SOAK UP THE SUN
Tanith Davenport
GENRE: Erotic Romance
BLURB:
A weekend of summer fun leads to a passionate escape in the sun.
When Tamarie Morgan goes to PeakFest with her friends, her primary concern is avoiding her friend Veca’s creepy boyfriend, Sy, who drunkenly assaulted her two months previously and has refused to leave her alone ever since. However, when Tamarie is checking out the stalls and connects with Kaleb McAdams, the drummer for headline act Puppetmaster, a heated encounter backstage leads to Kaleb inviting her to ditch the festival with him. Kaleb wants her to be his plus-one at lead singer Cassian’s wedding—and when Veca and Sy break up the following day and start packing to leave, Tamarie and her friend Dannika decide to take Kaleb up on his offer.
Tamarie is initially impressed by the glitz and glamour of being a rockstar girlfriend, even for a short period of time, but is abruptly brought back down to earth when the press get a compromising photograph of her and her reputation is called into question. She soon realises that for her Kaleb is more than a brief fling, but when the other band members’ plus-ones tell her being a rockstar girlfriend has an expiry date, Tamarie finds herself wondering if they’re right. Will Kaleb still want her after the wedding is over, and can she deal with all that being a rockstar girlfriend involves?
Excerpt:
Looking at a silver bead necklace, Tamarie caught a glimpse of somebody out of the corner of her eye—a tall, athletic-looking man in a KISS T-shirt and jeans. She couldn’t help noticing he looked as though he was wearing a very poor disguise, his eyes hidden behind designer sunglasses and his hair covered by a black-and-white bucket hat.
The same man as earlier.
He definitely looked as though he was trying not to be spotted, and yet was extremely noticeable.
As he moved round a rack of shirts his sunglasses slipped a little, and Tamarie got a better look at his face. Her heart instantly leapt into her throat.
It was Kaleb McAdams, the drummer from Puppetmaster.
Though she had seen the band on stage before, she had never got a good look at Kaleb in person—he was always at the back behind the drums. Her recognition came entirely from photos in magazines and on posters. His short brown hair, his high cheekbones, his chiselled jaw, the leather jacket he always wore over his shirt.
This was definitely him under the sunglasses and the hat. Although obviously the disguise wasn’t as bad for everyone else as it was for her, because nobody seemed to be noticing him. Even Dannika was casually flipping her way through a collection of dangly earrings, blissfully unaware of who was a few feet away from them.
As she watched him, Kaleb looked up and caught her eye. A slow grin spread across his face and he lifted one finger to his lips in a shushing motion.
My Review:
I love the title of Tanith Davenport’s book Soak up the Sun. I fell in love with the title when I first saw it but fell more in love with it when I figured out what the title meant and how it was related to the story.
I really enjoy reading the Rock My World Series or at least the ones I have read so far. The first book in the Rock My World Series I read is book four, Making It Hard. I have also read book five Get Out Of Here and of course, book six Soak up the Sun.
Each book has its own set of unique characters whom I have grown to love while reading their stories. I can’t wait to read more in this series and be introduced to more of its wonderful characters and their lives.
Tamarie Morgan goes to PeakFest with her friends for a fun weekend. Tamarie likes spending time with her friends but doesn’t like her friend Veca’s creepy boyfriend, Sy. Sy took advantage of Tamarie a few months back and ever since he thinks he can touch her whenever he wants. Veca doesn’t know about what happened. Veca and Tamarie learn on this trip that she is not the only one he has done this to.
While Tamarie is out browsing the stalls at PeakFest she runs into Kaleb McAdams, the drummer for headline act Puppetmaster. Kaleb and Tamarie hit it off right away. Kaleb picks up real quick on Sy and what kind of person he is. He helps Tamarie out by keeping her by his side for the rest of the weekend. Kaleb invites Tamarie to be his plus-one at the lead singer's wedding the next day. Tamarie thinks why not and tags along.
Tamarie learns from the rest of the band’s plus-ones not to expect any relationship between her and Kaleb to last because none ever does. Tamarie is upset at hearing this little piece of information as she finds herself liking Kaleb more than she thought possible in such a short time.
Is that all Tamarie means to Kaleb? Will Kaleb still want her after the wedding is over? Will their relationship continue to grow? Will Kaleb give them a chance to become more?
Soak up the Sun is a short read and can be read alone. But even though it is a short read it sure packs a punch and reads more like a full-length novel. I love the Rock My World stories just like they are, short and sweet. After reading a Rock My World story it leaves you with a warm and cozy feeling.
I highly recommend Soak up the Sun and all the books in the Rock My World series. Grab a copy of Soak up the Sun today. While you are at it why not pick up another one or pick up a copy of every book in the series!
