How hard could that be, right?

Interview with Seven Steps & Audrey Rich
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Golden Boy?
Meg is the main character. She is a feisty, headstrong girl who has to make some hard decisions after life throws her a curveball. She struggles in the beginning, but as the book goes on, she faces those struggles and comes out a better person.
Julius is a star quarterback who is also faced with a tough decision. Instead of running away, he works to conquer the difficulty. He is kind and generous and easy to fall in love with.
The Golden Boy is based on the story of Hercules.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
Audrey Rich: I’m working on adding the guy’s voice to my short story, Where’s There’s Smoke There’s Fire, as well as Denying Our Love, which will be the fourth book of A Stonehaven High Series. Both are set in the sunny beaches of Florida.
Seven Steps: I am currently working on The Secret Lives of Princesses, a contemporary retelling of Aladdin, but told from Jasmine’s point of view. I’m also working on Kissing Frogs, a contemporary retelling of The Princess and the Frog.
How long would you say it takes you to write a book?
Audrey Rich: A full length novel, over 200 pages, can take me a month to write but two months to edit before it can go to the beta readers. A short story can take about three weeks and a week to edit.
Seven Steps: The first draft takes me about 30 days if I’m focused. The second and third draft take another thirty days. However, most times I lose focus and have to start re-writing the book from the beginning, so about three months.
What is your favorite childhood book?
Audrey Rich: There are so many but I loved “Beauty and the Beast” as well as “The Wizard of Oz,” which was the first book I stayed up all night reading when I was seven years old.
Seven Steps: Alice in Wonderland.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from The Golden Boy who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
Audrey Rich: Hands down it would be Julius Samson because he’s such a great guy. I know he would a real gentleman, while he showed me New York City on foot and took me to all the best food places.
Seven Steps: If I could spend one day with one of the characters from the story, it would be Meg. She’s funny and loves movies. We’d probably hang out at the movies, drink coffee, and people watch all day. Maybe take in a play or go to an art show. She’s into a lot of artsy stuff that I like, so we’d have a good time.
What was the hardest scene from The Golden Boy to write?
Audrey Rich: The hardest scene was when she comes home to an empty house, realizes that her mom is undergoing another chemotherapy treatment, and makes chicken soup so her mom can eat. I did that for my own mom, when she battled breast cancer and I remembered how I tried everything to find her something she could eat when she would lose her appetite because of a treatment.
Seven Steps: The scene where Meg confesses what she’s done to Julius’ mother. It was a very emotional scene that I wanted to get just right.
What made you want to become a writer?
Audrey Rich: It was an answer to a prayer. I’ve always loved to read, in high school I would read two books a day, but I never thought I would write. That is until one night when I was too wired to sleep, I opened up Word and this story just flowed from my fingertips. I stayed up all night writing. Three months later I had Masquerading Our Love along with the desire to write.
Seven Steps: I love telling stories and I loved to read. Being a writer just came naturally.

Seven Steps –
"Let me be that I am and seek not to alter me."
--William Shakespeare, Much Ado About Nothing.
I have been writing for as long as I can remember. One of my mentors (you know who you are) often reminds me of my first foray into the world of literary fiction. It was a lively story about a bee's journey to find a pot of missing honey. He says that I have improved since then. I think that he's right.
I am a working wife and mother, as well as a devoted owner of a beautiful cat named Rosie. I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, thrifting, and anything that reminds me of my childhood.
My favorite genres are Sweet Romance, Science Fiction, Dystopian and Historical.
