Blurb:
Avalon wakes up from a 100 year old cryosleep in a new
habitat with few memories and lots of questions. At first, HOPE (Humanity's One
Plan for Escape) habitat appears to be a well-oiled machine, preparing 5,000
carefully chosen inhabitants for a new Earth. However, a medical assistant
named Ilium reveals that certain members of the habitat have been falling ill
from a mysterious virus they were inoculated against. Soon, HOPE habitat's
tranquil illusion is shattered as Avalon plays a perplexing message left by her
father. If Avalon is to survive this dangerous new environment, she will have
to find the strength to navigate a habitat enveloped in secrets.
My Review:
A huge asteroid hits the earth destroying it and everyone on
it with the exception of about 5,000 who were put in cyrosleep for about 100
years in a cave in the mountain.
Avalon Adams, one of the few that were chosen to be a part
of HOPE (Humanity's One Plan for Escape) habitat and she is also the daughter
of the man who predicted the asteroid hitting the earth, wakes up earlier than
expected. When learning that she woke early it starts a whole lot of questions
about some of the things that is going on in the habitat.
Avalon tries to follow all the rules and do the right thing
but sometimes the rules are not right. When people start turning up missing or
dead she wants to know why. So Avalon starts her own little investigation that
could end up costing her, her life or maybe someone else’s’.
If rules are broken and you get three strikes then you are expelled
from the habitat. Being expelled from the habitat could be very dangerous to
human life as there would probably be no water or if there was then it would
not be safe for human consumption and it would also be too cold not to mention
the wild life if any were to survive, what about the mutation of said life form?
After Impact is Nicole Stark’s debut novel and for a first
novel I would have to say it is very well written. It kept me on the edge of my
seat from beginning to end rushing through the pages as if I had an asteroid on
my tail. I loved the world that the author created for the habitat with the air
locks and the cyrosleep chambers. I would like to have known more about the
characters themselves and what their life was like before they woke up in the
cyrosleep chambers and the asteroid. Who were they? What happened in the time
right before the asteroid hit? What will they find on the outside? What is the
world like one hundred years After Impact? I can’t wait to give the next book
in the series a shot.

I really liked it too. I just would like the next one to develop a closer relationship between the main characters and the secondary ones.
