Peerless
By- Victoria Escobar
Genre- NA Urban Fantasy

Without the touch of time affecting her, Tiranna has spent the last two thousand years protecting dangerous artifacts that have the potential to destroy the world. Her distinctive magic makes her one of the most powerful, and at times, one of the most feared.

When she finds a demonic artifact that shouldn't exist, she fears the return of a long-forgotten demon that has a single goal: create his version of Hell on earth. The world she spent her life protecting, could be lost.

Time never concerned her before, but now it's her worst enemy. Only she has the power to destroy the demon masquerading as a black witch. All she has to do is figure out how.

And now an Excerpt from Peerless

He reached out and caressed his fingertips lightly down her cheek. "I am sorry we quarreled."

"So am I." Tiranna said softly.

He nodded. "I must be going. Seiryu's patience is not long." He smiled once more. "I will try to see you before you leave. The water will help your companion's scar. Three times a day if you're not staying long. But perhaps for now you should take further rest in the library or have tea. Maho can set it up for you, you've only to ask." He turned and walked slowly away.
Tiranna slumped tiredly and straightened instantly when her slump dropped her against Averill's bare chest. "Why are you so close?" she asked without turning.

"In case you needed me. What did you quarrel over?" Averill asked using their word for the argument.

Tiranna rested her now healed hand on the head of a statue. "This."

Averill cocked his head and studied it.

A little boy, around ten at most was bent at his waist in a forty five degree angle. His hands were above his head offering a tray that had clean, dry towels folded on it. He saw nothing unusual about it.

"I don't understand." He said as she pulled a towel off the tray and wrapped herself in it.
"The little boy peed in the hot springs. Suzaku was, and reasonably, furious at the…heresy. But his punishment… This is the child's punishment. He will forever serve the hot springs to pay for the insult. It stands as a reminder that Suzaku's laws are to be obeyed by all regardless of age."

Averill studied the boy again. "Not so different from a witch that demanded service without the proper attitude."

Tiranna stopped knotting the towel and just stared at the little boy a moment. "No, I suppose not."
