Truth's Blood
It hadn't seemed possible that a president whose policies had impoverished millions could be reelected. It was the waning years of the American empire and the liberties represented in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were a fading memory. The government monitored every aspect of American life, and the drones buzzing overhead served as a constant reminder, but it was the governments reckless spending that brought the nation to its knees.
Now, the economy is in ruin, and the president's European style welfare state stands at the brink of collapse. The United States is unable to repay its debts. China has come seeking payment in real assets, and they mean business. Chaos reigns; power has been cut; select cities have been decimated by nuclear bombs; and burned out houses occupy neighborhoods like rotting teeth in the mouth of a crack addict. What was new is now old and what was old is now new again.
Cliffson Lang's son attempts to escape the fires and mobs overrunning the city of Seattle. When Cliffson is called away to help, his other son is kidnapped by occupying forces and placed in a work camp. Truth's Blood is the Lang family's story of survival at a time when government dependency must be replaced by self-reliance. As the United States experiences the disintegration of society and foreign occupation, their challenge verges on the impossible.
Truth's Blood
The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
It is 2016 and the world as we know it is changing. Some still believe in the government and the way they run the country and some see far more than the government would like. They see the truth behind all of the lies. The ones that see the truth are preparing for the changes coming that everyone will have to face. They live off the land by growing their own food, canning what they grow and stocking up.
When they hear that the Europeans has failed to pay China the money they borrowed back and China attacks them they all know it won't be long before China turns to the United States for the money they own them as well. Some of the American cities are targeted and blown up with nuclear bombs. The Chinese come into American and take over. They are determined to get their money that the US owns them one way or another. They start slowly taken away all of lives little necessities that everyone has depended on for so long like all or most of their whole lives. First the power goes off then they lose their water supply. They let them keep all their little toys like cell phones, cable and internet the longest. This is hard on the younger generation and probably some of older ones too. It's like what are they going to do if they never get it back? Work to survive like learn to live off the land in order to eat.
After the Chinese take over they come into people's homes and take whoever they want but mostly the young men who are able to work and place them in prison camps. Oh yeah they provide them with a place to sleep and food but very little. They are definitely going to get back the money the Americans owe them. The Chinese does not like to be embarrassed and will not be. They will make the countries that owe them pay with their lives if that is what it takes.
Cliffson and his wife Jean have been growing their own food and living with just the necessities of life their entire adult lives. They are part of the ones that saw what was coming and prepared for it. Cliffson and Jean have two grown sons, Dustin and Zach both of whom have their own lives and jobs in other cities to live. When the world turns to hell Cliffson calls both his sons home. Zach makes it home first but Dustin takes a friend of his home first and after dropping off his friend runs into to trouble with Americans no less. Dustin calls home and asks his father to come and help him which he does. While Cliffson is out trying to find Dustin and bring him home. Upon their return they find that the Chinese has been to their home and taken Zach to one their prison camps.
Cliffson is determined that he will get Zack back and bring him home. Cliffson and his friend Monk try on more than one occasion to rescue Zack but fail. And they return home without Zack. But saving his son and having his family back together is the only thing that keeps Cliffson going. Will they save Zack? Can they find out where the Chinese is keeping him a prisoner?
When I first started reading a Truth's Blood I thought man this is not exactly my kind of book it is not what I usually read. I mean it has no paranormal elements of any kind. I thought I am not going to like this book at all. So at first I will have to be honest and say it was kind of boring and I didn't like it. But I kept reading and I am so glad I did even though it is not what I am into at the moment. Truth's Blood is way better than I ever dreamed it would be. It has its ups and downs and I'm not talking about it not being a good book. I am talking about your emotions. At times I was laughing at Cliffson, Monk and Thomas with the things they would say to one another. They were always joking around with each other. There are times I needed a tissue for the things they went through. Most of the books I read yes I can feel what the characters must be feeling. But Truth's Blood was written in such away that you felt the characters lost and their hurt. You feel as if you are a part of Cliffson's, Jean's, Dustin's and Zach's family or at least as close a friend as Monk or Thomas and his family.
If you like reading dystopian books where it could actually become our future and a real tear jerker then you would love Truth's Blood. This is one book that is going to stay with me far into the future. I don't think I will forget it anytime soon especially the characters and what they went through. I very highly recommend this book to anyone who is ready to open their eyes and heart to what our future may hold for us.
