Propelled by a wave of atrocities, the government introduces
a severe code of capital punishment. They designed The Rules to rid England of
serious crime, but they failed. They said The Rules were infallible, but they
lied.
Christian Ledger, an innocent man and a talented artist is
charged with a fatal stabbing. Christian is heading for the ͚slaughterhouse͛
because no one will listen to his pleas. Is the secret he carries enough to
save his life?
CSI Eddie Collins, a reluctant hero with one failed suicide
attempt behind him, suddenly wants to live when the police hunt him down for
shooting a colleague. And now he͛s on the government͛s list too, and he͛s
running. But they͛'re getting closer by the minute...
My Review:
One of the reasons I like books of this nature/genre is that
it has so many characters and getting a point of view from each. I like getting
to know each character like what kind of person they are and learning a little
bit about their lives and what makes them tick and getting enough of their
background that it will give you an insight into what makes them do the things
they do and what makes them the person they are now.
You get a little info from one character just enough to keep
you hanging on and then it is on to the next character. While I am reading
about one character I have another character’s info hanging out in the back of
mind and I am pondering over his/her info while learning more about another
character. I am trying to figure out how all these characters lives are going
to connect and intertwined.
In The Third Rule the laws have changed. It is everyone’s
hope that the new laws will stop some of the crimes. Our main guy Eddie
Collins, CSI is separated from his wife she kicked him out because of his
drinking. His days are all basically the same. He gets up goes to work does his
job then comes home and has himself a few drinks then gets up and does it all
over the next day.
When he loses his son in a tragic accident he turns the
drinking up a notch or two. All Eddie is concerned with now is finding the person
who took his son’s life and to get the justice he believes his son deserves. During
his investigation Eddie finds corruption and a lot of cover ups and if he is
not careful he may just find himself facing The Third Rule.
The Third Rule is a very intriguing and suspenseful read
that caught my attention from the first page and didn’t let go until I had read
the last page and even now it still has me in its clutches. It pulls you in and
makes you feel as if the characters are real and their lives as well and has
you rooting for them over and over. Even the bad characters play their roles
well. This is one story I would love to see made into a movie or maybe even a
TV series.
The Third Rule is for anyone who likes a good mystery or
thriller. Pick up your copy today!

A thrilling novella introducing Eddie Collins, CSI
Have you ever had that feeling of being watched but when you
turn around no ones there?
I have.
It was raining, and I was working a murder scene around
midnight when that prickle ran up my spine. If I’d listened to that feeling, if
I’d thought back to my past, maybe I could have prevented the terror that was
to come.
Back at the office, I found a death threat on my desk.
I had no idea who sent it or why they wanted to kill me.
But I was about to find out.
I’m Eddie Collins, a CSI, and this is my story.
Andrew Barrett is the
best-selling author of The End of Lies. This novella serves as a thrilling
introduction to his Eddie Collins Series. It will appeal to fans of authors
like Ian Rankin, Robert Bryndza and Kathy Reichs.
My Review:
The Note opens with Eddie Collins at a crime scene doing his
thing as he is a CSI. Eddie has an argument with a couple of the Coppers at the
scene. Eddie likes to do the things by the book and apparently these Coppers
not so much. Another thing they were being bossy with Eddie which is another
thing he doesn’t take too kindly either.
Eddie ends up doing his thing and Coppers do theirs and when
he is through with his crime scene he heads back to the office to wrap things
up so he can head home. Well back at the office he finds a note at his desk
that leaves him a little bit disturbed. Finally Eddie heads home which is a
short trip but after finding that note it turns into a very long trip for him.
Trying to figure out who left the note and why.
With his mind filled with nothing but the note it doesn’t
hit Eddie until he is just about to turn into his drive way that it could be
the worst mistake of his life as he lives in a remote area and it is very dark.
If the person who left the note was serious with the threat in the note then he
has probably just stepped right into their hands.
The Note is a great little introduction into the life of
CSI, Eddie Collins. It lets us in on what kind of person Eddie is and the kind
of investigator he happens to be and how he likes to investigate his crime
scenes. It also gives us a little bit of insight into how he may handle certain
situations.
The Note is filled with lots of suspense and mystery around
every corner. It keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure everything
out. But needless to say The Note has its secrets that keeps you guessing and
doesn’t let go of them until the very end.
If you like mystery and suspense then you are going to love
The Note.
