And here is an excerpt from Desert Fire

I don't want to tremble, don't want to be scared of whatever the hell is happening, but the perfume invading my nostrils, burning them, is far too familiar and it does make me tremble; it does make me scared as shit. I'm certain I will always be afraid of this woman. No matter how tough I think I am, I will always shudder in fear when she's around.

She broke me.

"Put the gun down, Kadence," Scarlet drawls, pushing the barrel harder into my temple, making me whimper, dammit. My still-bruised face tingles as if it remembers the sound of her voice.

I'm tough, I'm tough.

She won't kill me.

Wanna bet?

Shut up brain, just SHUT UP!

Kay stands firm, not giving in, but inching closer to us. "Let her go," she bites out, totally keeping cool. How the hell does she do that?

I'm so weak, so ashamed. My legs almost give out from fear. I may piss myself. How freaking humiliating.

My Review
I received a free copy of the book from the author for my honest opinion.
Payton and her sisters Kay and Reiley were adopted by a couple that trained them their whole lives to be killers. Payton was good at what she was taught to do and was told that they were only killing the bad guys. By killing these bad guys they were saving a lot of very good people. But Payton's heart just wasn't in it. She felt bad, guilty when she took the life of another human life. She felt that it was wrong even though her parents raised her to believe that it was ok and it was for the good of the people. Payton's heart finally got so heavy with the guilt from killing all those people that she couldn't do it again. She stood up to her parents and told them she had; had enough of the killing and that she wasn't going to do it anymore. When she did this it put her and her families’ lives in danger. Payton and her family had to go into hiding to stay alive. With the help of her boyfriend Conner she came up with a plan that would hopefully keep her family alive. Payton also found out that her parents knew more about her than they ever told her even though they had always told her she was adopted. Payton wanted to know all the secrets that they had been keeping from her. What were these secrets that her parents had been keeping from her? Why did she want to know these secrets so bad? Why were they so important to her? Want to know the answers to these questions? Well then pick up your copy of Desert Fire today to find out. I really loved most of the characters in Desert Fire but there were a few that I just couldn't decide if I liked them or not. One moment I thought Payton could trust them and then the next I was like no Payton don't listen to them. Payton was one tough chica who would do whatever it took to keep the people she loved safe no matter what it cost her. I thought Payton and Conner went good together. They made the perfect couple and they both loved each other more than their own selves. The problem was did Payton and Conner know this? I have thoroughly loved reading Desert Fire and I also loved the first book Gravel Ghost in the Valley of Death Series. I can't wait to read more of Payton, Conner, Kay, Reiley, Cadmar and all of the rest of the characters stories in the next book in the Valley of Death Series.
