Blurb:

Something evil has taken root in Ashland, Oregon. And with it, an uneasy feeling sweeps down on Detective Winston Radhauser. If someone doesn’t intervene, that evil will continue to multiply until the unthinkable happens.

While on vacation with his wife and their newborn son, Detective Radhauser receives a call from Captain Murphy--a high school kid has been branded with a homophobic slur and is hospitalized in Ashland, a small town known for, and proud of, its diversity. And this is only the beginning. White supremacy, homophobia and racism are one thing. But murder is something else.

Radhauser will do whatever it takes to find the perpetrators and restore his town’s sense of safety. With such hostile opposition, can he succeed, and will justice be done?

My Review:

Our favorite detective Winston Radhauser is back and solving more crimes in Arizona, OR. Radhauser is a very kind and good hearted man. When he walks into a crime scene he lets the scene and the bodies tell their own story. He takes the time to look at each little minuscule detail. Each crime scene has a story to tell and Radhauser reads each and every crime scene like a story or book.

River of Shame is about racism, white supremacy, and homophobia. It is about high school kids being branded with homophobic slurs and murder.

A teen close and dear to Radhauser’s heart is murdered in Radhauser’s barn. Hunter was a young man with a heart of gold who helped his mother take care of his little sister.

A young girl Hunter’s girlfriend is found dead in the park on the night of Hunter’s memorial. Michelle was girl very much in love with Hunter. Did she know too much? Who murder Michelle? Who murdered Hunter? Did the same person who killed Michelle kill Hunter? A crime Radhauser was very determined to solve.

Two high school students Logan and Amy who are best friends are branded with Homophobic slurs. A brand that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives of the hate and evil from another human being just for being who they are and for who they love.

I don’t know how anyone could have so much evil and hate in their hearts to do something so evil to another human. I don’t know what is going through their minds but you know what I don’t ever want to know because if I did wouldn’t that make me just like them?

I think you should love someone for what is in their hearts and the kind of person they are; not hate them because of whom they love or the color of their skin. A character in the book said “We are one”. I have been saying this for a long time and I truly believe it. I first heard this from my husband who is a good person with a kind heart.

River of Shame is the fourth book in the Winston Radhauser mystery series. I have read each and every one of the Winston Radhauser mysteries and highly recommend each one. They are each and every one brilliantly written. Each one will have your emotions all over the place. Each one will have you guessing whodunit and then guessing some more.

If you like a good mystery then please give River of Shame a chance along with Redemption Lake, When Time is a River and A River of Silence. Susan has more great books like A Bend in the River and Tormented that you need to give a try as well. Trust me you won’t be disappointed I know I wasn’t.
Susan is one of those writers where you don’t have to read the summary to know it will be a great read. Pick up one of her books today and start an amazing journey of mystery and suspense.
