An Adventure of Modern Magic

Twelve-year-old Alyssa McCarthy longs for a better life. She lost her parents at age seven and her aunt at nine. Her uncle also enforces unfair rules. But Alyssa discovers something she has never thought existed before… magic. A wicked sorcerer hunts her down. He kidnaps her from her ordinary New Jersey town to Yanowic, an enchanted island in Fiji.

Alyssa is trapped in the country due to a giant shield covering it. She must defeat dangerous creatures and the evil wizard in order to leave. But with sorcerers and enchanted technology getting in her way, can Alyssa succeed?

Originally published in 2013, the book has been updated to its full potential with edits, while keeping the storyline the same.

Interview with Author Sunayna Prasad

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

I think a guinea pig. They’re so cute. I even used to have them as pets.

How many hours a day do you put into your writing?

About and hour or two?

Do you read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the future?

Yes. They very much affect what is working and what to improve for future writing.

Do you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?

Yes, and unintentionally. I noticed them long after I published the books.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in “From Frights to Flaws, 2nd Edition”?

Alyssa is the main character. Her life was somewhat inspired by Harry Potter’s, but her personality was developed like the Disney princesses. There’s also her cousin, Hailey, who was developed like my brother at the time I first wrote the story in 2013. Another character is Alyssa’s best friend, Madison. She is peppy, but irresponsible at times. She was developed like one of my cousins.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

My sequel, “Wizardry Goes Wild, 2nd Edition” is being edited and the cover is being designed. I hope to have that published in the spring. There will also be a third book, currently titled “Enchanted for Eternity”, which I’m hoping to publish over the summer. I plan for seven books in this series, plus a spin-off standalone related to the series.

Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you write as long as the words come?

Both, honestly. It depends on my brain and how I can express myself certain days.

Do you have a certain number of words or pages you write per day?

Not really. It varies a lot. Usually, I wrote, at most, 1000 words a day. But I want to write a lot more per day.

What inspires you to write?

Different sources, like movies and other fictional sources. Very rarely do real-life experiences inspire me. I have lived a very straightforward life.

Would you rather

Read fiction or non-fiction?
Non-fiction, ironically. I am not usually good at keeping up with fiction for pleasure, unless the book is super-intriguing.

Read series or stand-alone?
Stand-alone. The exception of enjoying an entire literary series was when I read the “Harry Potter” books.

Read Science fiction or horror?
Science-fiction, most definitely. I don’t usually like horror.

Read Stephen King or Dean Koontz
Stephen King, at least his book, “On Writing”.

Read the book or watch the movie?
Watch the movie. Despite writing books, I have a better attention span with movies.

Read an ebook or paperback?
Paperback. I used to like eBooks. But I discovered that I understand the story better on print.

Be trapped alone for one month in a library with no computer or a room with a computer and Wi-Fi only?
Room with computer and Wi-Fi only.

Do a cross-country book store tour or blog tour online?
Blog tour. Cross-country book store tour would be too much for me at this point.
