Every Emily Stone Thriller is a stand-along novel.

From the multi-award winning series:

What happens when one California community has a disturbing spike in homicides? It catapults cops into a deadly game of murder. Frozen human body parts hideously displayed at the crime scenes offers a horrifying interpretation that only a sadistic serial killer could design—and execute.

On the hunt for a complex serial killer, vigilante detective Emily Stone must face her most daring case yet. Stone’s proven top-notch profiling skills and forensic expertise may not be enough this time.

Young and ambitious, Detective Danny Starr, catches the homicide cases and discovers that it will test everything he knows about police work and the criminal mind. Can he handle these escalating cases or will the police department have to call in reinforcements—the FBI.

Emily Stone’s covert team pushes with extreme urgency to unravel the grisly clues, while keeping their identities hidden from the police. With one last-ditch effort, Stone dangles someone she loves as bait to draw out the killer. She then forces the killer out of their comfort zone with her partner Rick Lopez, and with help from a longtime friend Jordan Smith. A revelation of the serial killer’s identity leaves the team with volatile emotions that could destroy them.

The killer continues to taunt and expertly manipulate the police, as well as Stone’s team, and as they run out of time—they leave behind everyone and everything—in Dead Cold.

Interview with Jennifer Chase

What inspired you to write Dead Cold?
With every book in the Emily Stone Thriller Series, I try to challenge myself as a crime fiction author and criminologist to create an unusual serial killer. I find inspiration from local and national crime stories as well as the hundreds of homicide cases I’ve studied. It was a bit unusual when and how I created the Emily Stone character. The inspiration came from my own experience with a violent sociopath.
Can you tell us a little bit about the next books in Emily Stone Series or what you have planned for the future?

Dead Cold is the sixth book in the series. I have plans for several more. These particular cases will definitely challenge Emily and she considers quitting forever. Will she walk away? You’ll just have to find out in the next book, Dark Lies, coming out fall early 2018.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Dead Cold?

The main character Emily Stone is a tough and unrelenting vigilante detective that will stop at nothing to save a child or prevent another killing. She’s perceptive, brave, and has the background of a police officer, SWAT, and criminal profiler. Her partner and lover, Rick Lopez, was a detective she had met during one of her pursuits. The two were destined to be together. Against Emily’s best judgment, Rick joined her and the covert pursuits. Both of them work together to catch serial killers; it’s never easy and extremely dangerous for both of them. They share a unique and forever bond.

As with any case, the team met and worked with an undercover FBI profiler on a case named Jordan Smith. Annoying but brilliant, he sometimes helps the crime solving couple adding some sarcasm and humor to every investigation.
In Dead Cold, as frozen body parts pile up, Detective Daniel Starr is assigned the case. He was the first deputy to be promoted to detective before his thirtieth birthday. Is this case too much for the rookie detective?

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
I love to read, and honestly, there are so many wonderful authors I enjoy. But, the one author that seems to rise to the top of my list is Jeffrey Deaver. I love his Lincoln Rhyme Series. I had the chance to meet and talk with him in 2014 at Bouchercon in Long Beach, California, which was so exciting for me.

If you could time-travel would you travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you like to visit this particular time period?
Definitely the past. California and Arizona during the era of 1860s interests me. I would like to write a thriller based on the outlaws of the West.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
Yes, I have all rescues with one German shepherd dog and two cats. One of my cats is a Ragdoll and is the mellowest and funny feline I’ve ever known. Ragdolls have been called “puppy cats” because they follow you around like a dog. All my fuzzy friends are nearby when I write—usually one a lot closer than the others.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us today.

Thank you so much for the opportunity.
