Excerpt

"I need you to watch my daughter and protect her with your life. I have a lot on the line and I need to know that someone will keep an eye on her and keep her out of danger."

Drew reflected on the idea and glanced to the floor, calculating what would happen if he accepted the task. "And I can't tell her?"

Christopher shook his head. "Absolutely not. She would avoid you so as not to have someone peering over her shoulder. I know my daughter enough to know that much."

"But you want me to get close to her, so I can watch her at all times?"

"Yes, I can't let anyone try to…remove…her because of what she is. I need someone to get as close to her as possible without raising any red flags on her radar. And, of course, you have to keep the Secret of the Halflings. Can you do that?"

"What'll happen if she finds out?"

"If you're worried she'll find out, then you're not right for the job."

There was no easy way to this and no upside either. Things would be difficult and confused around Raya, as if they weren't already. But he couldn't exactly turn down Christopher Sarian.

"I'll do it."

Publication Date-May 27, 2014

Blurb-

Christian Lancelot Du Lac was never one to take a situation seriously. Growing up he had always been the comedic relief to Jared Bonatelli's brooding nature. Now, just as The Dark Order welcomes Jared as its new Prince, Du Lac is informed that he must become a first in command the future King can truly rely on. When he repeatedly fails in his attempts to prove himself, Lance is thrown back in time to where his life began, Camelot. What he finds there is more than he could have bargained for.

Drawn to the forest surrounding Camelot, Lady Elizabeth Payne searches for something that seems just out of her reach. Tormented by a pair glowing eyes in the mist she steals away in the middle of the night to find their owner. Thieves, a wolf and the most infuriating savior she has ever met turn her simple world upside down. But it's the attraction she feels to the newcomer that truly takes her by surprise. Learning that he is Christian Du Lac, the long lost son of the First Knight himself peaks her curiosity even more.

Now on the cusp of meeting her betrothed for the first time, Elizabeth's heart has been claimed by another. But even a betrothal written in blood is no match for fate.

For Lance and Elizabeth, the odds are stacked against them. Their worlds are destined to remain forever apart. Can time heal all wounds or will the fates change their course and let the star crossed lovers find each other once again?

Excerpt-

Camelot ~ 530 AD

She sat on the edge of the stone window ledge. Her feet curled underneath her, Elizabeth stared out past the great moat and green fields below. Her soft leather shoes had been discarded long ago and sat forgotten on the cold stone floor beneath her. The open window offered hardly any protection from the moist air blowing outside. The wind whipped the strawberry blonde strands which escaped from the braid around her face. Absently, she brushed it back tucking it behind her ear. Her eyes never turned away from the muted grey horizon.

The early-morning dew collected on the fields, giving them an eerie glow. The land below looked like the home of the Fae. The same Fae who called to her each night. They enticed her with visions of eyes from another place and time. Those visions brought her to this abandoned tower room in the early hours before the rest of the castle awoke to go about their day. In these stolen minutes she found her solace. At this hour, there was no one questioning where she had been. No one berating her for her unladylike behavior. Here ,she was completely alone.

Elizabeth hugged her knees. The hem of her sleeping tunic inched up, baring her toes to the cool air. Gooseflesh erupted over the length of her arm. She pulled the blanket draped across her shoulders a little tighter, unwilling to leave her perch. The moisture in the air collected on her lashes, making them heavy. A yawn threatened, but she fought it off, not wanting to break the spell. Only a few moments more. . .

"M'lady?"

Nay! Not yet. They can't have found me. I only need another moment or two.

A soft knock on the door made her jump. "M'lady, please. The King found your solar empty and has ordered his men to scour the castle for you."

Lady Elizabeth blinked and the magic of the morn was lost. It didn't surprise her. Every day she searched the horizon for something, but it remained beyond her reach. Her shoulders sagged and a sigh escaped her lips. She climbed down from the ledge. When her feet met the floor she shivered and slipped them inside the cold leather shoes. She made haste toward the door. Pulling it open, she glanced in either direction before dragging her startled maid inside and closing it silently. She held her finger to her lips, urging the girl into silence. Footsteps sounded in the passageway.

Elizabeth stood with her ear against the wooden door, listening to the deep voice on the other side. "She has to be here somewhere. Find her and return her to Arthur. I shall take the battlements whilst the rest of you search indoors."

Sir Bors de Ganis was the first to speak. "Aye Galahad, we'll have her safe and sound in no time." The rest of the men chimed in with their approval. Their voices dissipated, each heading off to search their own area.

Leaning against the door, she closed her eyes and let out the breath she held. Why did having a moment to oneself entail so much havoc? After a few seconds, she lifted her gaze to meet her maid's. Elizabeth cringed at the frown Beatrix gave her. Not only was she in trouble, she dragged the poor girl down with her. "Beatrix, I'm sorry. I never meant. . . ." Her words died on her lips. There was no way she could make this right. Their only option was to return to her solar and await punishment for disobeying the King's order to stay within its walls.

"M'lady, if I may?" Bea's frown softened. Elizabeth nodded slowly, waiting for her friend to chastise her. "The King is simply concerned for your welfare. He wouldn't want any harm to befall his foster child. Mayhap if you just explain-"

"Nay, I cannot tell him or anyone else why I sneak away. They would consider me mad." She began to pace. "No one would understand. The Fae or some other being within the forest calls to me. I hear it in my dreams, yet when I try to search for it from here, whatever it may be eludes me."

"I think you need more rest, M'lady." Bea moved closer and laid a gentle hand on her arm. "Let us get you back to your chamber. It would be better if we arrived there first, don't you think?"

Again, she nodded and allowed her maid to lead her into the passageway. They hadn't made it more than a few steps before they met Sir Galahad. He leaned casually against the wall, arms folded across his chest. Elizabeth inclined her chin, a silent challenge, and waited. His piercing blue eyes assessed her in the dim light.

When she thought he would scold her for leading them on a wild goose chase, he offered her his arm. "Lady Elizabeth, I do believe you are late to break your fast. Allow me to escort you back to your chamber so you may dress appropriately before we attend the King in his solar."

He gave no sign of anger or annoyance as she took his arm. Surprisingly, he leaned down to whisper in her ear, "I'll not impart your secret. We all deserve a little adventure in our lives. No harm was done." Galahad straightened and gifted her with a wink. He led their small party from the sanctuary she found in the abandoned tower room to her chamber. Her maid followed silently behind them, smiling.

Review: SEVENTEEN By Mark Diehl @GoddessFish #Giveaway

SEVENTEEN By Mark Diehl

Blurb:

Most of the world's seventeen billion people are unconscious, perpetually serving their employers as part of massive brain trusts. The ecosystem has collapsed, and corporations control all of the world's resources and governments. A bedraggled alcoholic known as the Prophet predicts nineteen year-old waitress Eadie will lead a revolution, but how can she prevail when hunted by a giant corporation and the Federal Angels it directs?

Excerpt:

"I know what you did, Sett. There is a Federal Angel with me right now. He wants to talk to you. He would like to know why you helped some waitress escape after she killed Matt Ricker. Switch to visual. Now."

He blinked hard and wiped a palm across his forehead. A sickly gray light seemed smeared along the opposite wall, having filtered through the filthy window at the end of the hallway. The floorboards creaked as he shifted his weight.

"Is it true, Sett?" his mother asked. "Why would you get yourself involved in a debacle like that? Why? When everything was going so well for you?"

He stared down at the stained plywood floor, now spotted with teardrops.

"What were you thinking? A waitress? You know better than to go getting messed up with people like that. They'll drag you right down with them, every time. You come home right now and explain to this Angel exactly what happened; I'm sure he'll understand. But I'm not going to lie to you. There will still be fallout. Society does not tolerate wretched, uncivilized behavior. I can't guarantee you'll be allowed to remain at Fisher."

"I wasn't thinking at all, Mother. I was just doing it, all of a sudden." He sniffed. "She was hurt, and they started it, not her. Nobody else would help. What was I supposed to do? Just let her die?"

"Oh, Sett." His mother sighed. "Of course you were."

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

Well it has finally happened the people have killed the planet. Earth is dying but with over seventeen billion people in the world what can you except. Most of these seventeen billion people are already dead but they have found a way to keep them alive kind of. The bodies is nothing but rotting flesh hooked up to machines that keep their brains working and used as a "brain trust" a place to store information to be used by the company.

If you are lucky enough to work for the company then you are doing well. The company takes care of all of your needs no matter what they are. Well as long as they think you need it that is. If you work for and do exactly what the company and God tells you to do then you are top dog but if you break one of their rules and not do as they say then you are in big trouble. But no need to harp on it for long though because you can either go voluntary or involuntary (either way is fine with the company) to be reconditioned or brain washed to follow the companies rules and do as God says.

Then we have the people who live in the zone. Now these people don't have it so nice. Oh they are expected to follow the rules but they don't get everyone of their needs met. For them to survive they have to sell drugs, steal, barter for food or whatever it is they may need. A lot of the people who live in the zone don't even have a home. They live or sleep where ever they can find a place to lay their heads. But some of the people that live in the zone have it a little better. Some do have jobs and homes or a room to go to at night to lay their head down and sleep.

Seventeen has a lot of different characters not just in numbers. The characters in Seventeen are mixture of people who live in different environments or society. The characters in Seventeen are all treated differently just because of whom they are and what part of town they live in. The "General" Eadie is a waitress who lives in the zone who once live a different live not in the zone. Once a upon a time Eadie's parents worked for the company so they lived higher up on the ladder until one day something happened and both of her parents were fired and they had no choice but to move and they ended up in the zone. So Eadie knows how it is to live in both worlds. She knows that the way the people in the zone are being treated is wrong and wants to change it.

Eadie had no idea that she was going to have a hand in trying to change things as they knew it when she went to work that day but when she saw these guys who were upperclassmen, (college students who would one day work for the company if they did as they were told that is) attack an older man in the diner it pissed Eadie off to the point where she was fighting these guys. They missed her up pretty bad but she was lucky that there just happened to be a first year student at the diner that didn't like the upperclassmen or the way he had to live. He didn't like being told what to do by his father or the company all the time. He was like Eadie he thought everyone should be treated the same. Sett and Eadie didn't know that that day was just the beginning of their fight to change the world. To make it a better place for everyone.

I like all of the characters in Seventeen and had no problem seeing them in my head as if I was watching a movie. I would love to see Seventeen on the big screen. I can't wait to read more about the company and the people who live in the zone as well as all of the characters in Seventeen. Can Eadie, Sett, the Prophet and Dok change the world? Can they make a beginning to start the change that everyone needs? Can they save the world? Or will the planet die alone with humanity?
