Virtual Book Tour + #Giveaway: The Killed Conscience by Jordan Antonacci @misterhushhush @RABTBookTours
Mystery
Date Published: 6-22-2018
Still at the beginning of her career, investigative journalist Emilee Weathers is desperate for the perfect story and doesn’t care how she has to get it. When she’s asked to assist in a convicted serial killer’s appeal, it almost seems the perfect story has come banging at her door.
But not long after arriving to the mountain town of Pigeon Forge, Emilee discovers the body of another, more recent victim. With the body showing signatures of the already-convicted murderer, Emilee sets out to discover if she’s happened upon the work of a copycat, or if the real killer was ever even caught. The more she looks though, the murkier everything becomes. Police begin withholding information and the killer seems capable of going any length to protect his identity. On top of it all, when her investigations uncover the buried secrets of those closest to her, Emilee questions who it is she can and can’t trust in those mountains, if anyone at all.
Interview with Jordan Antonacci
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Killed
Conscience?
Sure!
Emilee is the main character. She’s
an amateur investigative journalist, fresh out of college. An incident in her
past lead to a falling out with her father, which causes her to yearn for “the
perfect story” so that she may prove herself to her father and mend the
relationship.
James Croker is Emilee’s jobless,
controlling, live-in boyfriend. Her relationship with him is toxic to say the
least.
Detective Nichols is a seasoned detective
at the Knoxville Police Department who’s been involved with and haunted by the
VDK case from the get-go. When a body is found mirroring previous VDK victims,
Nichols plays fast and loose with the law as he pursues the killer.
Then there’s Casey Miller and
Sebastian Keller. Emilee, Casey, and Sebastian were best friends back in
elementary school before Emilee moved to Texas. Casey is the sarcastic guy whose
interest in alcohol borders on alcoholism, and Sebastian is the guy who can’t
seem to keep his feelings for Emilee on a leash even though he’s already in a
relationship.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have
planned for the future?
I have several ideas for fiction
novels unrelated to The Killed Conscience. As of right now, I’d say each of
them are thrillers but I don’t really like putting my writing in a box.
But if the Killed Conscience does
okay, I have big plans to continue the story. I already have a sequel as well
as a prequel that I’ve started, so hopefully I get to continue those. I’d like
to give specifics, but it’s hard without spoiling this first book. In the
sequel, Emilee will still be continuing her pursuit for the perfect story while
trying to cope with everything that happened in the The Killed Conscience. In
the prequel, I’d like to focus more on VDK and how he came to be.
How
long would you say it takes you to write a book?
Not all that long. I’ve gotten quicker with
each one. I’ve been blessed with a really awesome job that requires a lot of
work during summer and practically none during the winter, so that gives me a
lot of time to write. I started The Killed Conscience during November and
finished it late March. I’d say 5-6 months is more than enough.
What
is your favorite childhood book?
I was always in love with The Magical
Treehouse series. My second-grade teacher would read bits to the class after
lunch, then I went and read them myself. Even today I still love going over
them.
Also, when I was 8, I had a mild obsession
with Bad Dreams by R.L. Stine.
If you could spend the day with one of the
characters from The Killed Conscience who would it be? Please tell us why you
chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
The Valentines Day Killer! VDK all day! Ha-ha.
The real question is, where wouldn’t we go? We’d hit up the mall, get some ice
cream, go see a movie (chick flick), go to 6 flags… I’ve always had an interest
with serial killers, so I’d really like to dissect his thoughts. You’re
probably like What’s wrong with this guy?
But I know VDK better than you guys; trust me, we’re cool.
What
was the hardest scene from The Killed Conscience to write?
It’s so weird. I honestly think the hardest
was the most simple. It’s just like, how do I make this casual, simple scene
interesting and with depth? I think the hardest may have been Emilee’s
interview with VDK suspect, Patrick Liftmen. I wanted to make him seem
monstrous yet human and I needed Emilee to be terrified yet composed. I think
both characters did okay.
What
made you want to become a writer?
Ha-ha, so, I’ve always loved all forms of
art. When I was 13, I made a bucket list and put down, write a music album,
learn to draw, write a book… Then I wrote a book, fell in love with the craft,
and couldn’t stop writing.
