What is the price paid for the creation of a perfect society?

In Whitopolis, a gleamingly white city of the future where illness has been eradicated, shock waves run through the populace when a bedraggled, dirt-stricken boy materialises in the main street. Led by government propaganda, most citizens shun him as a demon, except for Wellesbury Noon – a high school student the same age as the boy.

Upon befriending the boy, Wellesbury feels a connection that he can’t explain – as well as discovering that his new friend comes from a land that is stricken by disease and only has two weeks to live. Why do he and a girl named Ezmerelda Dontible appear to be the only ones who want to help?

As they dig deeper, everything they know is turned on its head – and a race to save one boy becomes a struggle to redeem humanity.

My Review of Black & White #1:

Imagine living in a world where there was no dirt, dust, mud, germs, illness or diseases, a world where everything is white from the walls to the floors to the ceiling and all clothing and shoes are all white as well, a world that is devoid of color.

Imagine living in this perfect world where disease and dirt does not exist and then seeing a boy appear in the middle of the street out of nowhere and this boy has this brown stuff all over his body and his clothes are ragged and torn.

This boy explains that the brown stuff is dirt and you have no idea what that word means. You realize that something is not right with this boy and he explains that he is sick and only has couple of weeks to live and you have no idea what he is referring too.

In your world you have no need to know these words like dirt and disease so there for you have no knowledge of these words and are very confused about the boys statements. This boy explains to you that he is from another place that you have never heard of so what do you do? Well you are definitely curious so you start an investigation and when you do your world is turned upside down and you have a lot of question that could get you into big trouble with the government and the people in charge.

The boy who has opened this can of worms is Wellesbury Noon and when he hears about this boy and all these words that he is not familiar with it opens up his mind and he starts to wonder what these words mean. Wellesbury decides to go see the boy and finds out that is name is Mallinger and about his illness.

Wellesbury feels a deep connection with the boy and wants to help him. Wellesbury cannot explain this connection that he feels with the boy. Wellesbury runs into to a girl, Ezmerelda Dontible who has taken an interest into this boy, Mallinger too and both decide to help Mallinger.

When I read the summary for Black & White I knew I had to read and now after reading it I wonder what took me so long to pick it up but once I did pick up I couldn’t put it down. Black & White had me from hello so to speak. It grabbed a hold of me from the first word and pulled me into its world and once I was there I was lost. It took me on a whirlwind of a ride from up high in a disease free world down into its depth to a world that is riddle with disease.

I loved the whole concept of the idea behind Black & White and how it relates to our own world. It shows how people that live in different parts of the world and how their lives are as different as light and dark. It shows how people who have the resources need to stand up and fight for those who do not have those resources. We need to stand together and fight as one as we are one.

It is like my husband says we know how to grow food so no one should go hungry, we know how to make electricity so no one should be without lights, we know how to build houses so no one should be homeless, we know how to heal so no one should be sick.

I would highly recommend Black & White to anyone who loves a good dystopian and anyone who loves a heartfelt and warming story line.

Wellesbury Noon and Ezmerelda Dontible have found themselves in a position where they can make their native land somewhere that lives up to its name: Harmonia. However, they’re setting their sights further afield for their number one task: eradicating the disease that has plagued the neighbouring country of Loretania for generations and allowed the privileged Harmonians to live in a sterile environment.

After dispatching a team of scientists to Loretania, armed with cratefuls of an antidote and vaccine and headed up by their friend, Dr George Tindleson, Welles, Ez, and Welles’s brother Mal – who grew up in that benighted nation – start to worry when they hear nothing back, despite what they had agreed. Commandeering a fishing boat to follow the science team over the sea, they soon find that, while the disease may be on the way out, a new kind of infection has set in – the corruption they thought they had stamped out in Harmonia.

Can they get to the root of the problem and eradicate it before even more damage is done to an innocent people?

*** Warning – this book contains themes that some sensitive readers may find upsetting.

My Review of Corruption #2:

After finally getting everyone in Harmonia to listen to them and see their way into curing his brother Malinger from the disease that has plagued the people of Loretania, Wellesbury Noon and Ezmerelda Dontible now want to help Malinger’s family and everyone else in Loretania.

Dr George Tindleson, a scientist friend of theirs is sent along with other scientist and doctors with a cargo full of the cure to Loretania to distribute to everyone in Loretania. Welles, Ez and Mal want to accompany their friend on his journey but are not allowed as it would not be in their best interest and they would probably be more in the way than they would be helping besides they have school to attend.

Dr. Tindleson promises that after he inoculates everyone in Loretania in a few weeks he will return to Harmonia to give them an update as to how everything is going but when a couple of weeks go by with no sign of the Dr. they start to worry and to make plans to go to Loretania to see what is going on.

I have fallen in love with this world that the author has created for the Black & White Trilogy. A world filled with corruption. One world is disease free and as white as the driven snow with no dirt or germs and another is filled with germs and dirt with mud everywhere as different as two peas in a pod.

Corruption is just as enthralling as the first book Black & White and pulled me in from the beginning. Once I picked it up I couldn’t seem to put it down. I can’t wait for the next book in the trilogy to see where our friends take us next.

While Corruption answered a lot of questions left from Black & White it still left a lot of questions unanswered leaving me looking forward to the next book. Both books left unanswered questions but each book closed a chapter so to speak but at the same time it still left me wanting more but in my opinion that is good right I mean how else is the author going to keep you coming back for more.  That is what a good story does, right?

I would recommend Corruption to all fans of dystopian books with little mystery between its pages.

The Treatment
Black & White Prequel

The Treatment explains how the dystopian world of the Black & White Trilogy came into being.

My Review of The Treatment Prequel:

The Treatment is a great introduction into the world of the Black & White Trilogy. The Treatment gives us background information on how their world was taken over by the Reform and changed their lives forever.

The Treatment tells how families are ripped apart and some are taken away for what they believe is to be for treatment but are forced to live in the worse conditions imaginable. They are dumped there not knowing what is going on back at home and what is happening to their families and no way home.

The Treatment is a very short read but reads like a full length novel giving you more information than you would ever imagine in such a short book. It fills you with a lot of information on how everything began in the Black & White series.

If you are looking for a way to fill some time for a few minutes and would like to fill that time reading and would also like to know if the Black & White Trilogy is something you would like to read then check out The Treatment.
