God Wants to Be Found! In 'Those Who Seek God', little readers will enjoy a sweet story about young animals wanting to learn more about God. Through Bible verses and conversations with loved ones, these characters discover that seeking God is simple. He wants to be found! Curious littles and big kiddos too, snuggle in close as you listen to how the swan, otter, kitten, caterpillar, and others learn more about God and what it means to seek Him.

Interview with Author Niki Milburn

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

This is such a fun question! If I had to pick one animal that reminds me of my spirit animal, it would be an English Bulldog! They love to relax and be with family. They have short bursts of energy and a big heart. I think we are a lot alike!

How many hours a day do you put into your writing?

I do not have a set amount of time a day I write. I actually spend many hours in my head thinking, planning, developing story lines and character traits. I do this before I put anything to paper.

Do you read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the future?

I do read the reviews left for me on Amazon. It is my sincere hope that everyone likes “Those Who Seek God,” but I also know that I will never please everyone and that pleasing everyone isn’t my job! My job is to put good books with a good message into the world, and that is what I focus on more than reviews.

Do you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?

I just love a good hidden (or not so hidden) message in children’s books! In “Those Who Seek God,” I have a feather incorporated into each illustration for children to find. Feathers became important to me after my brother died 4 years ago. Feathers showed up in the most needed times, in the most random places. I felt like they were a sign from my brother and God that he was okay, happy, and in Heaven!

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Those Who Seek God?

The characters in “Those Who Seek God” are all young animals with a family member or mentor. They discuss God and what it means to seek Him. Each animal chosen relates to a specific Bible verse. For example, Psalm 91:4 (“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge”) is a swan and a baby duck. For Psalm 61:2 (“From the end of the earth I call to you, lead me to the rock that is higher than I”), I chose a mountain goat! It makes the verses easier for kids to relate to and remember!

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?

My next book with be the start of a series. I plan to write a book about each character pair in “Those Who Seek God.” So, Book 2 will be about my first characters, Swan and Baby Duck. I chose to honor families who were brought together by adoption or foster care. This book will be the entire backstory for how Swan and Baby Duck became a family!

Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you write as long as the words come?

To answer questions 7 and 8, the short answer is no. I am very much a creative spirit and try to allow myself to be creative when I feel like it. Setting a timer or something of the sort would make me crazy!

What inspires you to write?

Without a doubt, God and my children are the reason I write. I hope to leave a legacy that encourages them to love God and follow their dreams!
