Haunted by visions of the execution of an innocent man, Evey discovers that the secrets of her past and a mysterious stranger are irrevocably intertwined.
Visions of decapitated corpses, pools of blood, and a masked executioner have haunted Evey for as long as she can remember. Torn between a life in the waking world and dreams of the dead, she realizes her normal existence is nothing more than an illusion. As the veil between reality and her subconscious dissipates, she begins to question her own sanity. Each night as she closes her eyes, she wonders what wrongs she committed to warrant such a curse.
When a handsome stranger suddenly appears in Evey’s life, he is able to provide her with the answers she seeks. However, the only thing more mystifying than Conrad’s appearance in one of her nightmares is the undeniable attraction she feels for him. It is only when he confesses their fates and souls have been intertwined for centuries that an ancient secret is revealed. Now, the two of them must outrun a great darkness or it will claim their lives again.
Interview with A.P. Watson
What inspired you to write Seeds of Eden?
The
first real inspiration I had for Seeds of Eden was this thought of a young,
high school student sitting in her history class. Her teacher instructs the
class to open their textbooks to the section they will be studying that day,
and when this girl opens her book, she sees a picture of a queen who looks
exactly like her. Of course, the girl is stunned, because it's not every day
you open a history book and discover a ruler who could be your identical twin.
This book has grown so much from my initial idea, but this was the first jolt
of inspiration I had for Evey's story.
Can you
tell us a little bit about the next books in The Concilium Series or what you
have planned for the future?
Seeds
of Eden is the first installment in my trilogy entitled, The Concilium Series.
The second installment is titled, A Fallen Son, and the third novel in the
series is The Final Temptation. The second book will be told from two different
perspectives, which has been really challenging and exciting to write. Readers
will get to see the progression of the plot from both of the perspectives, so
it's interesting to see how the actions of one character affect the other. I like
to incorporate a lot of historical elements and events from history into my
writing, and both A Fallen Son and The Final Temptation will incorporate a bit
of history as well. I'm also planning on writing four companion novellas to
accompany the series. Each novella will be told from a different character's
perspective. Some of these will follow characters that aren't very prominent in
the story, but still have interesting and diverse tales to tell.
Can you
tell us a little bit about the characters in Seeds of Eden?
Seeds
of Eden is told from Evey's perspective. She is the heroine of the story and
she is a high school student living in an extremely small town in Tennessee.
She lives a pretty ordinary life until she meets a new student at her school,
Conrad. From the moment they first lay eyes on one another, there is an
undeniable attraction between them. Not to mention, Evey has been plagued with
horrific nightmares from the time she was a small girl. Her latest nightmare
has her begging and pleading with a merciless king to spare the life of one of
his prisoners. The only problem is, the prisoner she tries so desperately to
save looks exactly like Conrad.
Caroline,
Evey's best friend, is a source of support and a shoulder for Evey to cry on
throughout the story. Caroline is everything a best friend should be, sassy,
blunt, and one heck of a bad ass. Caroline adapts to the intense and crazy
situations she and Evey are thrust into with grace and an ever challenging wit.
And even though her moral compass doesn't exactly point due north, she still
has Evey's back no matter what.
Conrad
is the new student Evey encounters on the first day of school. He is
mysterious, slightly cocky, yet completely charming. An instant hit at her
small town high school, Conrad walks into Evey's life and turns her world
upside down. Though, there is much more to Conrad than meets the eye. Despite
his handsome face, pain and heartache lurk in the depths of his bright blue
eyes, and when Evey discovers their paths are destined to cross, she soon
realizes Conrad will change her forever.
You know I think we all have a
favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
Trying
to choose a favorite author is like trying to choose my favorite band. I have
several favorites, and it's impossible for me to pick just one. I'd rather rip
my heart out than choose one author to be my favorite. I read books from every
genre, and am a fan of a great story. I absolutely adore Jane Austen. The
complex yet flawed female characters she writes speak to my soul, and I love
the way she incorporates clashes between different social classes into her
stories. I also grew up reading Harry Potter and love J.K. Rowling's ability to
craft such an intricate and complicated universe. She is truly a master of
character development and story building. I also really enjoy reading
stories by Charlaine Harris and Sarah J. Maas as well.
If you could time-travel would you
travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you
like to visit this particular time period?
If
I could travel to the past or the future, I’d definitely time-travel to the
past so I could experience the Renaissance first hand. It was a period where
culture took a huge leap forward and advances were made in science, math, art,
literature, and architecture. I especially love art, and so many great artists
emerged during this time, such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, Titian, and one of
my absolute favorite artists, Leonardo da Vinci. Honestly, Leonardo da Vinci is
the main reason I'd love to visit the Renaissance era. He was a painter,
sculptor, mathematician, architect, and an incredible inventor. His
accomplishments have been revered for centuries, and with such works under his
belt like The Last Supper, Mona Lisa, The Vitruvian Man, and Virgin on the
Rocks, it's not hard to imagine why. He is one of the most talented individuals
in history and if time-travel were possible, I wouldn't be able to pass up the
chance to meet him.
Do you have any little fuzzy
friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I
have a dog and her name is Elle (Yes, she is named after Elle Woods from
Legally Blonde). She is thirteen pounds of pure love and I can't believe she is
turning 10 this fall! She is my constant writing companion, because she loves
to lie across my lap while I'm writing. My love for her may teeter on the edge
of obsession (she has her own Instagram account), but who am I to deny the
world such cuteness?
Thanks for taking time out of your
busy schedule to visit with us today.
Thank
you Nancy for allowing me to pay a little visit to your blog!
