Edges
by Kenzie

GENRE: Contemporary
Romance
BLURB:
Leigha
Luccenzo is a strong, confident woman who has her life perfectly under control.
But her nightmares have returned after a long absence. They are kept hidden
from everyone. She comes home to find her apartment in shambles, the possible
doing of her ex-lover Sydney. Layers of lies start to peel away. Her world
begins to shift and unravel.
Dean is a hard edge
man who has an appetite for beautiful women, fast bikes, and shattered souls.
His secrets bind him, keeping him from any real relationship. They latch onto
him from his past like locked chains. He sees behind Leigha’s armor. Convincing
her he can help becomes his mission. He hopes she’s strong enough to handle
what lies beneath, unlocking his guilt.
Through events out of
her control, Leigha’s forced to face her demons.
As other people’s
secrets get entangled in her own, she struggles to get to the meaning of her
nightmare. Can Dean help her uncover her truth?
Excerpt:
He put his hands down slowly, saying
Leigha was out of her element. This isn’t what she could deal with right now.
“I think we need to slow down.
There’s a lot going on.” The crack in her voice exposed her nerves. Her fingers
twisted together.
He pushed his chair back and walked
toward her in nothing but jeans and bare feet. He scooted her back from the
table and knelt in front of her. He pushed her robe to the side, exposing her
long legs. She leaned back and gripped the arms of the chair.
“I’ve lost too much and I’m not
willing to lose any more. Life burned a hole in me and you filled it. You
understand and listen to me without judgment. We have something I’m holding on
to. I’ve never felt this way. Not even…” He swallowed his words, bowing his
head. His fingers gripped onto her thighs.
She sat there stick-straight like a
cornered animal with nowhere to go. His words struck her. She tried to hold
onto her little bit of control. The only words missing from his speech were ‘I
love you.’ She was thankful they weren’t said. She would be the one to decide
what they became, but she couldn’t deny the hold he had on her.
His head came up as his eyes locked
onto her. “I know you’re scared. I can see it in your eyes. I’ll give you time.
Just meet me halfway.”
He got up and held out his hand.
Without a word, she took his strong hand as the tether strengthened.
Interview
with Kenzie Macallan
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Edges?
Leigha is a
strong, confident woman who thinks she has it all figured out and under
control. She hides her nightmares from those closest to her even as the nightmares
eat away at her. Through a series of events out of her control, she begins to
unravel. She realizes there is very little in life that we actually have
control over. As she gets tangled in her own web, Dean appears, wanting to help
her untangle and get to the bottom of her nightmares. She learns she might be
able to rely on others instead of always being the pillar of strength for
everyone else.
Dean is a strong
and talented yet kind man. He sees Leigha through all her armor. He forces her
to confront her nightmares and control issues. But her secrets and actions trigger
guilt from his past he can’t seem to shake and has never shared with anyone. He
has secrets of his own and he needs to come clean before it buries him.
Together they
peel away the layers to find each other under the secrets, lies, and illusions.
Trust and risk become the keys to unlocking what they can have together.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have
planned for the future?
The next and
last book in this series focuses on Raquelle, the youngest sister. She’s a
seductress, self-centered but very emotional.
She meets her match with an interesting family twist. The suspense continues and concludes in this book. The readers get answers to all the questions about their father’s cryptic message, the Russians, and more family secrets.

My future plans
include continuing to write. Why give up the addiction now? I have a
stand-alone contemporary romance that’s been tapping me on the shoulder. After
that, I would like to write three books about Beck McKenzie, Peter Bryan, and
Sean Knight. They are the three founders of MBK Global Security. Mac, from
Truths, left MI6 to work for them. They each have very intriguing stories.
How
long would you say it takes you to write a book?
It takes me
about a year to write a book. Unfortunately, I can’t write full-time. It would
be my dream to be able to make it a full-time job. My day job takes lot of my
time. The other reason it takes to long is I’m a little bit of a perfectionist.
The editing process takes a while and I feel it’s so crucial. I hope as time
goes on, I become a faster writer and editor. My other problem, I really enjoy
the process. My book goes through anywhere from six to seven edits.
What
is your favorite childhood book?
I love Janet Taylor Lisle’s book Afternoon of Elves. It’s not so much
from my childhood as much as it’s a great book for children grade three and up.
Here’s a brief description.
No fourth grader trusts Sara-Kate
Connolly. Her boots are dirty, her clothes are weird, and she’s so maladjusted
that the school had to hold her back a grade. But Hillary is her next-door
neighbor, and can’t say no when the unusual loner invites her over to play. In
Sara-Kate’s overgrown backyard, Hillary will find proof of a world of magic—the
kind that can only blossom between true friends.
Among the rusted car parts and wild
plants, a miniature village has sprung up. It has tiny houses made from string,
sticks, and maple leaves; a well with a bottle cap for a bucket; and even a
little playground with a Popsicle-stick Ferris wheel. But there’s absolutely no
sign of who built this miniature world. To Sara-Kate, the answer is clear—only
elves could be responsible for something so enchanted. As she and Hillary watch
for their elusive new friends, they learn that friendship, like magic, springs
up where you least expect it.
I love the
imagination in this book as well as the message. In an age where bullying is so
prevalent, this book is ageless and timeless. It gets to the heart of
acceptance and the bridge of imagination.
If
you could spend the day with one of the characters from Truths who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this
particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
I have a very
artistic side to me. I take photos of flowers, paint portraits in oil of mostly
children, and now I write. One thing I have not been able to take time to learn
is sculpture. I would spend the day with Marabella. We would go to her studio.
I would learn how to take a piece of clay and turn it into a 3-D image using my
hands. I’m sure I would do horribly at first. But I have this thing called
perseverance. I love a good challenge.
What
was the hardest scene from Edges to
write?
There’s a scene
where Leigha must confront her mother about a lie she has discovered and not
from her mother. I don’t want to give away the surprise by telling the readers about
the lie. What’s poignant in this scene is when a child must confront their
parent about something that affects both of their lives and the family dynamic.
Most people have such interesting views about their parents, as if they can do
no wrong. When we discover the truth, it changes our thinking about who they
are and who we are as humans who are not perfect. Leigha realizes she has a lot
more in common with her mother than she thought. She also has a better
understanding of her father and why he acted the way he did toward her.
What
made you want to become a writer?
I traveled a lot when I was younger and had
all these stories in my head. I finally got to a point where they needed to
come out and be put into words. The characters wanted to be heard. They had
issues that needed to be resolved and truths that needed to come out. So I
finally sat down to write them. Once you open Pandora’s box, the floodgates
never shut. I have many stories that keep coming to me. I haven’t looked back
and I love it.
