Burned picks up where Tempted left off with Zoey’s soul shattering because she saw Kalona kill Health. Zoey goes to the Otherworld and finds Health there. The council tells Aphrodite and the “nerd herd” that if Zoey’s soul remains in the Otherworld a week she will die. The return of a shattered soul is unheard of. Neferet not wanting to take the chance that Zoey will return sends Kalona to the Otherworld to kill her.

Kramisha's prophecy tells them that they have to take Zoey’s body to the Ilse of Sgiach. Stark is going to the Otherworld to bring Zoey back. To get to the Otherworld he has to come close to death. He does this with the help of the vampire queens Guardian. When Stark arrives in the Otherworld he has to fight and kill his warrior self to become the shaman so that he can find Zoey.

When Stark reaches the grove where Zoey and Health are he waits until he can talk to Health alone. The Goddess Nyx tells him he has to convince Health to move on or Zoey will never pull her soul back together. Health does not want to leave Zoey. But his love for Zoey is so powerful that he puts himself aside to do what is best for Zoey and moves on.

Stark fights with Kalona because he know that this is the only way to get Zoey to pull her soul back together and move on. He knows that there is no way Zoey will let Kalona kill another one of her friends. Before she can put her soul back together Kalona kills Stark. Zoey attacks Kalona and overtakes him and demands that he give Stark his life back. The Goddess Nyx appears and orders Kalona to bring Stark back to life. Zoey lets Stark feed from her so that he can heal. She accepts Stark as her Guardian and she follows spirit back to her body. Upon returning she sees that Stark has not returned so she helps him to return to his body.

Mean while back in the real world Stevie Rae tries to help find a way for Stark to reach Zoey in the Otherworld by calling forth the white bull. Stevie Rae does not know that the white bull is darkness. The white bull gives her a poem to help Stark and payment for the poem is her pain and blood. The Raven Mocker feels, knows that Stevie Rae is in serious trouble and goes to her. He offers himself to the white bull to save Stevie Rae and she calls the black bull to save them.

Stevie Rae tries to break her imprint with the Raven Mocker by imprinting with Dallas but before they can imprint he shows up to stop them. When Dallas finds out about their bond he lets darkness over take him and becomes the third red vampyre. When Zoey returns to her body Kalona also returns to his and the Goddess reveals this to Stevie Rae and the Raven Mocker. The Raven Mocker leaves Stevie Rae to go be with his father, Kalona.

Burned is about the good and evil we all have inside of us. Doing the right thing no mater what it may do to us. But their is still times when we let our dark side show through. Burned shows us that we should always be on the side of good. Live our lives so that we can lay down at night and close our eyes and go the sleep.
