What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Temptation Trials
Bloopers
Temptation Trials is
an adult, dystopian, romance, and urban fantasy. The story focuses around a
corrupt government that now controls the most powerful emotion of love.
The protagonists face tribulations, and they
desperately want to fight for their relationships. With arranged marriages at
the age of twenty-one, the only way to prove their love is through the
Temptation Trials—a reality TV show.
Due to the theme, there is much
heartache and a ton of drama. In order to balance it, I did try to add humor
within the story.
The Temptation Trials application is
an element that I really enjoyed writing. I formatted an application within the
book, so the readers could feel like they’re actually reading along with the
heroine, instead of her just telling them about it. The application has the
character’s name, age, height, etc. It includes personal likes, such as their favorite food and color.
But also, obscene questions sponsored by the government.
Some examples are: What sin do you
think is worse, killing or adultery?
Do you think intercourse before marriage is
a sin?
Those are some of the milder
questions. It was interesting to think about my characters personality and
correspond it with how she should respond.
During the Trials on the island, I decided
to use outrageous names for the enforcement officers.
Example: Enforcer Ménage & Frisky.
The plot also revolves around love and lust. So I
thought it would be a comical touch to name the dating destination sites
lustful, risqué names.
Example: Bass of Delight and Ultimate Peak
of Climax Isle.
Introduced during the Trials is the host of the
show, Zimmerman. He’s a lively character who loves drama, and I feel added a
bit of humor to the Trials. Zimmerman’s specialty is gossip. He liked to
embarrass the contestants by putting them on the spot. With Zimmerman there is
no subject too taboo or question that he’s ashamed to ask the contestants—all
the while everything is being recorded for the entire nation to view.
The novel required a lot of research,
especially for part 2. I liked corresponding the research by also putting my
own spin on it—adding fiction to nonfiction.
Temptation Trials is a unique blend of
dystopian, romance that I think readers who like either genre would enjoy.
