Author Interview: Jack Canon's Women of the House By Greg Sandora @VBTCafe

I'm originally from the Portland, Maine area and lived and worked there for years before moving to Southwest Florida. I am currently working on the sequel to Jack Canon's American Destiny - which will be titled Jack Canon Clean Sweep. The sequel will be available in about three months.

My Dad and Mom were artists, my father painted and my mother wrote poetry and loved to garden. Most Saturdays we loaded up the 1970 Chevy Impala to trek to a one man show somewhere or other. I took a different track graduating with a business degree; owning and operating an Award Winning Franchise Fitness Center. Currently a professional manager I am living in Florida with my beautiful wife and children, and following my passion.

Some of my other projects include a children's book called Sammy the Sea Turtle - about an infant sea turtle taken from his nest the night he was to find his way to the sea. Sammy lives with the family until their son - the boy who took him, graduates from high school. On that day Sammy, backpack in tow - begins the long journey home.
My second project in the works involves angels - a man during a visit to Bar Harbor Maine encounters an angel; quite accidentally, he is told - she was not supposed to make him aware of her existence. Only three others have ever seen the real thing. Naturally he falls hopelessly in love with the beautiful creature.

"Guys, would you excuse me for a moment. Daphne teased biting her lower lip in an adorable half smile. Jack, I've got something to show you." Her voiced pitched as she trained her pretty eyes toward mine anticipating my reaction.
"Nice, Honey. While you're out there…tell the V.P.-we'll meet with her on Monday."
"Are you sure, Jack?" Locking eyes, "Your Mondays are always so full?"
"Sweetie, just fit her in the best you can-between something else - we might as well get it over with. Ten minutes tops."
Daphne leaned into my side to whisper, "Okay, I'll be right back," I couldn't see them, but I imagined her raising her perfectly brushed brows. She leaned in closer, her pretty voice got softer, "With a surprise - I'm just dying to show you the dress I bought for the wedding." Her breasts and tummy pressed against my arm as she tenderly whispered the words.
"How's that a surprise if you told him?" Alyson asked freshly. "I heard you."
Daphne was generous with her touch and rubbed into me. I've never met a girl more comfortable in her own skin. Placing one hand firmly on my leg, she squeezed, delicately leaving the chair, before performing her usual sexy slink toward the door. This girl couldn't help being beautiful!
Alone together, Alyson piped up, "That's why woman hate her, Jack." She added shaking her head gently against my chest, "That walk - it's like she's always trying to turn you on. Every minute she's around you - she never let's up. She's so competitive - do you see it? And,-that voice - nobody talks like that!"
I put both arms around Alyson and held tighter to reassure her, "Honey, - this job would kill me if I didn't have you girls to take the edge off." She seemed satisfied to hear me excuse Daphne's sultry antics. We sat quietly a moment before she started fidgeting with the ends of her dress.
"I'm sorry, Jack - you must think I'm just as bad the way my dress is riding up. It's so short to begin with - I wore it for you."
"Don't ever worry about me, - you're a wonderful distraction."
"You know what - the heck with it then, I'll just let it ride up so you can see the tops of my thighs." She giggled.
"They're beautiful. I just don't want to take advantage of you."
Alyson snuggled closer, getting more comfortable, "Really, Jack? It's my body and I want you to see it. For that matter these are my lips," I felt a trace of lip-gloss, scented cherry.
"My mouth wanted to kiss you."
"Yeah?" I said a bit too softly, wishing I'd said it in a deeper tone. Rubbing her arms, feeling tender towards her. "It's sort of funny, your body does whatever it wants."
She giggled and smiled, "I guess."
"Okay, I'm good, Sweetie."
"Hey, Jack? What ever happened to Elsa?" Changing the subject.
"Elsa? We located her shoes. We found them in a Greek brothel. The girl that had them told our crew Elsa was auctioned off to a Saudi Sheik."
"Oh my God." Alyson covered her mouth.
"No, that's good news because chances are she'll still be alive when we go get her."
"You're going after her?"
"We sure are. Tip has your dad training on weapons and systems right now. It's going to take him a few days to get him back up to speed. He's been out of commission for a while, but as soon as he is ready he's heading over there to rescue her."
"Jack, do you think the sheik will just hand her over?"
"No, it's going to be messy, we'll have to wreck the place, but we're sending a message. The only thing that matters is that Elsa will be coming home. And, girls like her will be safe. We're going to stop human slavery once and for all."
"What about in the U.S., Jack?"
"Here it's a different story - we need to beef up law enforcement. We already have the means to stop trafficking, but it's been allowed to go on."
"Why?" Alyson asked in disbelief.
"Tip would be angry for me telling you - for your own sake, Sweetheart-you really don't want to know…" Just as I was about to spill it-Daphne saved me from having to explain any further. Sauntering in wearing a peach form fitting tube dress-flattering her knock out figure to lengths I hadn't ever allowed my mind to go. All-over- glitter silver stilettos shining over glossy black platforms gave her a statuesque long-legged appearance. She made her way toward me stopping short in the middle of the room. Daphne had a way of making love with her eyes.

Author Interview

What inspired you to write Jack Canon's Women of the House?

I wrote Jack Canon's American Destiny, about a man who wanted to be President of the United States not matter what it took to right the wrongs in America. It's a no holds barred - do whatever it takes story of intense passions. Think the Romance and Innocence of Camelot matched with the Crime and passion of the Godfather. Imagine things getting so bad during a campaign that you have to assassinate a sitting President and you'll start to see what it's about. Well for Women of the House, the story continues...Jack and his crew must fight corruption at the highest levels of government...all while keeping their own secrets. Jack Canon's Women of the House allowed me to delve deeper into the romantic side of Jack and the women that surround him. He's managed to attract some of the most beautiful, intelligent women on the planet to help him.

When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Believe it or not, I've wanted to write a book since grade school. My mother loved to write poems and short prose and was an avid reader that taught me a love for books. I thought it would be a tremendous accomplishment to have my own book.

What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

It was a little Golden Book, I had a set that my mom would read us a bedtime.

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

I read mostly spiritual books nowadays. Before that it was self-help, anything to learn how to get on in this crazy world of ours.

What is your favorite book?

Return to Love, Maryanne Williamson. We used to rent a camp for two weeks every summer with our best friends. We both had kids and relatives, it always was a wonderful party. Oprah had on all the best one full week, Chopra, Dyer, Maryanne. I love to read them all. I just read Dr. Wayne Dyer's book on the Tao, it like everything he's written is amazing.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

Wayne Dyer, he's written some amazing stuff. I also listen to his tapes on the way to work.

If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

I love time travel, my most recent book, Gabby, Angel of God involves a little of it. I would go back to the Colonies, see America at its inception. I love reading about the Founding Fathers, I believe it took amazing courage to leave English rule.

When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

It's both a joy and difficult. I love writing, but after the editing is the difficult part - then you have to ask people to read you, promotion is the most difficult part.

Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

I have a Boston Terrier named Sophie, she is the love of our lives. My wife and I say that love bounces off of her onto everyone in the room. We love that dog.

What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Lately, with my daughters wedding coming up we have been eating very strict. I was walking through Publix, a Florida supermarket, we moved from icy Maine, nine years ago, and had the craving for a flat-bread pizza. I'm Italian, so Gluten Free is definitely out of the question.

Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

Write your truth, every word I write comes from the heart, unfiltered. It's mostly fantasy, but they're stories that well up from inside me. You're unique and if you write from that, what gets onto the page will be great. Then find a couple of good editors to help find the typos and grammatical errors. I never wanted to pay close attention to my grade school teachers, and would daydream out the window, usually about what I was going to do after school. Had I known I'd end up writing, then I would have understood the importance. I've had to learn on the job, and thank God, I've had some wonderful teachers show up.

Forgetting who you are, your ambitions, your lover is crippling. Remembering, embracing your purpose with a new sense of determination is more than empowering. It's soul seizing. Charlie Myers is embarking on a life-altering path that will cause the damned to humble in silence…

One night, just a few friends how could it go so wrong? That was the question Charlie was asking herself when she awoke in the ER. Outwardly nothing was wrong with Charlie, she was a vision of perfect health, but Charlie knew something else was wrong, wickedly wrong. That fearful notion became even more gripping when her mind began to parade haunting visions of entrancing emerald green eyes, laced in black, before her. When she felt a hole in her heart, when the music she drowned her fears in began to amplify the ache in her soul, and caused her to crave an embrace she thought she never knew.

Charlie knew then that part of her was stolen. She was missing memories. Those memories were sacred. They held the key to her sanity. They told her that the sinister whispers, and the shadows that came to life before her, were not as ominous as she felt they were. They caused her to forget the one talent that allowed her to face the darkness that haunted her every waking hour. They also masked a much deeper bond, the face of the one that had stolen her heart, long before that tragically blinding night.

Charlie wanted to stay in NY, fight her demons where she found them, and ensure that her true home remained a sanctuary. Fate had a different plan in mind. Against her will, Charlie was sent to Salem to live with her sister. Within that small town Charlie found her memories…and so much more.
Her story begins now.

EXCERPT

"What's going on?" I asked nervously, hitting 'Pause' on my phone as I watched him push the seat back so his legs could have more room.
"I told you I'd tell you how to get back," he said, smiling faintly.
Every part of me was tingling. Yet, I was frozen in place. I had no idea how I was going to focus well enough to drive.
What would I do if I had to fight these shadows in front of him? I was horrified.
"Yeah, but I thought you meant follow you," I said, trying to take in a breath after I said the words.
"I wanted to ride with you," he said, pulling his belt on.
As he leaned closer to me to fasten it, I could smell the addictive aroma of his cologne. I knew that scent. My mind was firing off images of him at warp speed. His scent, his eyes, his energy, every ounce of him was magnifying fantasies I could not comprehend in the state I was in.
"Just for the record, you're only my second passenger. Third, if you count my teacher," I said, putting the car in drive.
"Duly noted."
I caught myself staring into his enchanting eyes. His dark lashes framed the most alluring color I'd ever seen. It was like they were intended to be black, but a shade of the most perfect green had shattered the black canvas that they were.
Eyes that had haunted me for days...
He stared back at me with almost the same wonder, then he quirked a slight grin. "That way," he said, pointing to the left.
Obviously I was alone in my fascination. Surely if we were anything like my minds eye was telling me we were in some forgotten past he would have said something.
Unless. Unless it was a bad past.
The tinge of pain in my heart let that dark thought enter my mind.
I felt my cheeks flush with embarrassment. I tried to smile through it as I turned the wheel. I crept down the gravel driveway, fighting the glare of the headlights coming from his Hummer. Just before I reached the road, he reached up and moved my rearview mirror, taking the torture of the lights away. He then gently grasped my ear buds and pulled them out. His warm fingertips brushed against my skin, and it took everything I had not to faint. I thought I heard him sigh, just after he took in a deep breath. Those long fingertips of his lingered a little longer, more than likely a second or two, but it felt like hours, then they slid down my neck taking the cords from my ear buds with them.
I angled my eyes at him to see if I had the same effect on him that he clearly had on me.
"You have to be able to see and hear if you're going to get us home," he explained, relaxing into his seat. He bit his bottom lip as he bathed me in his smoldering gaze. We said a thousand words at that moment. Words I could not hear, but wanted to.

Meet the brave and fearless Visola; a woman unlike any you've ever encountered. Her wit and humor take her through the darkest of dangers with a smile always on her face--and her smile only grows larger as the odds become more impossible. With no concern for her own safety, Visola dives headfirst into the throes of battle to protect the people and country she loves, even if it means facing her worst enemy--the one man who can get inside her head and break her down like no other: her own husband...

There is no divorce in the undersea kingdom of Adlivun. Marriage is a bond that lasts until death--even if death comes in several centuries, and in that time your spouse happens to become your sworn enemy. This is the conflict that General Visola Ramaris faces when she learns that the mighty Vachlan is behind the attacks on her kingdom. She has sworn to protect Adlivun with her life, but long ago, she also swore to love and honor her husband...
Visola must choose whether she will destroy Vachlan once and for all, or attempt the hardest thing conceivable: communication. After two hundred years of desertion, she knows she can never forgive him. When he threatens the person dearest to her, she must take action. Confronting Vachlan on enemy territory would be nothing short of suicide. She knows that if she falls into his custody, the deranged mercenary would relish torturing her and making her lose her own sanity.
Princess Aazuria forbids Visola from taking matters into her own hands. She will do anything it takes to protect her friend from the man who wants to crush her. Alas, Visola is a crazy, uncontrollable warrior with the blood of Vikings in her veins. Why would she ever consider doing the safe and predictable thing?

EXCERPT

When Aazuria entered the room, her eyes were immediately drawn to Visola's wild red hair, which had recently been a lustrous mass of audacious curls. Now, her hair was limp. It hung against her head flat, frizzy and defeated. Aazuria's eyes darted to the warrior's sunken cheekbones and gaunt face. She saw the bruises on Visola's neck before her eyes traveled further to the withered, wasted limbs. Every visible part of her friend's body was covered in fresh scars. She saw the bandaged hands. Visola had been starved and tortured.

Perhaps in these modern times, even under the surface of the sea, kings, queens, and the aristocracy had close to zero significance. Perhaps the words and decrees which left Aazuria's mouth would have minimal consequences. No one in the throne room felt this way as they awaited Aazuria's judgment with bated breath. Sionna was standing aside, with her arms crossed. The newly-crowned queen gripped her husband's sword tightly in her fist as Trevain and Elandria entered the room behind her.

Aazuria shifted her eyes to the man standing beside her friend. Her face was expressionless.

"Approach me, Vachlan," she whispered.

The man began walking toward her. Although his stride was dignified, there was hesitation on his face. Visola began speaking, pleading words which Aazuria could not hear over the sound of her heart pounding in her ears.

When Vachlan was close enough to strike, Aazuria gazed at him with death in her eyes.

"Kneel," she commanded him. Her chest was rising and falling perceptibly.

Vachlan knew that this would be a very unwise thing to do, but he owed it to Aazuria. He owed it to Visola, and to Adlivun-the nation he had once called home.  He lowered his head and dropped to one knee before the queen, saluting her across his chest. His eyes were level with the sword she held, and he could see the veins bulging through her translucent pale skin from how tightly she clutched it.

"It would be futile to order you punished," she said slowly. "No one can even attempt to hurt you as much as you have hurt her."

"I know," he answered quietly.

"But it is my duty to try."

She struck out with her sword, slicing the air until the blade collided with his face, knocking Vachlan off his knees and onto the floor. Aazuria could vaguely hear Visola screaming for her to stop, but she was already standing over Vachlan and forcing the tip of her sword between his teeth. Her previous strike had resulted in a huge bleeding gash along the side of his handsome face, but it had not been enough to kill him. She was poised to finish the job.

Vachlan moved his tongue against the steel, tasting the freshly-sharpened metal edge garnished with the metallic taste of his own blood. It is rare that the wine so perfectly accompanies the main dish, he thought as he swallowed the coppery fluid accumulating in his mouth. Kind of like a German Pinot Noir. He looked into the azure eyes of Adlivun's queen and realized that this was no longer the innocent, charitable philanthropist he had known hundreds of years ago. She was hard. He wondered what percentage of the tempered rage behind her eyes he was responsible for generating.

"One reason." Aazuria was demanding. "Give me one convincing reason that I should not thrust my blade directly through your skull."

EXCERPT

I felt a blanket of peaceful love with a sense of urgency. The night air in front of me began to move; it looked like a wave gently swaying with a current. A thin light began to emerge then Landen stepped through the wave. I felt the air leave my lungs and adrenaline rush through every part of my body as my heart violently hammered in my chest.
"Landen…" I breathed.
In the darkness, I could see his haunting blue eyes widen, we were both soaked in the emotion of disbelief, along with the fear that this wasn't real.
In that beat of my heart he'd reached my side. His hands were trembling ever so slightly as they cradled my face, and his thumbs graze the flesh of my cheekbones. He was staring at me like I was a forbidden fruit, like I was every sin in the book, desire washed over that lasting look as he leaned in and let his lips frame mine. When we melded the flesh of our lips together, his hands fell from my face and slowly waved down my body, embracing my flesh, I was doing the same to him. He was warm, he was on fire, I could hear his breaths, hear the sweet sound of our kiss, the way our clothes were moving under our touch. He was real. He was in my arms, and he was driving me wild. That first kiss was nothing compared to this, that was a dream, it was fleeting, it was something that could end at any second, this-this touch, this emotion, this pulsing of my soul was eternal.
He pressed our bodies together and held me with more strength than he had ever displayed. We both sought air more than once, but the other moved closer as soon as that gasp was taken. His warm tongue was uninhabited yet sensual as it danced with mine. I was devouring every sensation he was giving me and wanting more, so much more.
I was trembling with passion, I think he misunderstood that, he slowed our kiss, as one arm went around me and the other cradled my face. His thumb reached to my lips just as his kiss ended, he tenderly caressed the moist, swollen flesh he found there.
"I found you," he said with the lips of an angel. His voice was deep and entrancing, those three simple words sounded like poetry as he spoke them.
His eyes danced over my image, "I love you." he said as he leaned in and kissed me once more, this was a sweet kiss, only lips, only warm sensual lips.

Book Description:

Joseph O'Reily is still adjusting to the lifestyle and the dangers that come with being a new vampire. He and Cassandra recently fought to the death with Cassandra's estranged husband John Snow, and now Joseph has experienced his first ménage a trios, as only a vampire can. As if all of this was not complicated enough, he and Cassandra have been tasked with hunting down and killing a rogue vampire, Donald Rathmore.

Another of John Snow's creations, Donald is an evil misogynistic killer in his own right. Donald has no interest in avenging his creator's death, but killing Cassandra is at the top of his list.

While Donald continues his murderous spree, Joseph and Cassandra always seem to be one step behind him. The chase is further complicated as they encounter other vampires and learn more about the mysterious nature of the Vampire Council and the coming war between good and evil.

Joseph is only now beginning to trust Cassandra, and this trust will be shaken when he discovers she has even more secrets than he imagined. Her idea of justice and morality is at complete odds with his own. Despite all his powers and growing skill, Joseph is tested physically as a vampire and emotionally by Cassandra. This time the answers and challenges may be too much for the young vampire to handle.

Prologue
My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean

Anne Bonny sat on the beach of Green Island, Hawaii, sipping a mai tai as she admired the view of the sunset. The sky began to turn crimson red, which helped dull the intense headache she suffered as a vampire up before dark.

She resided near what was thought to be an abandoned Coast Guard station, which secretly harbored her mansion underground and several paid servants and guards. Underneath a run-down airstrip lay a subterranean waterway where a submarine was docked. The submarine was used primarily for the human servants that needed to leave the island to fetch supplies or take vacations. The runway itself could still handle flight landings if a friend popped in for a visit.

Anne, like many vampires, was quite wealthy. Wise investments over enough time provided financial comfort that most well-to-do humans accumulated only through inheritance, corporate sharking, or a serendipitous blend of ideas, timing, and networking. The simple truth was, the duration of a human life was usually too short to build the financial stability to which most vampires were accustomed. Like most vampires, Anne chose not to flaunt her wealth. Going unnoticed made it easier to hide from humans. Peace and quiet was easy to obtain on a deserted island.

She had always loved tropical locations, and the Hawaiian Islands were so near the equator that the temperature almost never changed. She also loved sunsets so much that it was worth the suffering and slight risk of being out in the open before full dark. Green Island was primarily a bird sanctuary now, with the occasional monk seals that showed up on the beaches. Anne didn't hate animals, but she killed a few birds that had the audacity to crap on her head one afternoon. At night, her vampire presence kept them away. In case something happened to her human servants, she could call out to a seal for assistance.

She sang to herself, "My bonny lies over the ocean; my bonny lies over the sea..." She liked that song, even though it wasn't about her. As she sang and took another sip from her drink, she closed her eyes and grimaced in pain. This was a different kind of pain from that of a vampire out in the day. She knew that her estranged youngling John was in terrible danger and perhaps faced death. Despite the pain, she smiled and reclined easily on her lounger. "Serves the bastard right," she whispered to herself. "He was my biggest regret in life. His charms fooled me, and I made him one of us. It's time his life was brought to an end."

Anne sighed, feeling better as the sun dipped near the horizon. She thought of that spring day in 1834 Newfoundland. John was a handsome man who exuded charisma and confidence. A hundred and thirty years didn't seem so long ago. Time was relative when one was immortal. Still, she should have vetted John Snow and read his thoughts before turning him. But she was horny, hungry, and foolish. She not only bit him but kissed him afterwards with blood still on her lips. She didn't see the harm in turning a wealthy fisherman. She realized too late that he was married, and she vowed not to cause the destruction of his marriage. When she saw him shot and dropped into the ocean, she thought that was the end of him, but she was wrong once more. Fish, it seemed, didn't like the taste of vampires, and she learned that even a shot to the head and an injury to the brain would heal. Many years later, she heard of his rash actions, but didn't want to admit to the Council that she had caused the mess. Best let them deal with it in their own way.

Newfoundland had seemed like a good place for a pirate to go - Peter Easton, Black Bart, and George Fielding all had frequented the area in years gone by. She enjoyed her life as a pirate. She loved to capture booty, but didn't delight in slaughter.

Then she thought back to October, 1720, in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. She had been imprisoned there and convicted of piracy. Luckily she had dreamt of her own capture and had grown her belly in the two weeks prior, so as to appear pregnant. It was a simple matter then to 'plead the belly,' as it was known at the time, and receive a stay of execution. This stay gave her a chance to escape and resume her pirate career disguised as a man. By 1860, with Albert Hicks hung for piracy in the US, she knew it was time to stop. The world had changed, and she had to change with it. Riverboat gambling was easy money. She did enjoy being on the water and the attention men paid her.

Anne took another sip of her drink and concentrated. John was fortunate that the sun was about to set, and her powers were activated in time. A man in a white shirt and shorts came over to her. "Excuse me, mistress. May I get you another drink?"

Anne opened her eyes. "No, Charles, I'd like to be alone for a few minutes. Take away the glass and bring me my cell phone in a bit."

The man nodded. "As you wish." He took the glass and left.

Anne resumed her concentration, and John entered her mind fully. He thought to her, Anne. my dear, my own youngling Catherine and this motherfucker Joseph are about to kill me. If you ever cared for me, avenge my death. I am in Newfoundland, and I will give you my last images so you will know their faces.

Anne snorted and thought back, Go fuck yourself, John. I just wish you had died in 1834 instead of living this long. Anne received no reply, but did see through John's eyes at his moment of death. She saw a statue of Peter Pan, animals at his feet, and a lot of blood. She saw a woman with beautiful long, red curly hair who looked terribly wounded in her chest, and man who seemed to have been shot as he stabbed John with a sharpened wooden stick.

Anne gasped as her own chest hurt terribly for a second. And then she received one final thought from John. They are watching us.

Anne waited for the pain to fade and rubbed her chest right above her heart. She snorted again and grumbled to herself, "Tell me something I don't know."

With the sun gone down, she sat up and smiled, absently admiring her slim, athletic figure in her gold bikini. She tossed back her fiery red hair, kept straight at shoulder length. "My dear John," she said aloud, "your death, and these other vampires in Newfoundland, are enough to pique my interest."

The last remnants of the sun disappeared below the horizon, and Anne felt her senses fully come to life. She heard Charles' heartbeat and smelled the sweetness of his blood. As he approached, she stood and held out her hand for the phone. Charles said in his accustomed manner, "Are you hungry, mistress?" He passed her the phone and stretched his neck to one side.

Anne smiled. "Yes, Charles, you'll have the next few days off, as I will drain you deeply. Remember, until you pass out, that I liked to be fondled. I'll make certain Michael carries you to sickbay."

Charles nodded. "Of course, mistress. Thank you for choosing me tonight."

Anne took the phone and clipped in on the back of her bikini bottom. She took off Charles' shirt and sunk her teeth into his neck. He tasted lovely, with not a hint of drugs or alcohol, and had a pleasant taste of cinnamon in his blood. She also enjoyed his ministrations, but she became more excited at the thought of sex with another vampire. It had been too long since she'd enjoyed the company of others of her kind. Any vampire capable of destroying John must be worth my interest.

She drained Charles until his heartbeat started to slow and he drifted into unconsciousness. Anne cared for her servants, the way a pet owner cared for her animals, and she laid him gently on the sand. She took the cell phone out and punched in the mansion number. She didn't allow time for a greeting but simply stated, "Have a boat waiting on the southeastern end of Midway Island. I'll whistle loudly. Also, prepare the sub and head off for Honolulu. I'll be there in a few days. Make sure it has my weapons on board. Oh, and send Michael down to take Charles to sickbay. He'll need a few days off."

The reply came instantly. "Of course, mistress, right away."

Anne tucked the cell phone into Charles' right front pocket and, after a brief glance at the first stars that came into view, dived into the ocean. The water was warm against her cool skin. She could easily swim in the Arctic and break through ice if necessary, but this was much more pleasant. Fish, dolphins, sharks and the occasional whale all moved out of her way as she cut through the water like a knife. She had been an excellent swimmer as a human, and when she was turned, her swimming speed and skill reached legendary levels. She could easily swim thirty kilometers an hour at night and go for eight to ten hours with a belly full of blood. Like all vampires, she had an uncanny sense of direction and knew she was headed for Midway Island. She planned to reach it just before sunrise. Perhaps, when she got to Newfoundland, she would find a new companion or at least some friends. John had created Catherine, after all, and she did at least owe her an apology. She wondered if this Joseph had experienced a blood embrace. In any case, he had not done it with her.

It would take her weeks to get there this way, but she was in no rush. Anticipation was a wonderful thing, and time was certainly on her side.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Joe is still trying to deal with life as a vampire and is learning to cope. He has found out what it means to really love someone to the point where you would kill for them. Cassandra with Joe's help of course has finally killed her creator and husband, John Snow. Joe was chosen specifically by Cassandra to be turned into a vampire for this very reason. Joe and Cassandra think that they are safe now with John out of their lives. But they find out that John has created another vampire, Donald whom John has sent to kill Joe and Cassandra.

Of course Joe and Cassandra do not know about this Donald guy until they are approached by a member of the vampire council. They are approached by the Countess and she sends them to find Donald and kill him. Donald was a very bad, evil person as a human and is a whole lot more evil as a vampire. Naturally he is a lot stronger and can get by with more things than before because of his new special vampire abilities.

Donald does not like women at all not that he is gay or doesn't like women in that way. But what I mean is that he thinks that all women are whores and should be punished and killed. I don't know what happened to Donald as a child but I would assume that something real bad happened to him but that may not always be the case. But I would like to know if that is the case with Donald. You know like what makes him hate women so bad. How can anyone be so evil? How can their heart be so cruel?

The council tells Cassandra and Joe where Donald is so they start out on their journey to find him. They take a train to travel to their destination but unfortunately they are told to get off the train before they reach their destination. They are told about someone that is killing women with the same MO as Donald uses. So they get off the train and go find this vampire that is killing women. They find him in a church and he has a woman there with him using her as bait to draw them there so that he can kill them. Although he gives them a good fight and does damage to their bodies in the end he is no match for the two of them as a team Joe and Cassandra are a couple of good fighters. Cassandra and Joe kill Donald and then they head back home well you know to live happily ever after.

Joe finds out a lot more than he wants to know about his new girlfriend Cassandra on this little trip. While watching her to some of the things she does during their little killing episode of Donald Joe is not sure that she is the person he thought she was or maybe he is not the person he thought he was either. Joe wants to spend some time alone for a while to figure out if he can live the life that he thinks Cassandra wants him to live. Or maybe he just needs time to figure out who this new Joe is and learn how to be this new person that he has become.

I have enjoyed reading book #2 Killer on the Road in The Newfoundland Vampire series and hope that I get to read more about all of the characters in the series. I loved, loved reading about different fictional characters or people through history that was a vampire. It would be really cool if vampires were real and you found out that a lot of people you knew were really vampires. I thought this part was really awesome. I would like to read more about other famous people being vampires. The Newfoundland Vampires Series is one really cool series and if you are a vampire fan then you don't want to miss reading this series. Because Joe and Cassandra will take you on the best ride of your life and have you fantasying about being a vampire too.

Book Description:

Like every other geek alive, Newfoundland native Joseph O'Reily secretly wants to be a superhero. At thirteen he fantasized about being a vampire, and ten years later he's still fantasizing - but mostly about a beautiful redheaded woman who has eyes only for him. The one thing different about Joseph's adult fantasy is that, amazingly, it comes true one night when he goes to a local university pub. Cassandra Snow, literally the woman of his dreams, invites him to her place for an evening of personal pleasure. Of course he's not going to say no. But when strange things start happening afterward, Joseph quickly learns that not all dreams should come true.
