Soulless by Jacinta Maree
(The Immortal Gene #1)
Publication date: October 1st 2015
Genres: Dystopia, New Adult, Supernatural

Synopsis:

Welcome to Soulless.
We are the generation that laughs at death.

Reincarnation; what was once considered a gift of immortality has become an eternity of nightmares.

Nadia Richards lives in a world plagued by reincarnation, a system of recycling souls where all past memories, personalities and traumatic events are relived daily in disjointed sequences. Trapped within their own warped realities, not even the richest and most powerful are saved from their own minds unraveling. Madness is the new human nature, and civilizations are crumpling beneath themselves trying to outrun it.

Within a society that ignores death, Nadia appears to be the one exception to the reincarnation trap. Born without any reincarnated memories and with printless eyes, the hot tempered 19 year old quickly becomes the ultimate prize to all those wishing to end the vicious cycle, or for some, to ensure they could evade death forever.

Readers discretion: Adult language, violence and some adult scenes. For mature audiences only.

My Review:

I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.

In Soulless you have two kinds of people. The first are the rich folks who have everything they could ever want or ask for. And the second group of people are the poor folks who have nothing and are very lucky they have a roof over their heads. They have to stand in line day after day hoping to reach the front of the line to their food. Nadia goes every day to stand in this line hoping she will make it to the front this time so that she can get some milk for her little sister whom she loves very much and would do anything for.

I said they were only two kinds of people in Soulless well they are but there is one exception to this. You see everyone in Soulless are reincarnated. Every time they die they always come back as someone else and they remember their past lives. This can be very upsetting for everyone weather they are rich or poor. Reincarnation does not play favorites when it comes to making people go insane living with so many lives or people in their heads. Yes they remember each and every life they have ever lived which causes madness for them. Or it would without the medication that they have been taking for years that help them to deal with the different lives or people inside of them.

But there is one girl Nadia who is nineteen years old that has no past lives or memories of any. Nadia has no imprint as they call it. Each person’s eyes is scanned so that they know who they are and who they were in their past lives. But with Nadia the scans does not work because she has no past lives. She is Soulless. She has no imprints.

Nadia’s little sister has started having nightmares which is really just her remembering her past lives. She is tested all the time to see if she has done bad things in her past lives and if she has then she will then be blacklisted and taken away from Nadia and her family. But of course their parents don’t care. These days there is no love of any kind everyone is out for number one and number one only.
Families will sell their own children if the need arises just so they can have food to eat. No one cares or trust anyone but their own selves anymore. Well except Nadia she has a great big heart hidden under all that toughness that she portrays to the world. But she has to hide her big ole’ softly of a heart or it could get her killed. In this world you either fight or die.

When Nadia’s parents sell her to be tested on to try and find a cure for the reincarnation of every soul. Nadia realizes that she is all alone now and she must do whatever she has to; to stay alive and help protect her little sister one day. So she does the only thing she can and that is to leave the city with a known criminal just to survive. She has no real idea if she can trust this guy or not he may want to do the same thing to her but she must take her chances and hopefully something will come up in her favor outside the city.

Diesel is a man who has lived many lives and has done what he had to do to survive in each one. He is also after Nadia as well as most everyone else in the world who knows that she exist. He is the one that Nadia has decided to trust at the moment. I mean she doesn’t have a choice at this time in her life. She can’t escape on her own and he is the only one stepping up to the podium offering to help her get away at the moment so she takes it.

Being on the outside is not what Nadia expected but it is better than what she would have gone through on the inside. She meets quite a few different types of characters on the outside. Some who were good to her and some who were not. She had to do somethings that she never thought she would ever have to do to survive. It makes her re-evaluate who she is. Is she a good person? Is she a bad person? Can she be trusted by anyone?

I really loved, loved did I mention that I loved reading Soulless? I have been hooked on dystopian books for a long time now and I have wonder a lot about reincarnation for a while as well so when I read the summary for Soulless I knew I had to read it. I loved the world that Jacinta Maree created in Soulless and I also felt for the characters as well.

Soulless will grab you by the seat of your pants and won’t let go until you have read the very last word and even then it will still stay with you for a long time to come. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I need to know more about Nadia, Diesel and her little sister as well as some of the other characters too. If you are into dystopia or even reincarnation books then Soulless is one book you don’t want to miss out on.  It will take you for a whirlwind of a ride.

Lovely review! I love dystopian books but something they cal all feel like the same story over and over, this one sounds like it really has something unique to it with the reincarnation! Glad you liked it! :)
