Book Tour + #Giveaway: Whispers of the Past by Karen Tjebben @CherishLively @RABTBookTours

Paranormal with a little romance

Date Published : 09-07-2024

Gifts always come with strings... Just don't get tangled in them. When Kat Summers inherits a dilapidated house, she can't wait to restore it. As she breathes life into the house, something within her awakens. Shadows & voices haunt the hallways & trigger her quest for answers. Jana Summers has a spreadsheet for everything. So, when her wife quits her job & begins restoring a money pit, she panics. There's no spreadsheet on how to handle a haunted house or a wife with the gift of sight.

Interview with Karen Tjebben

How do you select the names of your characters?

You’d think it would be easy to come up with names, but it’s always a challenge for me. I typically resort to using a name generator on the internet. It pulls up 100 names and I scan through. If nothing feels right, I repeat and it spits out more names. I’m glad I came across that website. It’s saved me a lot of time.

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

I hide a few things here and there. The most recent is from a book that was released about a year ago. It was a religious book that was trying to compare a husband and wife’s sex life to the way God loves His ‘Church’. The content was shockingly sexual. Think Song of Solomon meets 50 Shades… but add a hefty amount of blasphemy. After reading portions of that book, I decided that if he could write about marriage and God like that, my erotic romances were just fine. The chapter name in Chimera Connections is “Beautiful Union”. I come from a very religious background, so writing erotic romance is something I never imagined that I’d do. My book Confessions of a Fallen Good Girl explores the transition a fundamentalist woman goes through as she examines her beliefs and reconstructs her faith.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

Whispers of the Past was originally written to be a stand-alone book. It’s storyline still is, but I’m blending the characters from Lexi Wells – Gift of Sight to Whispers of the Past in a crossover story that I’m currently writing on Vella. I haven’t decided on a name for it yet, but it can be found under ‘Crossover’ on the Vella platform. I know, that title is everything. Ha! Ha! I’m excited to see how the characters are interacting and working to stop a serial killer.

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

Whispers of the Past is a sapphic paranormal thriller. It has a ‘spicy’ scene or two, but the romance is not the main point. I have a friend who is LGBTQ and she told me that I should write a sapphic book because they need more representation. I hope that everyone can enjoy this paranormal thriller.

Can you tell us a little bit about the next books in Whispers of the Past or what you have planned for the future?

I plan to add to the Delicate Liaisons and Chimera Connections series. They are both comprised of short erotic stories which will allow me to continue the series indefinitely. They are also available to listen for free on My Secret Obsession: After Dark.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Whispers of the Past.

I enjoyed writing Kat (the seer) and her wife, Jana. They are opposites in a lot of ways, but their differences make them stronger as a family. When Kat shows Jana the house for the first time, I jokingly thought of my husband who would instantly be adding up the cost of everything that needed to be fixed in his mind, just like Jana.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

When I first began Whispers, I had the idea to add Tandy and Sam’s story to support the ‘haunted’ part of the story. I had no idea that their story would take over the book. I loved writing their story and even made myself cry at the end.

I hope everyone can enjoy Whispers of the Past.
