In our future, robots known as Tins keep us protected from the floods, fires and diseases of the outside in what are called Compounds. But when the Tins become more our masters than protectors, humans rebel. Lexi019 is turning eighteen, and will then be sent into what Tins call the Electric Gardens. Since no one ever returns from the Electric Gardens, Lexi019 is desperate to escape. With her best friend Kyle53 and his sister, the three of them find an unlikely friendship that helps them escape. But not everything is what it seems in this Robotic Dystopia, and soon Lexi019 will be faced with hard decisions she never anticipated. Interview with M. Black
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in ELECTRIC GARDENS?
Lexi019, Kyle53 and his sister Klynn03 have been inside the Compound guarded by Tins for twelve years. Klynn03 has been Meshed for glitching and this has made Kyle53 reckless, getting himself locked up in the cells. Lexi019 is busy figuring out a way out of the Compounds.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
Electric Grids, Electric Wars, and Electric Ends are what I am writing now. This is a four book series about a future where robots called Tins rule the world and anyone under eighteen lives in Compounds. No one knows where everyone else is.
How long would you say it takes you to write a book?
A month, and then 1-2 months for edits.
What is your favorite childhood book?
Gosh, I love Peter Rabbit.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from ELECTRIC GARDENS who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
Lexi019, because I love her kick-butt attitude and never-give-up spirit. I would go Venting with her. She loves to explore the vents when the Tins aren’t looking to find a way out of the Compound. Looks like fun tunnels to explore.
What was the hardest scene from ELECTRIC GARDENS to write?
Good question. I would have to say it was when Lexi019 was choking Lucy717, her friend, in order to survive. It was hard because I wanted to get the mixed emotions Lexi019 was feeling but at the same time describe a fight scene, but not over do it.
What made you want to become a writer?
I’ve always loved storytelling and told stories verbally long before I knew how to write.
