Excerpt Tour + #Giveaway: Icarus Over Collins by Hector Duarte Jr. @GoddessFish

Icarus Over Collins

by Hector Duarte, Jr.

GENRE: Contemporary Fiction (Bilingual Spanish/English)

BLURB:

After her friend Sandy Mangual tragically falls to his death, Bailey Cohen discovers images of his grisly corpse have been uploaded and shared through social media, by someone very close to her.

Fed up, in a stagnant relationship with an emotionally-abusive boyfriend, Bailey enlists the help of quiet, unnoticed, underappreciated Bernardo Castillo, who works the luxury Miami Beach high rise in which she stays.

Bernardo will have to dredge up the shady past he’s long worked to tamp down in order to set off on a journey of vengeance that will reshape and morph each person engulfed along its way.

Icarus Over Collins is a short, punchy revenge story as cracked and slivered as hot Miami pavement.

Excerpt:

Who knew getting my ass kicked would cause enough of a blip to get me internationally noticed? Bernardo Castillo stormed into the apartment like the border-hopping thug he is and beat the fuck out of me because, surprise, surprise, that’s all he knows how to do. All he’s good for. Hence, he spends a night in prison while I’m in a luxury high rise licking my wounds.

I should’ve stomped over to The Landings and smashed Bailey’s face deep into the wall. Show Castillo what happens when he’s in there and I’m out here. Instead, I watch her little dot on the tracking app. A red dot right across the street. A doppler radar mapping the crazy storm sweeping everyone up in its anarchic funnel.

After Castillo turned himself in to the cops like a fucking martyr, Schecter scrambled upstairs with an apology. I screamed he’d better fire that asshole pronto and slammed the door in his face.

I did one better. A call to mom and dad, next morning Schecter’s out of there. Who the fuck cares? That’ll teach him.

Turns out, I’m on unofficial house arrest. What with The Landings and Las Brisas being the media hotspots they are these last couple of days. When I went downstairs to the mailboxes and peeked outside the windows, photographers snapped away at an attention-craving mob.
