Athena Harrow is about to turn twenty-one, but there will be no celebration. What is there to celebrate when the world is ruled by demons?
She hates the darkness the demons brought with them and longs for the light to return to the world—a world she only vaguely remembers. The people in her forest village blindly accept the life the demons forced upon them, even tolerating the yearly ascension ceremony where all the girls who have turned twenty-one are either sent away to serve the Master Demon or left in the village and forced to procreate.
But Paymon, the assigned village demon, selects a different role for Athena, a role that pits her against the village. While she adapts to her new life, Erebus, a younger, more powerful demon, arrives, and Athena must play a dangerous game with his emotions in return for information about the demon’s reign of darkness.
As Athena’s dreams of restoring the light begin to fade, her life with Erebus takes an unexpected turn, and this time it’s her life being put to the test.
Set in the forest around Buttercrambe in North Yorkshire, England, INIQUITY explores the frightening, darker side of romance and the uncontrolled emotions it can unleash.
An
Interview with Melody Winter
What
inspired you to write Iniquity?
All the natural
disasters happening around the world. I was watching the news after another
earthquake and I found myself thinking, what if this is a warning that
something even bigger is going to happen? We seem to have more earthquakes,
tsunami’s and volcanoes spewing ash these days then we ever did when I was
younger.
When
or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I was a late starter.
It was after I’d read Breaking Dawn, the last book in the Twilight series. I
hated the ending and immediately searched on-line to see if any other people
had felt the same. That’s when I came across the Twilight community on
Fanfiction, and that’s what made me want to write my own books
What
is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?
I was around five
years old. I had all the Beatrix Potter books and loved them so much, although
it was probably the illustrations that caught my attention more. But I do
remember trying to read them.
What
genre of books do you enjoy reading?
All sorts really, but
the main theme seems to be romance. I like any book centring around a romance
story. It can be anything from historical, contemporary, fantasy, or even
erotica.
What
is your favorite book?
I think my favourite
book will always be Twilight. (Not so much the rest of the series) I love the
emotions it manages to stir in me whenever I read it, and of course, I credit
it with being the book that started my writing career J
You
know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and
why?
I think Tiffany Reisz
is an amazing author. The Siren, from her original sinners series showed me how
a BDSM book can be written and the love still shine through. I really felt I
understood how someone who could physically hurt you could still love you, and
you love them. No other BDSM book has ever managed to do that for me.
If
you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would
you go and why?
I’d love to travel
back to the Medieval times in my home city of York. There is so much history in
York from that era, and it would be fascinating to see how York was back then,
although probably not very pleasant, so I’d only like to visit for a short time
J
When
writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult
task?
When I’m in the zone
it comes easily. But, like now, I’ve been editing for so long that I’m a little
worried about whether I’ll easily slip back into writing again. I’m sure I
will, but time will tell.
Do
you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
No pets L
What
is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?
I love a home cooked
roast lamb dinner, preferably cooked by someone else. My mother-in-law cooks
the most amazing roast dinners.
Do
you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Keep writing and
don’t give up. It’s not the easiest hobby/career to pursue. You need to believe
in yourself, your characters, and your story. Network, reach out to other
authors on facebook, twitter and get talking with like-minded people.
Author Bio:
Growing up, Melody showed a natural ability in art, a head for maths, and a tendency to write too long English essays. Difficult to place in the world when she graduated, she pursued a career in teaching, but ended up working in finance. Melody is convinced the methodical times she spends working with numbers fuel her desire to drift into dream worlds and write about the illusory characters in her head.
Melody Winter lives in York, North Yorkshire, England with her husband and two sons. When not dealing with football, rugby, and a whole plethora of ‘boy’ activities, she will be found scribbling notes for her stories, or preparing for another trip to the nearby beaches at Scarborough and Whitby. With an obsession for anything mythical, Melody revels in reading and writing about such creatures.
