What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?

Ha! Prior to writing, very little. Typically, the story flows in chunks and conversations, and it’s not until I’m trying to tie scenes in and flesh characters that the research begins. Writing Anticipation, I learned a lot about the Savannah Georgia area (and it’s now on my list of destinations to visit) and the Philippines. I had to research what young adults do in their spare time now. It’s been a while since I was that age, and cell phones didn’t exist then. It was a whole new experience for me.
