Dad presses his index finger to his
chapped lips. He doesn’t speak a single word. His eyes narrow and fix on me,
and a look of concern floods his face. He leans in closer to whisper in my ear.
“Don’t move or make any sounds
what-so-ever.” He grabs my chin, and turns it to the right. A figure looms in
the shadows of the brush. He doesn’t appear to be a hunter or hiker. There’s no
visible weapon or backpack that can be seen.
He stays low, crouched within the
thicket of foliage. He slowly advances forward, taking great care to not alert
the injured deer to his presence. His precise movement’s mimic that of a cougar
watching its prey. Dissecting and plotting his point of attack from his
concealment.
After a few
moments, he sprints out of the darkness, and stumbles into the little bit of
light that remains.
James and his Dad go on a weekend hunting trip up in the mountains.
James’s Dad has been taking him on these trips for a long time. His Dad likes
teaching him how to live off the land in case of an apocalypse.
After setting up their campsite for the weekend they head
out to do a little hunting and run into a few chasers. James and his Dad decide
it is time to go home but his Dad doesn’t make it leaving James to go it alone
in world that has been overrun with the undead.
James needs to make it home to find his mother and little
sister to make sure they are safe. After reaching home he finds that his mother
and sister are nowhere to be found. He finds a note from his mother as to their
destination.
James meets up with his best friend and they both set out to
find their families. They have a long journey ahead of them with fighting and
running away from chasers and humans a like. These zombies or chasers are fast
and very strong; they are unlike any zombies I have read before. James just can’t
seem to catch a break.
He does have a little bit of a head start on the undead
though with his trust worthy dog, Duke by his side. Duke stays right by James’
side keeping him safe from humans and the undead both. Duke is very loyal to
his friend James and will tear anyone dead or alive up if they mess with his
friend James.
Will James find his mother and sister? Where are his mother
and sister? Will he make it to safety? Can a fifteen year old make it alone in
a world gone mad?
Dead State: Fallout has plenty of action from the first page
that drew me in and kept me hooked right up until the end. Once I picked it up
I couldn’t put it down. I love me some zombies. I fell in love with all the
characters well with the exception of the bad guys that is but hey if I saw
Dead State: Fallout as a movie I would have to say that the bad guys played
their part well. The zombies/chasers were all fantastic as well. I just love
the world that was created for Dead State: Fallout and can’t wait to find out
what happens next in book two.
Dead State: Fallout is one book that I would love to see on
the big screen. When I was reading Dead State: Fallout it would remind me of
The Walking Dead and Z Nation. I could see it playing out in my head like a
movie it was so vividly written. Dead State: Fallout is a must read! Pick up
your copy today to begin the adventure of fighting some zombies.
