Life today is scary, complicated, and hard to get right. So much conflicting information is at our fingertips, and society shows the results of everyone choosing their own version of "good."

This year-long daily devotional doesn't just talk about God; it takes us directly to God and His inspired words in the Bible. Many think the Bible is archaic and out of touch with life today. But you will discover in these devotionals that the Bible is a great read, full of real people in real time navigating real situations.

The Bible uncovers God's heart for us. He has given us tools and strength for our lives today. The Bible reveals God's patience and perspective. Most importantly, it leads us to Jesus, God's Son, and the plan that reconciled broken, imperfect people to God. Because Jesus paid the penalty for our wrong choices, we can live confidently-loved, empowered, and forgiven by God. Life today is scary, complicated, and hard to get right. So much conflicting information is at our fingertips, and society shows the results of everyone choosing their own version of "good."

Interview with Tricia Kirchmeyer

How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

In my 20’s, as I encountered some difficult situations, I turned to God and my faith in Him to empower me to get through it all. I started reading the Bible, as opposed to just listening to preaching. And I was hooked! Absolutely every part of life is covered in the Bible, and I saw God’s love for me as well as His character revealed.

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

My strongest goal has been to help my readers understand that the Bible is a great read! And that it isn’t archaic religion, but instead it reveals our real God’s relationship with people. And these people were just ever day real individuals who were successful and also made huge mistakes. I want people to start reading the Bible on their own. That will enable them to thrive in this very hard life, as well as to recognize if someone’s teaching is counter to what the Bible says.

All of that, of course, points to Jesus. I want people to know Jesus as their savior.

This book is Bible-centric, and I think I’ve accomplished my goal pretty well.

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

Carving out huge chunks of time to study and write. When I first started writing, I worked full time and had two of my three kids still at home.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I loved learning! About it all! Connecting the Old Testament with the New Testament, discovering the absolute depth of God’s love for us all, how many chances He is willing to give to us, all of it! And to finally get that those people in the Bible were as ordinary as me, but extraordinary when they dared to trust God for the next step, then the next one!

Where there alternate endings you considered?

No! I always knew I wanted the last page to clearly lead the path to Jesus. Believe He is God’s Son, who took our sin on Himself and paid our penalty on the cross; then rose from the grave, to live forever. All because He loves us. Then to give Him control of our life. Our Savior and our Lord!

Can you share some stories about people you met while researching this book?

I called and emailed numerous pastors across the country for their insights on some of the weeks in Seasons Under the Juniper Tree. Some I was able to see personally. I talked to friends that went to my church and other denominations to find out what they’d been taught about certain things.

The people who responded to me were so kind and informative; and some even said they had not given certain stories any thought before I asked about them. I loved the fact that they were willing to discuss differing opinions with me. I found that I was never dismissed because I was a woman, which is a common criticism of the church.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

I love reading! Christian and Secular Historical & modern Fiction, Thrillers, Biographies, Memoirs, Devotionals, and Self-Help are my favorites. And let’s not forget the Bible!
