WANTED: Dead or Undead
Trace Monroe doesn't believe in luck. He never has. But when a fiery-headed cowgirl saunters through the saloon doors, wielding shotguns and a know-how for killing the living dead, he believes he just may be the luckiest man alive.
Trace wants to join Red's posse, but she prefers to work alone--less messy that way. In order to become her traveling companion, Trace has to agree to her terms: no names, no questions, and if he gets bit, he can't beg for mercy when she severs his brain stem.
He agrees, knowing only that Red is the sharpest shooter he's ever encountered. The fact she's stunning hasn't escaped his attention either.
What he doesn't know, is that Red has a very good reason to be on top of her game. She not only has the answer for how they can all outlive the plague taking over the wild, wild west, she IS the answer.
EXCERPT
WANTED: Dead or Undead
Sunken features, decaying flesh and teeth that ground and snapped against themselves-Bill was dead all right. Sure, he walked around grunting, but that was only a technicality.
Zombie Bill lunged at the man closest to the door, ripped a chunk of flesh from the screaming man's neck, and howled as warm blood gurgled between his teeth.
"He's got it a'right!" someone yelled.
Beer bottles and whisky jugs exploded from ill-aimed bullets. Wood chips showered down from the rafters and the air filled with the metallic smell of gun smoke. Trace fired a shot or two of his own, but decided his best option was to find some sort of shelter-drunks made horrible shooters. He pushed the poker table over on its side and hunkered down behind it. It was better than nothing.
The old poker player crouched beside him. "Don't go thinking we're through just 'cause a zombie walked in here and stopped me from killing you."
Trace shook his head. "No, sir, I figured we were just having ourselves an intermission." He aimed his gun over the top of the table and watched Zombie Bill continue forward, his body riddled with bullet holes. The dead man wouldn't die.
MY REVIEW
WANTED: Dead or Undead
The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I received a copy of WANTED: Dead or Undead from the author via Innovative Online Book Tours.
If anyone knows anything about me they should know that I love reading books about zombies. The only show on tv that I watch is The Walking Dead. I love zombies and I actually don't think that a zombie apocalypse is that far fetched. Hey it could happen. Who knows what is being studied at the CDC. Oh and scientist you know that they have heard about zombies. I mean I don't think all them only do research. Speaking of research how do we know what they have been experimenting with. It is probably one those things like "I can do this, I can create zombies". Sometimes we just see things as a challenge.
I have read a few western books and liked them but not one with zombies in it. I love the Lonesome Dove books and movies. I loved finding a zombie book that was set in the old west. I think that I was born in the wrong time period and should have been born back in the days of the old west time period instead. Ok, ok enough about me. You didn't come to hear about me or what I like, I know you want to read a review about WANTED: Dead or Undead.
Well if you haven't figured it out yet then let me tell you I really loved it. It was one fantastic book. I loved all the characters in the story. Red the main character is a really awesome heroine. She knows how to fight them zombies. She can shoot as well or maybe even better than any man can. She doesn't need any man protecting her butt she can kick zombie ass with the best of them.
Red likes to travel alone that she has no one to be responsible for if they get bitten by the zombies. Its hard enough trying to keep yourself alive much less a group of people. But the dude she calls Cowboy won't listen to her he follows her anyway. Cowboy thinks he knows her and has seen her before. Besides all that he is very attracted to Red. He likes the way she handles a gun and can kill a bunch of zombies quicker than most folks.
Cowboy and Red meets up with this new guy Wen and he becomes a part of their group. Later on down the road they meet two little kids, Rivers and Fisher, yeah that is their real names. See their father loved going fishing and that is how they got their names. Red wants to be alone because she has a secret that she doesn't want anyone to know about. Her secret could cost her her life or maybe even the life of one her new family members. People that is becoming to care about. So they all end up at an old army fort where they meet Caroline and her father Ira. Wen and Caroline become close real quick like.
WANTED: Dead or Undead kept me on the edge of my seat almost bouncing up and down with all the twist and turns that it has in it. The story builds up and up and up, your waiting for the climax and just when you are plummeting back down bam Angela Scott hits you in the face with another exciting twist that you never expected or saw coming. WANTED: Dead or Undead is one of those books that you won't want to put down. You just want to keep turning the pages without stopping. WOW after reading WANTED: Dead or Undead I don't know how Survivor Roundup could be any better but I do aim to find out.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
I hear voices. Tiny fictional people sit on my shoulders and whisper their stories in my ear. Instead of medicating myself, I decided to pick up a pen, write down everything those voices tell me, and turn it into a book. I'm not crazy. I'm an author. For the most part, I write contemporary Young Adult novels. However, through a writing exercise that spiraled out of control, I found myself writing about zombies terrorizing the Wild Wild West-and loving it. My zombies don't sparkle, and they definitely don't cuddle. At least, I wouldn't suggest it.
I live on the benches of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains with two lovely children, one teenager, and a very patient husband. I graduated from Utah State University with a B.A. degree in English, not because of my love for the written word, but because it was the only major that didn't require math. I can't spell, and grammar is my arch nemesis. But they gave me the degree, and there are no take backs.
As a child, I never sucked on a pacifier; I chewed on a pencil. I've been writing that long. It has only been the past few years that I've pursued it professionally, forged relationships with other like-minded individuals, and determined to make a career out of it.
You can find me at my website, where I blog obsessively about my writing process and post updates on my current works. I'm also on Twitter and Facebook, but be forewarned, I tweet and post more than a normal person.
