding time thing, the werewolves, witches, and the fae all living in the same world together. I can’t wait to read more in this wonderful series that I can’t seem to get enough of.
I enjoyed reading Chronos Warlock so much that I highly recommend it to all fantasy and mystery fans! Grab a copy of Chronos Warlock today!
