Devastated by the death of her grandfather, six-year-old Kelly Rodgers barely manages to cope with the profound loss. Already facing issues at school, she finds herself spiraling deeper into despair, when a fateful interaction through the fence in her backyard gives her hope. In the years following, Kelly realizes that life’s tragedies can be dealt with through acceptance; until another series of agonizing events leaves her heart in pieces.
Finding herself thrown into new surroundings, Kelly embraces her life and resolves to never fall in love. That decision is easy to keep until her junior year when she is drawn by an unavoidable attraction to the new guy, tormented James Delaney. The moment he looks up at her and smiles, her body betrays her. And he notices. She is determined to avoid him, but soon Kelly is forced to face the inevitable truth: She doesn’t want to avoid James… and he won’t let her.
Even though tragedy always follows love.

Interview
with Michelle Jester
What inspired you to write The Funeral Flower?
I’ve been
writing poems and stories for as long as I can recall. I wrote The Funeral
Flower for myself. While fictional, it, like most of my writing, is loosely
based on some of my own experiences and some of the people in my life.
Can
you tell us a little bit about what you have planned for the future?
I am currently finishing up Love, Cutter
(preview at the end of The Funeral Flower) and will release it either at the
end of 2017 or early 2018. We recently filmed the book trailer and I am excited
about it all!
Can
you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Funeral Flower?
The Funeral Flower characters are all
influenced by real people in my life. Some characters are influenced by two or
more people. One of the most important characters though is the sister, Audrey.
She is a mirror of my own sister and best friend. While the circumstances are
fiction, she is exactly the rock to me that Audrey is to Kelly.
You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your
favorite author and why?
That’s a super
tough one because I truly have so many favorite authors. It depends on what I
feel like reading really. Among some of my top favorites are Lisa Kleypas,
Allison Gaylin, John Green, Lisa Gardner, Lisa Jackson, Harlan Coben, Nicholas
Sparks, Penny Reid, Colleen Hoover, Sandra Brown, Kiera Cass, Victoria Aveyard,
Terri Brisbin, Johanna Lindsey, and Julianne MacLean. There are many more, but
that’s just a quick list. ;)
If you could time-travel would you travel to the future or
the past? Where would you like to go and why would you like to visit this
particular time period?
Believe it or
not, neither. I would hate to travel back into a world where society had
limited progression on equal rights. I would also hate to travel to the future
in fear that the world wasn’t the better place we’ve all been fighting for.
Dire I know. I am a hopeless romantic and an optimist for the most part. Some
subjects deserve the grim reality they’ve earned.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat?
Or any pets?
Yes, we have four
dogs. One huge Doberman named Fluffy, one sweet little Bossy-poo named Charlie,
two adorable Corgi mixes, named Kannibul and Rhea. My husband and children are
to blame for the names :D
Thanks
for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us today.
Author Bio:
I am a hopeless romantic (I think this is the most important thing to know about me). In addition, I live in Greenwell Springs, Louisiana with my husband and high school sweetheart. Together we have a son and daughter.
Throughout my life writing and photography have been my main creative outlets. Especially when I am stressed, I know I can go to either of those things and pour out that anxiety into something good and productive.
