The Cruiser
Rowan Rossler
(The Hustlers Trilogy, #1)
Publication date: March 7th 2022
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Morgan de Rohan-Chabot is Monaco’s most notorious yacht designer. A maverick playboy with a reputation for leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake. Young, talented, not to mention sexy AF, he’s also got a boatload of attitude.

In other words, he’s my perfect public relations challenge. So what if he’s trouble with a capital T? I’m a pro. Vandana Hillman: The Queen of Luxury PR. My life’s just blown up, I need a distraction, and Morgan wants me to join him on the glittering shores of Monaco to help him land a conservative Saudi Prince as a client.

Ten days. In, out. No biggie, right?

What could possibly go wrong?

Interview with Rowan Rossler

How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?

The Cruiser is dedicated to my dear friend Tracey. She lived in Monaco for many years and worked as a yacht charter broker with Burgess yachts. My former partner was also obsessed with yachts, and the combination of his and Tracey’s influence inspired me to write this story. During my research, I didn’t come across any romance story that involved a yacht designer, so I knew it was an arena worth exploring.

What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?

The Cruiser is book one in The Hustlers trilogy, a loosely interconnected series about three BFF’s chasing their dreams and desires and navigating all the beautiful complications of falling in love. Book one had to set up all the friends and their situations and, based on feedback, I pulled it off!

What was the hardest part of writing this book?

Names of characters are very important to me. When I first started The Cruiser, I had a different name for Morgan, and I knew it wasn’t the right one. I wasn’t connecting with him. I cycled through a couple other names that also didn’t give me the right vibe. When I finally landed on Morgan it’s like the Red Sea parted and the sun shone bright! Later, when I looked up the name Morgan, I found out it meant “Sea-dweller.” How perfect is that for a yacht designer obsessed with the ocean? The universe works in mysterious ways!

The second hardest part was writing a good portion of each book in the trilogy in advance. I had to understand all the characters to know how the books and storylines would weave together. Now I know how JK Rowling felt mapping out seven books in advance. AHHHH!

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I spent all of September 2021 on the European Riviera attending yacht shows for research and hanging out with friends in Monaco, France and Italy. As you can imagine, it was an outrageously fun trip!

Where there alternate endings you considered?

In the romance genre, a happily ever after ending is the expectation. To deviate from that is to face the wrath of readers. In the end, Vandana and Morgan would reconnect. But both of them had to sort through their own issues and shortcomings first.

Can you share some stories about people you met while researching this book?

The yacht world is so interesting. I had a blast interviewing designers and other folks in the industry during the Genoa, Italy and Monaco yacht shows. Everyone was very generous with their time and insights. People are in that industry because they love it. They really enjoy the work. But what’s not to love about billionaires, the world’s most glamourous locations and beautiful works of art that float?

What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

I read a little bit of everything although my most favorite tends to be literary fiction. LF isn’t bound by genre expectations, so those stories can really fly far and wide and crazy. I always feel like a literary novel can go in any direction and that unexpectedness is appealing to me.

Author Bio:

An award-winning storyteller whipping up contemporary romance tales.

Every writer sprinkles their own brand of DNA magic into stories and my ingredients are: glamorous destinations, brilliant, sexy minds, and juicy plots with just the right amount of spice stirred in to kick things up a notch.
If you like all of the above, it might be love at first bite!

Vancouver, Canada is my current home, although I consider myself a citizen of the world. Sharp-dressed men make my day, calla lilies are my favourite flower, and if you ever come to visit, there’s always champagne on ice.
