Fallon has received premonitions since she was a child—visions that have driven her to steer countless strangers and acquaintances from looming dangers. But these powers have come at a great cost. After enduring heart-wrenching losses during her teenage years, Fallon has lived a solitary life for over a decade, her only anchor being her childhood best friend.
That is, until a series of intense premonitions draws a group of new people into her life, people who start to feel like family. But something deeper is stirring. The raven tattoo on her wrist has begun to tingle, and a raven has started appearing in her visions. Worse still, Fallon is haunted by the memory of someone from her past, someone she loved, and she believes abandoned her—a person to whom the raven seems inexplicably tied.
As the visions grow more urgent, Fallon must decipher their meaning to protect those she cares about. But the question lingers: Is the raven a guide or a harbinger of doom?
In this gripping first installment of “The Lonely Raven Trilogy,” Fallon must face the shadows of her past to safeguard the future of those she loves—and discover whether the raven is an ally or a threat.
Interview with Erika Fair
What is your favorite part of the book?
My favorite parts of the book are definitely the multiple flashbacks because they paint a picture of the main character Fallon’s past with her brother when they were children. It’s fun to see those characters navigating life and it gives depth to everything going on in Fallon’s life now, including her losses and her history with magical abilities.
Does your book have a lesson? Moral?
Nothing I can pinpoint, but I think books touch everyone differently, and even a book that seems to have no message might reveal a message to one reader. It’s a different experience for everyone.
Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
I’m a lifetime observer of people, and many of the characters I write are combinations of either real or fictional people that I’ve absorbed over the years. While someone in my life might have inspired a character, when I’m writing and forming that character they become completely their own person, and the real person who may have inspired them fades away.
Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?
My favorite character is probably Fallon. I’ve written a lot of FMCs over the years, but she’s the one who really became the most real to me. Her mix of vulnerability and strength, her ability to just keep living despite the pain and sadness she’s faced, is something I admire in her.
What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?
I (and probably everyone) would say Jack, but that’s easy because he’s pretty much written as a jerk. Everyone has multiple facets and Jack is definitely not 100% bad. There’s a lot going on behind that smirk. But I for sure wouldn’t choose to hang out with him.
What would the main character in your book have to say about you?
That’s a tricky question, I really don’t know what Fallon would have to say. She might ask me for less tragedy and drama.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
This trilogy definitely needs each preceding book to be read first. I don’t spend a lot of time catching readers up to what happened in the first book, so book two will be off and running immediately. I do try to drop reminders of certain aspects, because I know it’s difficult to remember details. I just want to bring enjoyment.
