Book Description From Goodreads:

Throughout history there have been several thousand different strains of influenza. Each year hundreds are active. Chances are, this year, you will catch one of those strains. You will cough, sneeze, and your body will ache. Without a second thought, you’ll take a double dose of green liquid, go to bed, and swear you’ll feel better in the morning.

Not this time.

In 1918 forty million people succumbed to a particular strain of swine flu. It appeared out of nowhere, and just as quickly as it surfaced, the Spanish Flu vanished. Gone for good. Or so we thought. Though mankind has anticipated its resurfacing for some time, mankind is ill prepared. Mutated and with a vengeance, the Spanish Flu returns.

In a world blackened with plague, a glimmer of light exists in the small town of Lodi, Ohio. They shine as a sanctuary because they are ‘flu-free’ In the wake of the reality that they are spared, the spirit and strength of Lodi is tested. It becomes a fight against what is morally right or wrong in an increasingly difficult battle to stay healthy and alive until the flu has run its course.

My Review:

With most instances where you have a pandemic of the flu or a virus spreading throughout the world everyone is trying to keep it from spreading and getting out. Well not the Sheriff of Lodi, Ohio Mick, he is trying to keep the flu from getting in by quarantining the town off from the outside world. The flu is spreading like wild fire through the US and the world. The rate of getting the flu is way high about 90% of the people are catching it and dying. Mick figures if no one in Lodi has gotten the flu in Lodi yet then he needs to quarantine the town to keep them from getting it.

Lodi, Ohio is a very small town with only a few hundred people who live there if that. A small town where everybody knows everybody and their business. Dylan and Mick have been in a on and off again type relationship since high school. Dylan, Sam and Mick were best friends in high school and always hung out together. Dylan and Sam married and had three boys. Sam was one of those kinds of people who couldn't sit still or stay in one place for long and was always leaving Dylan and her boys. They never knew when he was leaving or when he was coming back. Whenever he left Dylan and Mick would always pick up their relationship where it left off from the last time Sam left. Dylan love Mick very much but she just had a very soft heart and never could say no to Sam besides he was the father of her boys.

The Flu is one of the best apocalyptic novels that I have had the opportunity to read ever. I love the small town setting. The people were all great and cared about each other like family. The whole town would get together on specific dates each year and have a big cook out. You get to know all of the characters and you feel as if you are a part of their lives. You sympathize with them if they are sad or upset about something then you can feel it too. There is a lot of sadness when reading The Flu and you will most definitely need not just one tissue but whole box. But don't let that stop you from reading it because it is a very great book. I wanted to keep reading and never putting it down. I really hated it when I turned the last page. The ending really surprised me I never expected it or may I was just in denial. I loved each and every character in the book. If any of them had not been there then it would not have been the same without them.

You know that moment in time when you are trying to decide what book you are going to read next and what genre you want to read? There are so many books out there it is so hard to choose sometimes. And every once in a while you find that one book that you keep trying to find again and again in another book. Well The Flu is one of those kind of books for me. Now when I am trying to find a good apocalyptic book to read I keep trying to find one that is like it but I have not found another book quite like it yet.

Thank you so very much for the AWESOME review of my book, The Flu. I am going to share your review if you don't mind. A Facebook friend saw this and pointed me your way. Thank you. I recently just sent back the final edits to Flu 2 (Permuted asked for a sequel. I had a short story written for my readers) and I think the novel is a nice follow up to put closure to everything.

When my book, The Nodding comes out this summer, I will send you a copy (You don' need to review it) It's for you, in hopes to show you there is a FLU equivalent out there. I'm hoping it's better.
