Excerpt:
‘Evie, I’m so sorry if I’ve scared you, but it was something you needed to understand. I will happily protect you as a human girl, as that was my original plan,’ Sebastian said quietly once they were safely indoors.
Genevieve brushed the tears from her cheeks angrily.
‘I’m not scared, Sebastian… well I was, it was terrifying, but that’s not it. That’s not why I’m crying.
Sebastian stood still and watched her, a frown creasing his brow.
‘What then?’ he asked.
‘What do you think? You did it for me. You stole my revenge. I wanted to kill them and I wanted them to know why. I wanted them as terrified as my mother had been… and you took that away from me!’ Genevieve stormed up the stairs into the main living rooms, Sebastian at her heels.
‘Evie, you couldn’t have managed it. Not in their lifetime anyway. I am hundreds of years old and even I found it torturous toward the end.
You don’t understand yet. The scent of their blood, the adrenalin running through your veins, every bit of instinct within you is primed to kill, to feed, to tear out their jugular and drain every last drop. The only way we can survive as a species is to go undetected, which is why for the first fifty years you will be tied to me and I will be responsible for your actions.’
‘You could have helped me. We could have done it together,’ Genevieve said quietly.
‘Maybe I could, but revenge is not a reason to become one of us. How long did it take me to kill them all? Three minutes? Less? And then it’s over and you will spend eternity like this. I will change you Evie, but only with you knowing the full story, and not for revenge.
‘But there is still one woman left, one you didn’t kill,’ Genevieve said quietly.
‘I couldn’t find her,’ Sebastian said frowning.
‘I will,’ Genevieve smiled, before turning and walking towards the bedroom, Sebastian following.
My Review::
The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I was given a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Genevieve and her mother are only trying to stay alive and are running out of food. Genevieve heads out during the night to scrounge for food. She left her mother in an abandon cottage. Her mother is too weak to keep going. She has lost her father, brother and her best friend Marie.
When she made it back to their hideout she saw three men and two women with more men inside the cottage. She watched as they dragged her mother out of the cottage and the women started fussing over which one of them would get her clothes. Genevieve was so scared she didn't know what to do. She had no weapons to help her with trying to save her mother. But that didn't stop her she ran in anyway the whole time thinking she couldn't lose her mother not after losing the rest of her family she would have no one and she would be all alone in this miserable life. To Genevieve being dead was better than being alone. But Genevieve didn't get what she wanted as she was running in to save her mother or try to save her a man Sebastian swooshed in and took her away as if he had been a tornado.
Sebastian gave Genevieve the choice of if she wanted to be a vampire. He would protect her as a human girl even if she chose not to become a vampire. But Genevieve knows that being a vampire in that day and time was the only way to survive. Besides she wants revenge for her mother's death. She wants to kill the people who took her mother's life. Sebastian shows her want it will be like when she is turned to help her to better make her choice. All she wants is a new life, a new name and revenge for her mother. That is so sad she feels dead inside. She has lost everything. The world and the people running it have taken away her life and any dreams she may have had. She feels like a canoe after its insides has been scraped out, hollow. She feels like she is no more, like her mother is no more.
Whenever Sebastian gives her a command she has no choice but to obey. She literally could not disobey him it was like invisible iron shackles had been placed on her ankles. If he told her to stay and not leave the room she actually could not leave. But he had to give her a specific command at a specific time. He had to tell her everytime he wanted her to do something. He was Genevieve's master.
After being turned she could hear heart beats on the street she could hear everything. She was a lot stronger. The need to feed was very strong and caused her pain. But if Sebastian told her stop feeding she stopped she had no control over her own body when he gave her a command.
Sebastian is having a difficult time teaching Eva, as she wants to be called now, all the rules that she must go by and as to why she has to follow the rules. She is a newborn and the only thing she thinks about is feeding and trying to put the fire out that consumes her entire being.
She thinks they can just kill all the humans. She isn't thinking that if they killed all the humans then they would die because they would no longer have any food, they would starve.
Well, well Emma has done it again, written another master piece. Genevieve is just as good or maybe even better than her other books Witchblood, Witchcraft and Witchlove. Her writing just gets better and better. Although I do love Eva's story and would love to know more about her life I still like Jessica's story better. I guess I am just playing favorites with Jessica and Daniel.
I highly recommend the Witcblood series and Genevieve: A Witchblood Story to anyone who likes reading a good story. Not to mention having vampires and witches thrown in for a little added flavor. Do you like chocolate?
