Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama
by William A. Glass
GENRE: Family Drama
BLURB:
Cindy and Dave Knight got married too young. Several years later they are trying to make the best of it. He is a salesman on the fast track with a prestigious corporation. She is the indispensable assistant to a prominent Broadway producer. They own an apartment in Manhattan and enjoy knocking around the city together. However, Dave's erratic behavior and career obsession strain the relationship. Can it be saved?
PURCHASE Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama on AMAZON and BARNES AND NOBLE
Excerpt:
As Dave waits for the other P&G reps, he listens to a cassette and tries not to be depressed by the view through his windshield. It’s late fall, and only a few withered leaves dangle from the branches of nearby trees. They flicker uncertainly in the faint breeze, as if toying with the idea of finally giving up and letting go.
A Chevy pulls into the trash-strewn parking lot, followed by another. They’re P&G fleet cars, so now Dave yanks off his tie, tucks it into a jacket pocket, and follows the other salesmen into the establishment.
After paying five bucks to a scar-faced, leather-jacketed bouncer sitting just inside the door, Dave sees that the interior of the place is as bad as he expected. A plywood bar runs along the back of the room, and every stool is taken by guys who look like they just got off from factory jobs. The walls and exposed heating and air-conditioning ducts are carelessly painted a drab black. Raucous music blares from two stadium speakers that hang from the rafters.
Since seating is limited at the bar, groups of men stand behind it holding highballs or beer bottles. Most are smoking, and embers glow in the darkened room. A spotlight cuts through the haze, shining on the reason all these gentlemen are here. She’s a dark-haired beauty dancing on top of the bar, completely nude other than a garter on her thigh crammed with cash. The girl holds a scarf and uses it to briefly cover various parts of her body to temporarily frustrate the crowd.
My Review:
Cindy and Dave Knight have been married for several years. Cindy and Dave have an open relationship but are not open to swapping. Cindy and Dave believe having an open relationship is what has kept them married for so many years.
Dave says he is not open to swapping but the first chance he gets he invites this woman, a woman that he met with her husband and the four of them went out together later without his wife or her husband knowing Dave invites her out for a drink.
Cindy and Dave’s marriage is a little rocky. Cindy is getting tired of some of Dave’s ways. After a while, married people start to get comfortable with each other and start to totally be themselves because they no longer see a need to impress the other I guess. Dave also has a very stressful job that keeps him away from home a lot leaving Cindy alone.
Can Cindy and Dave save their marriage? Do they even want to try? Do they even have a problem with their marriage? Do they like things the way they are? How perfect are their lives for them?
Off Broadway is a book about everyday life drama. Drama about home life and work life. Drama about couples and how their lives change over time. About how each other needs and wants change as they grow older.
