Author Interview-
What inspired you to write Enchanted Revenge?
Well, I was supposed to be
writing the final installment of my Paranormal Romance series. But I kept
thinking about Lily. (who at the time, hadn’t been named) And the more I
thought about writing, the less I thought about my other series, and the more
defined did the Empyrean become. Alec grew on me. And Lily’s thoughts and fears
kept shouting at me to be written down.
Really, it all started because I like reading YA. I like fairies, though I
hadnt read a fairy book that I really liked in a long time. And I wanted to
write something DIFFERENT about fairies.
When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I wrote my first book when I was
in third grade, by filling up a 250 page spiral notebook. I dont remember now
what it was about, and I lost it in a move several years ago. But I guess, I
could say, since I was in third grade.
What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?
Wow, maybe third grade.
I dont know. I remember I read a
lot when I was 12. But I dont really remember what all I read. I remember when
I started reading this Amelia Atwater-Rhodes book, and I thought it was so
cool, because she published her first book when she was 13!
What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
YA! Paranormal Romance. Urban
Fantasy. Middle Grade. NA. Chick lit.
What is your favorite book?
I have no idea. There is
absolutely NO way for me to decide on only one book to be my favorite.
You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite
author and why?
I love a LOT of authors. For
different reasons each. But probably my favorite, if I really had to choose
only one, would be Jennifer L Armentrout. Because, not only does she write
AWESOME books, but she write for different age groups (YA, NA, and Adult) and she
write in different genres (Romance, Paranormal, Fantasy, Contemporary) But she
writes FAST. So, as a reader she's awesome, because she puts out a LOT of GREAT
books, but as a writer, she's an inspiration.
If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time.
Where would you go and why?
I like now. I might like to see the future, and try to change it. But I
wouldn't want to change the past, because of how it would ripple out and affect
my time. I think I’d be too scared to see the past. It was brutal and violent.
And women were always treated horribly. If there was a group of Amazon women
ever, then I’d want to go there and at that time.
When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is
it a difficult task?
Depends on what I’m writing and
how situated my head is. Sometimes I write super fast and it flows out so
easily. But sometimes it definitely is a struggle.
For example, when I wrote Enchanted Revenge, I wrote almost the entire first
draft (76,000 words in ONE month) Thats fast and it was effortless. (Until the
editing started...lol)
But right now I feel like I
should be working on the third Empyrean Chronicles book (the second is going to
be published Nov 2, 2015). But I don't want to write it right now. What little
I’ve written on it has been a struggle. What I want to write is a new Middle
Grade novel. And when I’m writing that, its flowing easily.
So, it depends.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I have a dog - half labrador and
half blue heeler- named Belle. She is still a puppy, though she is WAY too big
and does NOT look like a puppy anymore. She jumps way too much, and scares my
kids still, even though she just wants to lick them and play. :(
I also have a cat named Mickey, who everyone loves unconditionally. even though
he purposely terrorizes the kids. Ironic, I know.
What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?
Chocolate. Thats it. Just
chocolate.
Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?
Read a lot. And write, even when you dont feel
like it, and even when you dont want to.
