Interview with Kaylene Winter
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
The focus of my book is really about a couple overcoming a challenge. I love writing romance, but all of my books are grounded in reality! I think everyone can relate to being in the honeymoon phase with their lover and then hitting the first speedbump and really having to figure out at the moment if you’re going to overcome it together or give up.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
I don’t want to give too much away, obviously, but it was important to me to bring light to some things that are commonly stigmatized – particularly, mental health issues. It’s not something to be ashamed about nor is it a death sentence that’s impossible to overcome. I put a lot of research and time into making sure that I treat all sensitive subjects that I include in my books with care and I hope that I did that and that readers feel educated, but most of all, full of hope.
What was the hardest part of writing this book?
It’s always nerve wracking when you get very real and you delve into issues that effect real people but I had to be honest to Ty and what he was telling me his story was.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I think I have a special affinity for the character of Ty. He didn’t ever let us get to know him completely and he only eluded to his past and we really needed to get to know more about him to understand why his journey unfolded the way it did
Where there alternate endings you considered?
No.
Can you share some stories about people you met while researching this book?
Yes. One of the women I used to work with when I was in the music industry has embarked upon a second career as a rockstar therapist and she’s inspired me to dive deep throughout the entire series to investigate the challenges that couples have when one of the partners has a job that thrusts you into the public eye and requires you to be away from home for such long periods of time.
What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
I love contemporary romance, that’s why I write it!

When she was only 15, Kaylene Winter wrote her first rocker romance novel starring a fictionalized version of herself, her friends and their gorgeous rocker boyfriends. After living her own rockstar life as a band manager, music promoter and mover and shaker in Seattle during the early 1990’s, Kaylene became a digital media legal strategist helping bring movies, television and music online.
