Dead Games

Afterworld Apocalypse, Prequel

Genre: Zombie, Teen, Young Adult, Post-Apocalyptic, Thriller

Blurb:

The weak beg for scraps. The strong are rewarded. Order is maintained.

The only son of a powerful warlord, Gun hates the unjust system that keeps his father in power. But with flesh-eating plaguers outside the city walls, his father holds all the cards—and he knows it.

When Gun breaks the rules, he expects the punishment to be severe. Instead, he is ordered to befriend a girl. Gun would rather fight plaguers than waste his time on a teenager–until he meets Sulan.

As his feelings for Sulan grow, Gun faces a choice: does he toe the line and avoid his father’s wrath, or protect Sulan and her dangerous secret?

Dead Games is the prequel to the high-octane Afterworld Apocalypse series. If you like the dystopian romance of Warm Bodies and the gritty characters of 28 Days Later, you’ll love this action-packed story.

My Review:

Dead Games starts off strong with a young man being chased by plaguers hunting for a safe place to hide. The excitement rises as Gun gets himself trapped in a closet with the plaguers trying to beat down the door to get to him.

Gun must find a way to get out or he will die alone inside that closet even if the plaguers can’t get to him at the moment. There are other ways to die than getting bit by a plaguer.

I really did like Gun’s way of escaping that room with the plaguers just on the other side of that door trying to claw their way into him. I loved the new twist on these zombies or plaguers as Gun calls them.

Later after Gun’s escape, the story continues to ramp up with more and more excitement of killing plaguers. Gun’s father, the leader of their group sends Gun out on a mission. Gun has to take up with this teenage girl to become her friend in order to obtain the information his father wants. Gun has no idea what his father wants with the girl but when his father speaks everyone listens and does as he says or the punishment can become serious quickly.

Dead Games starts off with a blast with lots of zombies or plaguers to keep me hooked and racing to the end to see how Gun and Sulan’s story turns out. Dead Games is a great start to a new series/world. I can’t wait for the first book in the series Dead Run, to see where the story goes next.

I love all books about zombies I can’t seem to get enough of them. I loved everything about Dead Games and can’t wait for more from this amazing new world filled with zombies or plaguers as they are called in Dead Games. I loved Dead Games so much that I highly recommend it to all zombie fans!
