Excerpt Tour + #Giveaway: The Lady's Arrangement by Colleen L Donnelly @ColleenLDonnell @GoddessFish

The Lady’s Arrangement
by Colleen L. Donnelly
GENRE: Historical Fiction

Neither Rex nor Regina wants a spouse, but they do have needs.

Ranger Rex Duncan needs a false identity—just long enough to uncover a ring of Kansas ranch thieves. Answering Regina’s ad for a temporary husband, he leaves his beloved red dirt of Oklahoma to assume that disguise. But the most obstinate woman he’s ever known confounds his assignment, and with hair the red color that has always made his heart beat a little faster.

Regina Howard needs a new Mrs. in front of her name—just long enough to reclaim her deceased husband’s ranch, since Kansas law won’t allow women to own property. When Rex answers her ad for a husband who can take orders as part of a brief business arrangement, she finds this stubborn man ignores her every command. Yet a good man is far more than just a name…

Over the small rise someone was walking. A slow and laden step coming our way. A man, by the look of the trousers, except they were cinched tight at the waist. They were far too large for him, and billowed at the hips. Even the shirt was too big, angling down behind the belt in a tight vee. With men like that on the ranch, no wonder Mrs. Howard needed help.

“That one of the hands?” I glanced back at Jess.

The boy snorted. “If she was a hand, I’d fire her. Send her back east so she can remember who she is.”

“She?” I turned back around. The figure was closer. Near enough I could see the hair now, a cloud of wisps and loose red curls escaping whatever knot she had it gathered in behind her head. Red. “Is that how women dress in Kansas?”

Jess snorted again. Louder this time. “That’s no Kansas woman. That’s my ma.”

I’d never seen a woman in men’s clothing before, and getting a closer look didn’t appeal to me. I latched onto Walter’s bridle and slid it back over his head. I’d rather face Jim, tell him the Howard situation didn’t work out, and confess I’d burned my family’s ranch to the ground, than get yoked with a woman in man’s clothing, especially a woman that thought nothing of telling a lie.

And to Bernie - my daughter became addicted to author Louise Penny and gave me a copy of "How the Light Gets In." Penny is a Canadian mystery writer that caught me up in her literary style and very thoughtful phrases, as well as her characters and plot. I envied her writing ability from page one! Lovely prose!
