"Detective Lawrence gave me a pointed look that he didn’t buy that
cover story for a minute. Chad changed to accommodating at the mention of the
last minute wedding I was to ensure was perfection itself.
“Detective,
Julienne is busy. Perhaps I can be of assistance?”
“No,
I need to know why Julienne’s name was on a hotel card in the pocket of a man
who died of what I am guessing was poison just a few hours ago. Amazing
how you’re connected with another death.” His beady little eyes watched
me. Well, they were menacing beady eyes to me in any case.
I
could feel the blood drain to my toes. Not again."
