Fates Entwined (Halven Rising #2)
by Jules
Barnard
Genre: YA Paranormal
Release Date: November 2016
Summary from Goodreads:
They can never be together. The notion is
laughable. Humans are inferior, a scourge on the Fae and on the magic passed
down to them by angels millennia ago. And if Keen finds himself drawn to the
tiny human female, he keeps it to himself. He won’t add to the half-breed problem
that threatens his people’s existence.
Reese can’t stand Keen. He criticizes her
clothing, won’t answer a straight question, and is too handsome for her peace
of mind.
Her entire life, people have pegged Reese for a
shallow, ditzy blond. She won’t accept the stereotype from the large, arrogant
Fae too. But after Keen saves her life, she begins to question what truly lies
beneath his stoic demeanor.
Forced together, Keen and Reese fight to survive
among enemies, and Keen makes choices Reese couldn’t have predicted. She
glimpses a side of him that is protective and dangerously seductive.
But Keen refuses to acknowledge their
connection.
Until he's faced with the decision to betray his
people, or lose Reese forever.

My
Review of Fates Entwined:
While Elena and Derek were trying to find a cure for the
disease that was causing the Fae to drop like flies. Elena’s best friend Reese
was kidnapped and Elena made her bodyguard Keen, a Fae promise that he would
find Reese and Fae cannot lie so he had to full fill his promise to her even if
he didn’t want too but Keen had every intention of finding Reese. Not that he
would ever admit it even to himself but I think ole’ Keen had a thing for
Reese. Only he couldn’t or wouldn’t be with her because she was a human. And
all Fae consider humans and Halven’s (half-humans/half-fae) to be beneath them.
Keen discovers that Reese has been taken to the fairy realm
where the kingdom is divided into three different kingdoms, Old Kingdom, New
Kingdom and Sunland. Reese was taken by a very evil person whose intentions are
to take control of all the kingdoms and all the Fae. In order for Keen to save
Reese he has to make a pledge to this evil person to keep her alive.
Can they all get out alive or will this evil person win
and take control of all the kingdoms? Will Keen, Elena and Derek have the power
and the means to save Reese and themselves? Who will win in the end?
This has been an amazing journey through the land of the
Fae. Reese and Elena are two very strong young ladies who both know what they
want and will do whatever they have to do even at the cost of their own lives
to save the ones they love. But Derek and Keen are two tall, hot dudes who are
all male and when fight to the death for the women.
I can’t wait to read more about the Fae realm and the
battles that is to come in the next book Fates Fulfilled. If you have not read
Fates Entwined then I would like to suggest that you do but let me say that I
think you would enjoy it better if you read the first book Fates Divided first.
Why? Because you don’t want to miss out on a great story plus you have to know
Elena and Derek’s story and about the disease that ran amuck among the Fae.

My
Review of Fates Divided:
All Elena wanted was to be the first in her family to
graduate college and be a chemist. One day she is working in the lab at school
on an experiment that goes awry. After arriving home at the end of the day she
can’t stop thinking about her experiment and needs to know what went wrong or
what happened is more like it. What she needs is access to a lab seeing as she
does not have access to the labs at school at the moment. She finds out that
her next door neighbor; a nerd like herself; may just have what she needs which
is access to a lab.
It just so happens that her neighbor Derek has just what
she needs a key to a private lab where he is working on a project with his
mentor. Derek is a straight forward kind of person and comes off sounding kind
of like a smart butt and kind of bossy which of course Elena is not too
thrilled with but she only needs to borrow his lab not make friends with him.
But when Derek and Elena are together sparks start flying
and bouncing all over the place. While Derek does not understand it he has this
strong urge to protect her so when she is contacted by the Fae and is told that
she is a Halven; half-human/half-fae he makes himself her personal bodyguard.
Derek knows that he is half-fae but tries to keep it hidden from his family and
the world. He also knows that Elena is a Halven and he does not trust the Fae.
The Fae do not like Halven they think they are beneath
them. But what the Fae don’t know is that Elena is a minority and is used to
being called names and being put down. Elena is an American who is part Mexican
so she knows all about being treated differently. Elena’s mother left her and
her father when she was a baby. Her mother left to protect her from her people
the Fae as they do not like Halven. When Elena lost her father in an accident
she was taken in by her uncle. When her uncle pasted away her cousin Mateo thinks
that it is now his responsibility to look out for Elena.
A disease is running havoc in the fae world and the Fae is
dropping like flies. The Fae believe that Elena can come up with a cure to save
them all by using her magical powers that she has had no knowledge of until her
they informed her of this. Now she must work fast in order to gain control of
her powers and find a cure to protect her family and friends the people she
loves the most. The Fae have threatened her family and her best friend Reese if
she does not do what they have asked.
I like Elena strong will and independent nature and how
she cares a lot for other people and their lives and will put her own ahead of
theirs. I like how Derek took to Elena so quick and decided that he was to
become her personal bodyguard and how he would not leave her side and would fight
anyone who tried to hurt Elena. Derek is that tall, dark and gorgeous stranger
that we all would like to meet at some time or other in our lives.
I love the world or worlds that the author created for
the humans and the fae with the feel of energy and electricity floating around in
the air. Fates Divided has romance and mystery with a touch of magical elements
and energy. I loved all the characters and can’t wait to start the next book
Fates Entwined to read Keen and Reese’s’ story.
If you haven’t read Fates Divided yet then let me suggest
that you do it will take you on the most magical ride of your life from page
one until the very last page one that you will not regret well I haven’t
anyways.
