Sometimes genuine love requires uncompromising sacrifice.

It's easy to make an idol of routine—finding comfort in the boundaries set before you. Something About Ruth is an intricately woven, magnificently crafted story about three ordinary strangers, who, after Katrina, are plucked from their own securities and set against unordinary circumstances. But fate brings them together.

Ruth, an outsider.

Naomi, a wounded mother.

Boaz, a no-nonsense man of character.

The path that brings them all together is scarred with the pain of loss, the bitterness of starting over, and the faith that sustains them.

"If the author doesn't put this on audio, AND have the screenplay written for a 90 minute TV movie, she is doing her talent a disservice!"

Interview with JC Miller

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I'm honored to say that Something About Ruth is my seventh novel. Of course I want to say it's my favorite, but for sentimental reasons my junior project, My Name is Mary Magdalene, is my favorite.

If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?

Something About Ruth is actually the third spin-off from a trilogy. As of right now, it's safe to say that that ship has sailed--there are no plans of a sequel. However, I am looking forward to branching these novels out onto the big screen.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

Besides the trilogy, I hope that I have written the books in a way that each can stand-alone yet connect to each other. It is always fun to hear readers say that they picked up another one of the books because they wanted to hear from the other characters. It's satisfying to know that all the books congealed. Can you say mini-series!

How did you come up with the title for your book?

That's a long story. The short answer is that all my novels start with pronouns. I Am Rahab: A Novel, They Call me Gomer, My Name is Mary Magdalene, and finally Something About Ruth. As you can see I ran out of pronouns...it's just something about Ruth. Lol!

How long did it take you to write this book?

This book took around a year to write--completely on my cell phone, in very short segments while on breaks during work.

What does the title mean?

Seriously, Something About Ruth, as well as the biblical book--titled Ruth, is actually about three people. There was obviously something about Ruth that encouraged us to choose her as the lead.

What did you learn when writing the book?

In this book I re-learned that slow and steady wins the race. It was a slow steady process to write that involved time and patience. As with life, it takes time to get to know people. I learned who these people were.

Have you ever killed off a character your readers loved?

Unfortunately, yes. A few.

What do you do to get inside your character’s heads?

For me, in writing these types of books that are based on people in the Bible, it starts with studying them in the Word. Their stories tell me who they were. How you handle situations and people reveals your character. We don't read much about Rahab in the Bible but from her short story I wrote a trilogy. The same with Ruth. From her four chapter story, I gathered that she was loyal, hard working, intuitive, smart, loving, faithful, committed and obedient. She was also young, beautiful and most likely ostracized from being a foreigner. Like Rahab, Ruth was also from a worldly culture, yet she left it all to follow a God she'd just begun to know.

Through the lives of these great unseen women of the Bible we witness God, the same YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER and we peek into His heart and plans for us that also never change
