The Gathering
Bernadette Giacomazzo
(The Uprising, #1)
Publication date: March 31st 2018
Genres: Adult, Dystopian

The Uprising Series tells the story of three freedom fighters and their friends in high — and low — places that come together to overthrow a vainglorious Emperor and his militaristic Cabal to restore the city, and the way of life, they once knew and loved.

In The Gathering, Jamie Ryan has defected from the Cabal and has joined his former brothers-in-arms — Basile Perrinault and Kanoa Shinomura — to form a collective known as The Uprising. When an explosion leads to him crossing paths with Evanora Cunningham — a product of Jamie’s past — he discovers that The Uprising is bigger, and more important, than he thought.

My Review:

Three freedom fighters from three different walks of life come together to try and overthrow the Emperor and his way of life. The leader of the country is no longer elected as an Emperor rule for life.

When the Emperor came to be the leader he made up his own rules and how things were to be done. He puts himself above everyone else including his own family.

No rules are to be broken and if they are then that person is severely punished as the Emperor sees fit as there are neither jails nor lawyers to state your case.

A ball is being held in the honor of the Emperor’s step-daughter, the Princess, Evanora, at the ball she is to pick a husband but before she can pick her husband to be an explosion is set off causing chaos while she is dancing with one of the Emperor’s soldiers Tommy. Tommy whisk Evanora away to safety into the hands of her father’s old rock band members. Who just happen to be a part of The Uprising.

They inform Evanora about The Uprising and what they have planned. The Uprising is a group of people who have come together to try and overthrow the Emperor and his rule. They want life to go back to the way it was or at least change the way it is now.

The Gathering is a very fast read that will catch your attention from the first and will keep you entertained right up until the end. There is enough action to keep you glued to the pages not wanting to put it down. The world building is just awesome and will blow you away at times. The Gathering is a great introduction into the world of The Uprising.

I would recommend The Gathering to all fans of dystopian and science fiction as I can’t wait to check out more from The Uprising series.
